Observation on the birds of the Padma river charland, from Godagari to Charghat Upazilla including Rajshahi City Corporation area, was started in 2008 and the study is still going on. The study area is approximately 60 kilometers. Total 141 species of birds have recorded till now, of which 45 species are waterbirds. Among the waterbirds 60.00% are migratory and 40.00% are residents of Bangladesh. These waterbirds belong to the families Scolopacidae (16, 35.56%), Ardeidae (7, 15.56%), Anatidae and Charadridae (6, 13.33%), Phalacrocoracidae (3, 6.67%), Podicipedae (2, 4.44%), Rallidae, Ciconiidae, Laridae and Glareolidae (1, 2.22%). Two ‘Nearly Threatened’ species of waterbirds have recorded during the study period.

With a view to gather information on the diversity, habitat, distribution and residential status of avifauna of Joypurhat District under Rajshahi Division, a systematic field study was conducted for a period of eight months from April to November 2010. The study area was divided into the following five Upazila sites viz. Site A Joypurhat Sadar; Site B Khetlal; Site C Panchbibi; Site D Akkelpur and Site E Kalai. A total of 57 species, belonging to 8 orders, 28 families and 48 genera, were recorded. Of 57 species, 47.37% were non-passerines and 52.63% passerines; 89.43% were resident and 11.57% migratory. The status of the birds ranged from 14.04% for fairly common to 45.61% for rare species. The diversity of the bird species ranged from 25 (47.37%) for site D to 39 (68.42%) for site A. The result of bird watching at Rajshahi University (RU) campus during a period from March 2008 to July 2012 is presented in this article. A total of 159 species of birds under 102 genera, 36 families and 13 orders were observed. Highest number of species (76) and genera (41) are passerines, of which the highest number of species belongs to Corvidae family. Among the non-passerines (83 species) maximum number of species is under the family Ardeidae. Three species remained unidentified. Among the birds of RU campus 121 species are residents of Bangladesh; 38 species are migratory, of which 29 are winter visitors, 2 are summer visitors and 7 are passage migrants.
