Electromagnet

Frae Wikipedia, the free beuk o knawledge
A simple electromagnet conseestin o a coil o insulatit wire wrapped aroond an airn core. A core o ferromagnetic material lik airn serves tae increase the magnetic field creatit.[1] The strenth o magnetic field generatit is proportional tae the amoont o current throu the windin.[1]

An electromagnet is a teep o magnet in which the magnetic field is produced bi an electric current. The magnetic field disappears when the current is turned off. Electromagnets uisually conseest of a lairge nummer o closely spaced turns o wire that create the magnetic field. The wire turns are eften woond aroond a magnetic core made frae a ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic material such as airn; the magnetic core concentrates the magnetic flux an maks a mair pouerfu magnet.
