Profile
Born in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. I have a total of 10 years of experience serving in Architectural capacity, which the first two years was gained from working in a private architectural firm as a Graduate Architect. My main role was to provide clients with an appraisal and recommendation in order that they may determine the form in which the project was to proceed, ensuring its feasibility; functionally, technically and financially. I ensured implementation of relevant policies and procedures as well as decided on particular proposals including planning arrangement, appearance, constructional method, outline specification and cost.
In 2004, I had the opportunity to take my career a step further with the biggest technical agency in Malaysia, i.e. the Public Works Department. I assumed the role of an Architect which the responsibilities were more streamlined and provided me with an exposure to Project Management. My added responsibilities include production of architectural schemes, design, details, contract admin and supervision, and compliance review of Development Order/ Building Plans.

Introduction
Many historical buildings in the world has been used again and translated into new functions. From the industrial type buildings, churches, government buildings and agriculture buildings has been reused to meet the current needs and to preserve the architectural style from being destroyed.[1] (Cantacuzino, 1989).
According to intellectual references, books and journals relating to adaptive reuse of historical buildings, there is no specific guideline or principle the process to implement adaptive reuse for historical buildings.[2] (Sven, 2003, p.4).
In The Burra Charter, the definition of Adaptation means modifying a place to suit the existing use or proposed use.[3] (Australia ICOMOS, 1999, p.2).

There are many historical buildings in Malaysia are unique instructure, design and architecture style. The historic buildingis very important to preserve because of the history of pastand for the future generations. This dissertation will start with the definitions of adaptivereuse and historical buildings. Then, it will explore whyadaptive reuse is important and feasible if we want to keepthese historical buildings. It will go on to study severalexamples of adaptive reuse of historical buildings inMalaysia and United Kingdom. The dissertation will focus ona case study of Bukit Kepong Police Station
in Malaysia toillustrate how adaptive reuse for this historical building canbe carried out and how the optimum adaptive reuse optionevaluation study can be implemented. The purpose of this dissertation is aimed at showing that, bythe means of adaptive reuse; the economic and functionallife of historical buildings in Malaysia can be preservedsustainably in the long run and passed on to futuregenerations.

This initiative intends to develop, use and evaluate a digital resource of case-study material which is under-represented in UK built environment curricula. It will be a cross-cultural resource, particularly drawing on areas of the world from which our international students come. The resource will be used (and evaluated) in the delivery of undergraduate units in the design related program of the university.
