How are Repak Member's fees spent?

Household Recycling

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 54c is spent on household recycling.

Commercial Recycling

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 16c is spent on commerical recycling.

Operating Costs

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 14c is spent on operating costs.

Rebate

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 3c is spent on our Member fee rebate.

Reprocessing

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 4c is spent on reprocessing.

Education & Communication

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 3c is spent on education and communication.

Recovery (waste to energy)

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 3c is spent on recovery (waste to energy).

SUP Litter Contribution

Repak Members paid €41.5 million in fees in 2023 to directly fund household recycling bins, bottle banks, recycling centres and commercial waste packaging nationwide. For every €1 of Members fees received, 3c is spent on a contribution to single use plastic litter.

Regular Membership

These are large companies, such as manufacturers, importers, brandholders, distributors and large retailers, who pay annual fees aligned to the volume of packaging they place on the Irish market.

Scheduled Membership

These are small to medium sized business, such as retailers, hotels, pharmacies, pubs and restaurants, who pay a fixed annual fee to fund recycling in Ireland.

  • Lidl moved from a hinged, rigid plastic lid to a lighter film on their pasta pots
  • This reduced the weight of the packaging and saved 16.5 tonnes of plastic

  • As part of objective 2 of the Plastic Pledge The Culinary Food Group are innovative 
  • In 2023 they diverted 6 tonnes of plastic box liners from waste to recycling
  • This supports the delivery our plastic recycling targets

Aldi Ireland

Aldi Ireland are proud signatories of the Plastic Pledge

  • As part of objective 3 of the Plastic Pledge Aldi Ireland reduce packaging complexity
  • Aldi are the first major retailer to introduce a fully recyclable handwash pump
  • They removed glass and metal components from the pump making it fully recyclabe 
  • Saving 30 tonnes of packaging per year

  • As part of objective 4 of the Plastic Pledge Nestle are driving a market for recycled plastic
  • In 2023 Nestle redesigned their two finger KitKat wrapper 
  • The redesign incorporated 80% recycled plastic
