Abstract
MKEYPAD is a table top modified qwerty computer keyboard, has 16 keys, programmed to be equivalent to normal 84 keys QWERTY keyboard. 8 numbers of input keys are arranged horizontally and each key can be modified to 10 keys. Left side 4 input keys are operated by 4 left hand fingers and right side 4 input keys are operated by 4 right hand fingers. Each finger has to press only 1 input key. Outputs generated by 8 input keys are modified by 6 modifier keys. ShiftLock, Function, RowShift, AlphShift, Command and NumLock are arranged in a row below the input key row and pressed by two thump fingers. Ctrl and Alt key will carry out short cut key operations. ShiftLock key has the same function of two shift keys and CapsLock key of qwerty computer keyboard.
Description
1 MKEYPAD is a table top keypad which is a modified version of QWERTY keyboard.
2 MKEYPAD is initially designed to work with the existing desktop and laptop computers. Further, these key arrangements can be adopted in mobiles, tablets and other portable devices.
3 Existing computer keyboards are termed as QWERTY keyboards which has more than 100 keys. Even though technology has improved very much, no efforts are made to modify this key layout, so that with less number of keys same function can be achieved.
Technical Problem
4 In this invention, major effort has been made to reduce the number of keys on the keypad to get the same outputs of a normal QWERTY keyboard.
Solution to Problem
5 A keypad titled as MKEYPAD which has only 16 keys configured and programmed in such a way that same function and output of a lap top keyboard can be generated.
Advantageous Effects of Invention
6 Since there are only 16 keys on the keypad, hardware cost will be considerably reduced. During the normal operation, one finger needs only to press one key which will reduce the strain and stress on the fingers.
7 There are 16 keys on the keypad that is sufficient for data entry as given on the Figure-1. Among 16 keys, Key-1, Key-2, Key-3 and Key-4 are data input keys and pressed by 4 left hand fingers. Key-5, Key-6, Key-7, Key-8 are data input keys and pressed by 4 right hand fingers. ShiftLock (Key-9), Ctrl (Key-10), Function (Key-11), RowShift (Key-12), AlphShift (Key-13), Command (Key-14), Alt (Key-15) and NumLock (Key-16) are arranged in a row below the input keys row and pressed by two thump fingers.
8 MKEYPAD is a table top modified QWERTY keyboard which has only 16 keys which will function same as an 84 keys laptop keyboard. Out of 16 keys, 8 keys are data input keys. Each input key is equal to 10 keys of a QWERTY keyboard. Ctrl and Alt keys have the same function as in the QWERTY keyboard used for short cut operation.
9 Outputs generated by 8 input keys are arranged in two rows. Default row is the top row and each input key can be modified to 5 keys using modifier keys and modified 5 keys are marked on each input key. When RowShift key is pressed, each input key will be modified in combination with modifier keys to another set of 5 keys. Modified 5 keys are marked on each modifier key below the each input key. ShiftLock key has the function of two shift keys and CapsLock key of a QWERTY keyboard.
10 MKEYPAD will work also as calculator. There is a new button titled as Cal is added in the NumLock group. When NumLock key is pressed and locked, Numeric Operation can be carried out. Calculated output will be generated when Cal key is pressed. As an example, 100-50+20=70 is generated when Cal key is pressed at the end of numeric operation.
11 8 default outputs generated are: Zz Xx Cc Gg Vv Bb Nn Mm. 8 Outputs generated when AlphShift key is pressed are: Aa Ss Dd Ff Hh Jj Kk Ll. 8 Outputs generated when RowShift key is pressed are: Qq Ww Ee Rr Uu Ii Oo Pp. 8 Output generated when RowShift and AlphShift keys pressed together are: ~` “’ :; Tt Yy <, >. ?/
12 When NumLock is pressed and locked, 8 default Numeric outputs are: !1 @2 #3 $4 &7 *8 (9 )0. When Rowshift and NumLock key is pressed, 8 Numeric outputs are: /. { [ }] %5 ^6 _ - += Cal.
13 When Function key is pressed, 8 default Functional outputs are: F1 F2 F3 F4 F9 F10 F11 F12. When Function and RowShift keys are pressed together, 8 Functional outputs are: | \ PopupWindow F5 F6 F7 F8 PrtSc/SysRq Pause/Break.
14 When Command key is pressed, 8 Command outputs are: Ins Tab Del Space Enter BackSpace Esc Home. When Command Key and RowShift key pressed together 8 Command outputs are: WindowKey PgUp PgDn End LeftArrow DownArrow UpArrow RightArrow.
