    My primary research interests lie within psychoneuroimmunology, particularly understanding disease-modifying biobehavioral mechanisms in the contexts of aging, metabolic dysfunction, psychosocial stress, and psychiatric illness. In order to explore these interests, I combine flow cytometry-based functional immunophenotyping, multi-analyte ECL/ELISA, gene expression analysis, and microbiome characterization, with clinically translational assessments of psychological and cognitive functioning. Furthermore, improved understanding of the mechanisms by which behavioral interventions, such as Tai Chi, exercise, and compassion meditation training, influence disease outcomes is critical in optimizing treatment strategies and is a central focus of my research. Throughout my postdoctoral training, I continue to apply these approaches to a randomized controlled trial of Tai Chi practice in older adults with hypertension under the guidance of my mentor, Dr. Suzi Hong. I also co-facilitate a monthly journal club and speaker series through the UCSD Center of Excellence for Research and Training in Integrative Health (CERT-IH), which seeks to support education and clinical practice in evidence-based integrative modalities.
