ahhhh shale thank you so much!! i use this style of typography quite often actually, it’s one of my faves. here are the steps i’ve done to get this text effect (from this gifset):
first things first, i just typed out my text in a gray color, and set the blending mode to difference (exclusion could also work). i usually use white or gray text for this effect, but sometimes it also looks great if you use a color present in the gif (for example green) instead of white. i know for the first gif in this particular gifset the text was red, not white, for example. this is what i have, which is already halfway there:
