For example, an entity whose SMF is linked with the PGW-C function and is shared with the 4G network can be expressed as PGW-C/SMF, PGW-C+SMF, or SMF+PGW-C, or simply SMF. have.
- a mobility management entity which is a node for mobility management in the AMF and 4G network, may exchange information for supporting terminal mobility between 5G-4G through an N26 interface.
- a communication system subject to the present disclosure may operate based on a network slice.
- a network slice can be viewed as a logically separated network, and can be composed of a set of NFs to support a network function. If a network is operated based on a network slice, it may be operated with different capacities, settings, and policies for each network slice.
- a quota can be introduced for each network slice, and the quota is the maximum number of terminals that can be simultaneously connected to a slice, the maximum number of concurrently created sessions (PDU Sessions or packet data network (PDN) Connections), and the number of subscribers per slice. Including the maximum available data rate, the quota is not limited thereto, and may include other types of parameters necessary for network operation. .
- the slice quota should be applicable not only for 5G but also for 4G access, and the 5G It should be able to be considered even in the case of moving between -4G.
- This operation may be selectively applied to a user subscribed to a 5G service using a 5G supportable terminal.
- 3 shows a control procedure in consideration of slice quota when accessing a 4G network.
- Step 1 After accessing the 4G wireless network (RAN), the terminal may perform an attach process for receiving a 4G service or a process for creating a PDN connection if already registered ( 301 ).
- the UE may perform an operation for establishing a PDN connection by merging during the attach process.
- the UE may include, in a non-access stratum (NAS) request message sent to the MME, a desired access point name (APN) to identify a service that is a target of session creation.
- NAS non-access stratum
- API desired access point name
- the MME may perform a process for creating a session according to information received from the terminal. If the UE explicitly includes the APN in the message of step 1, the MME may determine whether the APN requested by the UE is allowed based on the subscription information received from the HSS/UDM. If the UE does not explicitly include the APN, the MME may use the default APN included in the subscription information received from the HSS/UDM or set in the MME.
- the MME selects a gateway (gateway, GW; SGW, PGW) to process the session in consideration of the determined APN and other parameters, and the MME sends a request message for session creation to PGW-C+SMF (hereinafter referred to as SMF) and 302 , which may be transmitted to the SMF through the SGW.
- SMF PGW-C+SMF
- the Create Session Request message transmitted by the MME may include the determined APN and an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) of the terminal.
- IMSI international mobile subscriber identity
- the SMF may determine whether it is possible to support the APN through the received APN, and, if necessary, may perform a procedure for receiving and applying the PCF (PCRF) and the session-related policy.
- the SMF selects a slice (single-network slice selection assistance information, S-NSSAI) mapped with the APN, and may also perform slice selection through the NSSF during this process ( 303 ).
- Step 4 If it is necessary to consider the quota for the network slice, step 4 or less may be performed. This may be determined based on information set in the SMF, a policy received from the PCF, or subscription information received from the UDM. This may be limitedly applied to specific subscribers, or may be limitedly applied to a specific S-NSSAI or APN.
- SMF is NF for slice quota management (referred to as Counting NF in this disclosure, but may be named Network Slice Quota Management Function, etc., or PCF, UDM, UDR (unified data repository) among NFs that have previously provided other functions ), etc.
- the request message sent by the SMF may include the selected S-NSSAI, a radio access technology (RAT) type to which the terminal is currently connected, an ID of a subscriber, a selected APN, a session ID, and the like.
- the RAT to which the terminal is currently connected may be indirectly indicated by other information included in the request message sent by the SMF. For example, if the ID of the subscriber is included in the request message sent by the SMF, the counting NF that receives it may determine the RAT accessed by the subscriber as 4G/LTE and perform an operation accordingly.
- Step 5 Counting NF may determine whether the request received in step 4 can be accepted (305). At this time, the counting NF may perform a process of comparing the quota (maximum number of terminals, maximum number of sessions) currently set for each slice with the actual number of terminals and sessions collected so far. If slice use is allowed, the NF may update the UE/session state for each slice. As an example of such status update, when the access of the corresponding slice is the first for the corresponding terminal/subscriber (ie, when the first session is created), the number of terminals may be increased by one. If a new session is created for the corresponding slice, the number of sessions may be increased by one. If a session is newly added for the corresponding slice, but there is an existing session, only the number of sessions can be increased by 1. A session is newly added for the corresponding slice, but if there is an existing session, the number of terminals may not be increased.
- the quota maximum number of terminals, maximum number of sessions
- Step 6/7 If slice-related state information needs to be stored in a separate NF or storage, the counting NF sends a request for updating/saving state information to the NF that provides the corresponding function (306), and this message includes slice-specific information (maximum/ current quota information) and information on the current target terminal/subscriber/session.
- the separate NF or Storage may be UDM or UDR, or may be a network entity (NF) having state information of a slice.
- a separate NF that has received the message may return a response to the above status information update/store to the counting NF (307).
- the counting NF may transmit a request message to the UDM (306).
- the UDM may store slice-specific information and/or information on a current target UE/subscriber/session in the UDR.
- the counting NF may transmit a request message to the UDR, which may be transmitted to the UDR through the UDM (306).
- Step 8 The counting NF sends a response indicating that the slice is available, and at this time, information of the current slice may be transmitted together (308).
- Step 9 The SMF may finally determine the S-NSSAI to be delivered to the terminal (309).
- Step 10 The SMF transmits the Create Session Response to the MME, and at this time, the selected S-NSSAI may be included in a protocol configuration option (PCO) (310). This message may be delivered to the MME through the SGW.
- PCO protocol configuration option
- Step 11 The MME sends an acceptance message notifying that the attachment or session creation is permitted to the terminal, and at this time, it may transmit including the previously received PCO (311).
- the terminal finally receives the S-NSSAI, and this information can be used for the registration process and other session processing when the terminal moves to the 5G network in the future.
- 4 shows a control procedure in consideration of slice quota when accessing a 4G network.
- Step 1 After accessing the 4G wireless network (RAN), the terminal may perform an attach process for receiving 4G service or a process for creating a PDN connection if it is already registered ( 401 ).
- the UE may perform an operation for establishing a PDN connection by merging during the attach process.
- the UE may include a desired APN in the NAS request message sent to the MME in order to classify a service that is a target of session creation.
The MME selects a GW (SGW, PGW) to process the session in consideration of the determined APN and other parameters, and the MME sends a request message for session creation to PGW-C+SMF (hereinafter referred to as SMF) (402) , which may be forwarded to the SMF through the SGW.
- SMF PGW-C+SMF
- the Create Session Request message transmitted by the MME may include the determined APN and the subscriber ID (IMSI) of the terminal.
- the SMF may determine whether it is possible to support the APN through the received APN, and, if necessary, may perform a procedure for receiving and applying the PCF (PCRF) and the session-related policy.
- the SMF selects the slice (S-NSSAI) mapped with the APN, and may also perform slice selection through the NSSF during this process (403).
- the SMF is an NF for slice quota management (referred to as Counting NF in this disclosure, but the name may be Network Slice Quota Management Function, etc., or PCF, UDM, UDR, etc. among NFs that have previously provided other functions are corresponding functions may be included.) to check the slice quota status, and call a request service for checking whether user/session addition to the slice is possible (404).
- the request message sent by the SMF may include the selected S-NSSAI, the RAT type to which the terminal is currently connected, the subscriber's ID, the selected APN, the Session ID, and the like.
- the counting NF may perform a process for determining the state information of the current slice with a separate NF or storage (405).
- a separate NF or storage may be a UDM or a UDR, or may be a network entity (NF) having state information of a slice.
- the state information may include a quota set for each slice (the maximum number of terminals, the maximum number of sessions) and the actual number of terminals and sessions collected so far.
- the counting NF may transmit a request message to the UDM.
- the UDM may store state information in the UDR.
- the counting NF may transmit a request message to the UDR, which may be transmitted to the UDR through the UDM.
- the counting NF may check the quota set for each slice to determine whether the request received in step 4 can be accepted (406). At this time, the counting NF may perform a process of comparing the quota (maximum number of terminals, maximum number of sessions) currently set for each slice with the actual number of terminals and sessions collected so far. If the status of the current slice reaches or exceeds the upper limit of the quota, a new terminal or session cannot be accessed.
- Step 7 If, through the determination of step 6, the current slice situation reaches or exceeds the upper limit of the quota, the Counting NF sends a response that the slice is unavailable (407), and the reason (cause; due to the limit of the number of terminals), Or is it due to the limitation of the number of sessions?).
- a back-off timer value may be transmitted together.
- the back-off timer may have separate values for limiting the number of terminals (Mobility Management) and limiting the number of sessions (session management), and may be transmitted along with a reason to distinguish between the two.
- Step 8 The SMF may finally determine the reason for rejecting the session creation request to be notified to the MME, and set a back-off timer value in consideration of the previously received timer (408).
- Step 9 The SMF transmits the Create Session Response to the MME (409), including a reason indicating that the request is rejected at this time. In addition, it may include a back-off timer value. This message may be delivered to the MME through the SGW. In this case, the Response may be a reject message.
- Step 10 The MME can determine whether attach is possible even when session creation is rejected based on the message received from the SMF, and sets the set value of the back-off timer to the limit of the number of quota terminals in the slice or the limit of the number of quota sessions in the slice. Depending on whether or not it is caused, it may be determined between a mobility management (MM) back-off timer and a session management (SM) back-off timer ( 410 ).
- MM mobility management
- SM session management
- Step 11 The MME sends a message indicating that Attach or Session creation is rejected to the terminal (411), and at this time, the reason indicating whether it is because of the limitation of the number of quota terminals of the slice (Mobility Management) or the limitation of the number of quota sessions of the slice (Session Management) may include
- the back-off timer determined in step 10 may be included.
- the MME may select and explicitly inform the UE of the APN that is the target of rejection.
- Step 12 If the connection request is rejected and the terminal receives the back-off timer, the terminal starts the back-off timer and must not transmit the request while the timer is running (412). If the UE explicitly specifies the APN in step 1 and receives a rejection, it cannot transmit the request for the corresponding APN until the back-off timer expires. If the APN is not explicitly requested, and the APN is received through the message in step 11, the session management request for the corresponding APN cannot be transmitted until the back-off timer expires. If the APN is not requested/received or received due to the mobility management rejection of the attach request, the terminal may not transmit the mobility management request until the back-off timer expires.
- the back-off timer of the terminal can be applied as it is when a cell change, mobility, or RAT change (movement to a 5G network, etc.) of the terminal occurs.
- 5 shows a control procedure in consideration of slice quota when accessing a 4G network.
- Step 1 After accessing the 4G wireless network (RAN), the terminal may perform an attach process for receiving a 4G service or a process for creating a PDN connection if already registered ( 501 ).
- the UE may perform an operation for establishing a PDN connection by merging during the attach process.
- the UE may include a desired APN in the NAS request message sent to the MME in order to classify a service that is a target of session creation.
The MME selects a GW (SGW, PGW) to process the session in consideration of the determined APN and other parameters, and the MME sends a request message for session creation to PGW-C+SMF (hereinafter referred to as SMF) (502) , which may be forwarded to the SMF through the SGW.
- the SMF selects the slice (S-NSSAI) mapped with the APN, and may also perform slice selection through the NSSF during this process (503).
- the SMF is an NF for slice quota management (referred to as Counting NF in this disclosure, but the name may be Network Slice Quota Management Function, etc., or PCF, UDM, UDR, etc. among NFs that have previously provided other functions are corresponding functions may be included.) to check the slice quota status, and call a request service for checking whether user/session addition to the slice is possible ( 504 ).
- the request message sent by the SMF may include the selected S-NSSAI, the RAT type to which the terminal is currently connected, the ID of the subscriber, the selected APN, the Session ID, and the like.
- the counting NF may perform a process for determining the status information of the current slice with a separate NF or storage (505).
- Step 6 Counting NF may check the quota set for each slice to determine whether the request received in step 4 can be accepted (506). In this case, the counting NF may perform a process of comparing the quota (maximum number of terminals, maximum number of sessions) set for each slice with the actual number of terminals and sessions collected so far. If the status of the current slice reaches or exceeds the upper limit of the quota, a new terminal or session cannot be accessed.
- Step 7 Through the determination of step 6, if the current slice situation reaches or exceeds the upper limit of the quota, the Counting NF sends a response that the slice is unavailable (507), and the reason (cause; due to the limit of the number of terminals) Or is it due to the limitation of the number of sessions?). If the service can be provided when the UE is replaced with another slice or APN, the NF may instead inform the selected APN information to the SMF.
- Step 8 the SMF may determine the APN to be replaced ( 508 ), and at this time, the SMF internal setting, the subscription information received from UDM/HSS or the APN policy received from the PCF, and the APN information received in step 7 are used.
- Step 9 The SMF transmits the Create Session Response to the MME (509), and at this time, a reason indicating that the request is rejected may be included. In addition, if the APN to be replaced is determined, this may be notified to the MME. This message may be delivered to the MME through the SGW.
- Step 10 Knowing that the request has been rejected, the MME may determine whether to provide a service through APN replacement (510). This may be determined using the MME internal configuration, subscription information received from UDM/HSS, or information received in step 9 .
- the MME may request to create a session by sending a Create Session Request to the SMF again. In this case, the procedure from step 2 302 of FIG. 3 may be repeated.
- the S-NSSAI for the APN replaced by the MME is selected by the SMF and delivered to the terminal through the PCO. Also, the network may not explicitly notify the replaced APN to the UE.
- APN replacement even if the Counting NF notifies the APN to be replaced in step 7 or the SMF does not inform the APN to be replaced in step 8, it may be applied by the decision of the MME. In this case, when the session creation request is rejected through step 8, the MME may determine APN replacement, select the APN, and perform the session creation request.
- FIG. 6 shows a control procedure in consideration of slice quota when accessing a 4G network.
- Step 1 The terminal may perform a PDN connection creation process for accessing the 4G network or an attach process in which a PDN connection creation request is merged (601). This corresponds to steps 1 to 3 of FIG. 3 above.
- Step 2 Upon receiving the session creation request, the SMF determines whether slice access or session creation is possible for the terminal according to the preceding embodiments, and if possible, the maximum transmission rate for each slice (Per Slice Aggregated Maximum Bit Rate, per slice AMBR) for the terminal. ) can be determined (602). In this case, the maximum transmission rate for each slice indicates the maximum transmission rate of data that one UE can transmit and receive through one slice. At this time, if the SMF can determine the APN unit AMBR, it can calculate it immediately. If two or more PDN Connections are created for one slice and APN, and similar to 5G, if Per Slice Session AMBR can be determined for each Session/Connection, SMF is the sum of AMBRs of Sessions belonging to the same slice. APN-AMBR may be determined. If one Slice is supported by two or more SMFs or the SMF of each session is different, the above calculation may be performed by PCF instead of SMF.
- PCF instead of SMF.
- Step 3 SMF transmits the calculated per slice APN-AMBR to UPF through a PFCP message (603). If the 4G network does not support explicit per slice APN-AMBR, the calculated per slice APN-AMBR may be replaced with APN-AMBR and transmitted.
- Step 4 The SMF may deliver the calculated per slice APN AMBR to the MME through the allowed APN-AMBR field of the Create Session Response message (604). This message may be delivered to the MME through the SGW.
- the MME may store the received APN-AMBR and include it in the NAS response message sent to the terminal. In addition, the MME may update the UE-AMBR using the received APN-AMBR (605).
- the MME may transmit a response message indicating that the Attach or PDN connection creation request is accepted to the terminal (606).
- This message may include the S-NSSAI inserted into the PCO by the SMF, and the APN-AMBR calculated in consideration of the quota for each slice for the created session.
- slice-related information is included in the NAS response message to the terminal's request, but this may be expressed in the form of a message requested by the NW instead of the response message.
- the response message of step 11 to the request for session creation of the terminal in step 1 can be viewed as a response message from the viewpoint of the terminal, but in reality, the default bearer when session creation is in progress in the network may be delivered in the form of a network-triggered request to create
