Abstract

A corrective device for treating kyphotic deformities of the spine comprises a belt having mechanical hook and loop fasteners on its end, a back piece connected to the belt and having shoulder straps, buckles disposed on the belt for receiving said shoulder straps, and stiffening ribs made of a resilient material. The device comprises a flexible rod extending from the bottom edge of the belt to the occipital region of a patient, a vertical pocket disposed in the middle of the belt and the back piece for accommodating the lower portion of the flexible rod, and a chin support with fastening members capable of encompassing the outer surface of the upper portion of the flexible rod and of being secured in a selected position. The device additionally comprises two vertically arranged straps, each of which is connected at one end to the upper portion of the belt, wherein the straps are of sufficient length to pass around a patient's trouser belt and to be fastened at the other end in a selected position by means of hook and loop fasteners. The aim of the present invention is to create a device for the prophylaxis and effective treatment of kyphotic deformities of the thoracolumbar, thoracic and cervical spine which allows the controlled correction of kyphotic deformities of all of the regions of the spine.
