Abstract

The invention relates to a wheel brake (2) comprising a brake drum (5), brake shoes (6, 7), a support (10), a wedge device (13) and an adjusting device (19), which is located in the vicinity of the wedge device (13) and has an actuator (20) and an adjusting organ (23), which can be displaced in relation to one another when the brakes are actuated. The adjusting device (19) has a release mechanism (28), which releases the engagement of the actuator (20) on the adjusting organ (23) during a brake actuation stroke that is increased beyond the usual extent. The wheel brake (2) has an automatic reversing mechanism (11), which reduces or cancels the braking action during a reversing manoeuvre, thus permitting an increased brake actuation stroke, which activates the release mechanism (28).
