A demonym (/ˈdɛmənɪm/; frae Auncient Greek δῆμος, dêmos, "people, clan" and ὄνυμα, ónuma, "name") an bytimes referred tae as a gentilic, is a name for a resident o a locality an is uisually, tho nae always, derived frae the name o a locality.[1][2] For ensaumple, the demonym for the fowk o Breetain is Breetish; the demonym for the fowk o Canadae is Canadian; the demonym for the fowk o Norawa is Norse; whilk the maist common Inglis leid demonym for the fowk o the Netherlands is Dutch.
