the agonies... persist
28/10/2023 22:53Aaaugh got sick at the tail end of vacation. It's not flagging as covid between my partner and I testing for it... the going thought is that it might've been the flu, since that seemed to be spiking while we were out. But man, it looked as though I was getting better only for it to ramp back up into my mild fever returning + a real nasty cough. Like, to the point that my ribs hurt.
I want to play the new Mario with the household! I wish to play video game without exposing everyone else or losing a lung!! I wish to have the energy to do things, period!!! laying on the floor and crying
Jesus christ, man.

For those who haven't heard, Unity is changing their pricing plans. There's a lot of garbage changes going on, but the long and short of a big point is that they're planning to charge devs a fee each time a game is installed. Each! Time! They're shooting themselves in the foot! You're telling me that if someone's gonna re-download an eight year old indie game, or if someone refreshes their browser, they're gonna hit the dev in the wallet about it??
Are you kidding me???? This is heinous. I cannot even begin to imagine how this might impact things like the indie devs who pitch their games into mega popular charity bundles on Itch.io.
... well.
These things continue to happen, I guess!
But hey, DW! How ya doin? You trying something new with your homepage? Looking good, looking good.
I hope y'all have been hanging in there okay. On my end... well, I've been distracted by various things! I've been having a lot of fun! But I do also hope the rest of the year will consider easing off my ass, I think that would be swell. (Long story short: health issues! Heart issues, potentially! They seem to be mostly wrangled back in order for now, but golly. Geez. ... but then this month my partner caught covid and our cat had to go to the vet! Yelling!)
In brighter news, in the similar way that I'm checking in here, I managed to push out a solid little update for my hobby site yesterday! I'm quite happy to finally get back to maintaining my lil site. Featuring a new blog post! Functioning RSS feed! Misc page with some small translations pertaining to ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Department!
which my ass has been like, super cursed about. i love it but there's less than three-hundred fanfiction total on AO3. i've been crawling through pixiv fanfic in desperation. does anyone know of it. i'm sticking out my leggy, please consider checking it out. it's twelve episodes long, plus an OVA and some specials. there's beautiful food and beautiful older men. there's these two friends...........
who i think should like, kiss.
noises of discontent
27/04/2023 13:22I've been absorbed by Final Fantasy XI this past while. (Made a new character! Such is my curse!) And--as it has become increasingly apparent over recent months--since I am physically incapable of half-assing the fixation of the moment and not letting everything else void out... similar is bound to happen in May, when both Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release literally one after the other. Ah, I can see it in my mind's eye. The meaningful expression my partner shoots me whenever the subject of ADHD comes up.
( Which brings up the demon in the room: )
Regardless at some point I'll have to be doing some additional clean up, as Imgur is changing up its Terms of Service. So it's time to back up and shuffle images elsewhere, I know this post of alternatives (via IJ) has been making the rounds elsewhere. Perhaps it's even time to sit down and give DW's own small image hosting option a proper look.
If you're a fan of the series and haven't, you really ought to play The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.
I'm alive! The long and short of it is: I got sick again last month. Which makes two for two on months of getting sick in the new year, really do not care for it! Hoping March is kinder in that department, though I'm sure the creep of Spring blossoms will annihilate me either way.
The other long and short of it is, uhhh... I got... really into a video game?? I may have, in fact, been cursed about it. I could not put it down. Which, with my few available hours after work, meant that I extremely ceased to be. (I did have fun though.)
- I did at least work up a little post about my #FreshFebruary attempt.
- RIP, the sick + other game combo got me. Twelve is still a solid number though.
- Naturally, I also wrote about the game that cursed me: Labyrinth of Refrain.
So yeah! I, uh, hope y'all have been hanging in there okay!
Website Updates:
Finally got my lil hobby site restructured a bit! Only a few pages are working while I plan to clean up elsewhere, and there's still some adjustments I'd like to make, particularly making the image popups in the Gallery a little bit nicer on mobile than how they currently act... but that's the biggest hill outta the way!!
I've also admittedly been looking around for other hosts to tinker with down the line. At least for mirroring purposes, but also if I can find a good host that has php functionality: that's the dream, baby!! The host-my-own-little-oekaki-board dream!!
... Plurk?
I also recently remade my plurk account. I've had a handle here for yeaaars, but I wanted an account that wasn't private for various reasons. My old account also both a) did not have a username that aligned with my usual handle elsewhere and b) had a lot of personal stuff I didn't want to delete or have aired out in the open.
It is fascinating looking at it as a platform though, especially in light of folks jumping ship from a certain elsewhere. It's probably functionally the closest thing to Twitter, but it's got very little word of mouth or presence in English-speaking spaces. The majority of English-speakers actually... appear to be primarily the roleplaying community present here on DW. Or folks who continued to stay there after leaving that scene behind, which would include yours truly.
A video game a day?
It's already a few days into the month, but in the background I've been quietly participating in #FreshFebruary. It's been a fun way to try out new games and encounter new devs, particularly through Itch.io, strong recommend!
Unfortunately my job prospect did not pan out! Which, oh well, what can you do. I still have my current job, at least, and my partner's new job seems to be treating her well. Can't be too upset about it.
More pressingly, I seem to be dealing with both a potential sinus infection and a surprise medical bill. Also burned my hand last week making dinner. I'm just extremely not digging the start of the new year! I'd like a re-do!! I've taken some medication for both the sniffling and the pain in the bridge of my nose, so I'm about to be either more functional or less functional in a hot minute.
At least got a solid foot in on reconstructing my hobby site before my face (sinuses) decided to mutiny, but uuugh, I'm gonna be stuck catching up for a bit on various things. I hope y'all have been having a better start to the year.
The new year is looming
31/12/2022 14:19Unfortunately I slept real bad last night for no particular reason, so today's a "bake a banana bread, but take it easy" kind of day. Tomorrow though I'm gonna roll up my sleeves and really dig into cleaning up around the apartment. If I'm entering the new year with a strong drive to bake, I'm gonna need the kitchen cabinets to be agreeable first 😤
I'm the kind of person who's not too firm about resolutions... but for the coming year, I'd like to work on:
- Eating healthier, getting up and moving about more.
- My hobby sites!! Clean up my personal, putting more on it, as well as establishing the fansite.
- Breaking habitual social media checking, particularly with Twitter.
The latter I've already started trying to get a foothold on ever since The Incident™, and it's more than a bit distressing having realized how much time I wasted just scrolling around. I probably won't bail on it 100% so long as it's still up, since it's my only tether to a handful of folks, but definitely gotta work on a healthier boundary.
Last... a bit ago I moved away from keeping a Hobonichi Techo, but this year I'm actually trying again! I've gotten the Days Free version, which both doesn't label specific days and is smaller than the standard. So hopefully that'll be freeing and also work better with my habits. Ideally it should help avoid that cycle. You know, where you miss days and feel guilty about it, and then miss more days because of that guilt...
Update: "I will take it easy today!" I said foolishly, five minutes before getting possessed by the spirit of cleaning and attacking every inch of the bathroom.
Guess whose ceiling once again started leaking into the office area?
(jabbing thumbs at self) Third time since living here, babeeey. Maintenance came by this morning to cut a hole into the light fixture after two days of not drying well, so here's to another couple days of getting blasted by the industrial fan every time I get up from my desk.
The work situation:
... actually doing pretty good!! My partner got a job offer, and she's currently making her way through all the paperwork before she starts next month. So that's a big weight off our shoulders. The surprising twist is that: I had a job interview last week also, with a followup test in a couple days. I'm doing my best and hoping it shakes out!!
The rest:
Then there's all the holiday stuff going on. Both my partner and our roommate will be out traveling at some point, so it's up to me to make sure the baby (cat) is fed and also that someone is here to call maintenance and move electronics if the plumbing would like to continue having incidents. In the background of holiday business, I've slowly been working on a lil fansite and it's been exciting. Hopefully it'll start looking presentable by the start of next year!
And last... I'm also hoping to post to makaistation sometime soon! To apologize for the radio silence and mention that (with any luck) normal newslettering will resume next year. Also that there's been a handful of Disgaea 7 promo happening.
I hope you've all been hanging in there! I see some folks have followed, welcome! Sorry to have been scarce, the year continues to be rough as we head into winter (and it's easier to hole up in video games and the like). To make a long story short: my partner got let go from her job. Which... yeahhh, right before the holiday season, babey! Awful!! Dreadful!!! But things might be looking up, so fingers crossed.
Due to being plagued by agonies this weekend, I'm unfortunately continuing to put off things I'd like to do, haha. But still, note to self:
- Finish that one illustration!
- Clean up and adjust website's code!
- Call about a purchase being cancelled??
- Start working on the Video Games of 2022 post!
I've been around long enough to get that this is just the way of the internet, but it's a pain trying to keep track of friends while everyone scatters to the winds. I'm not sure if I'll have much of any recourse for my overseas follows though, which is the most frustrating thing.
guuooooooughhhhhh
Sonic Frontiers is a game that's coming out in a week, and it's one I've definitely been a bit conflicted on. An open world Sonic game just... wasn't something I was particularly expecting? Hoping for? Wanting?? The initial gameplay trailers didn't quite grab me either.
My resolve has been steadily crumbling as more stuff comes out though, especially regarding the narrative and tone. I can't quite say that the "recent" games in the series have been a certain way, when the last 3D game we actually got was Forces (2017) and even that was a half-step towards this direction. (Though it got rather mixed reception.) But the games and show prior definitely were cheeky, in that kind of not very serious, nudge-wink at the camera way. And that's fine! It's ok! It's just not what I grew up with or wanted from the series.
But I've missed this! This je ne sais quoi from the older games! The way that Sonic was allowed to be dramatic in a way that other mascot games weren't back then!! Just aaaahh, the action! The animation! The nods to SA1 and even S3&K! The small peek at Knuckles' life and the faint twinge of sadness at the end! It's a big part of the reason I really dig the IDW comics: because the plots might be melodramatic and even goofy when viewed from outside, but they're handled with affection and also extremely sincerely.
... which is all the more why, hey, it's extremely cool that the comics folks are working on some of the official games now too! (This short was written by Ian Flynn, and features Evan Stanley as a creative consultant.)
Content Warning: ... is this horny? This is horny, right?? Who decided the Detective Conan villain stand-in should have a defined ass????? Hello????????
It's definitely been something seeing the occasional news about this joke spin-off! (The culprit is voiced by Shota Aoi!?) It's due to air in a couple days and I won't pretend I'm not a little curious. Admittedly, I also really like this art direction more than the current look of the main series, haha.
Oh man, it's been a while, huh?
Listen, I'm not gonna even touch upon offline. Offline's been a mess.
it's been.
a lot.
Instead, let's talk about some online things. Like video games! Video games are certainly a thing that could be considered sometimes online and sometimes fun.
( Final Fantasy XIV )
( Nintendo (General) )
( Splatoon )
Content-wise, most that ends up on there will likely be mirrored or linked, no worries for y'all here on DW. (There are some sketchblog entries that I'll have to post here at some point, note to self.) But no further updates until next week or later, probably.
Because I, barring any last minute crisis, will be taking a road trip with my partner tomorrow to visit my folks. My folks, who live
THIRTEEN HOURS AWAY
by car.
So, well. You know how it is. I'll call them tonight for health status checks, currently doing some laundry and device-charging. We've already got some spare bottles of water freezing in the fridge, too. We'll make a pit-stop on the way over, but it'll probably just be a straight-shot when we head back... just a whole thirteen hours... oouugh...
Thank you all for your responses last entry. I'm doing okay! I'm hanging in there, and life keeps going on. I'll also be visiting my folks pretty soon, but that's for me to yell about in the distance.
In the meanwhile... yesterday CyberConnect2 announced a handful of information for the upcoming Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2, and held a special anniversary stream to celebrate the first game going on sale one year ago.
I'm excited!
( Consider the demo of the original! You can carry the save into the full game! )
( News on the second game, spoiler warnings. )
i'm just checking in before i disappear into another void separate of the usual worldly stress (monster hunter) for two weeks fareweeeell
