- the U-loops of the known locks of the prior art generally comprise a longer leg which remains housed in the body even when the shank is unlocked for opening the padlock.
- the lock further comprises a means for retaining the longer leg in the lock body.
- the present invention achieves the above objects by means of a padlock of the type comprising a U-shaped rod housed in a body, the rod being unlocked by turning a barrel of a cylinder assembly.
- the padlock comprises a one-piece trigger device which is formed by a base which is operatively associated with the barrel of the barrel assembly, an elongate body portion which is positioned above the base and has end portions configured to be housed in corresponding housings of the barrel. rod portion, and a limiter portion projecting laterally from the elongate body portion.
- Turning the barrel of the cylinder assembly for opening the padlock causes rotation of the base of the driver device and, consequently, rotation of the elongate body, causing the end portions of the elongate body to dislodge the rod housings.
- the rotation of the actuator for opening the padlock is limited by a limiting surface on the body, whereby when the actuator is turned for opening the padlock, the restrictor portion of the driver device cooperates with a cutout portion of the rod to prevent removal of the body stem.
- the limiter portion protrudes laterally from one end of the elongate body portion.
- the lock body is formed of a carton and a cap, and the restricting surface is formed by a surface of the cap.
- the positioning of the components is secured by positioners on the closure surface of the carton and by pockets for the locators in the closure surface of the closure.
- the limiter portion is a portion with a "parrot beak” shape, wherein a tip further away from the "parrot beak” portion interacts with the cutout portion of the stem when the rotation of the driver device is limited by the surfaces of the carton and the pad cover.
- the housing, cover and actuator may be made of "flameproof" thermoset polymer so as not to conduct electricity and not to propagate flames, the cover and the case being joined by the ultrasonic welding process, after the actuator, cylinder and rod assembly have been positioned in the lock box and the assembly has been completed with the closure with the cap.
- the actuating device and the rod can be injected into resin, and the cylinder assembly is made of Zamac alloy, brass and steel.

- Figure 1 shows an exploded view of a padlock according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
- the padlock comprises a body formed by a cap 1 and a casing 2.
- the lid 1 and a carton 2 are preferably fabricated from polymeric material, preferably acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) with pigmentation and anti-flame additives, and are configured to receive the cylinder assembly 3, a drive device 4 and a U-shaped rod 5.
- the cylinder assembly 3 is a part the operation of which is well known to those skilled in the art and generally comprises a housing housing a cannon receiving the key. When the correct key is inserted into the cannon and rotated, the cannon is also rotated. The operation of such a cylinder assembly is well known in the art and therefore will not be described in detail herein.
- the cylinder assembly is comprised of Zamak alloy, brass and action components and whose pin configuration allows 3125 combinations.
- the casing of the cylinder assembly 3 of the present invention is designed so that the pin housing portion has an axial length less than the length of the cannister housing portion and a slightly tapered cross section from the cannister housing portion to the opposite direction.
- the cylinder is operatively associated with a one-piece actuator device 4, so that rotation of the cylinder barrel causes the drive device 4 to rotate.
- operatively associated comprises, for example, a fit between the base of the driver device and the upper part of the cylinder barrel.
- the driver device 4 is a single piece injected into resin.
- the resin is a XENOY TM 5220U BK 1066 resin (Polycarbonate (PC) + Polybutylene terafilate (PBT) + ethylenepolytephylate (PT)
- the actuating device 4 comprises a base 4a which cooperates with the cylinder assembly cylinder, an elongate body portion 4b which is positioned above the base 4a, and a limiter portion 4c projecting laterally from the elongated body portion 4b .
- the U-shaped shank 5 is preferably resin-injected and has one leg longer than the other.
- the stem has two opposing housings 5a and 5b, and the longer leg of the stem has a cut-away stem portion 5c.
- the U-shaped rod is made of steel.
- the rod is injected into XENOYTM 5220U BK 1066 resin.
- the elongate body portion 4b of the driver device 4 has two ends that extend longitudinally beyond the base 4a, the most end portion of each of the ends having a hemispherical shape.

- the restrictor portion 4c does not interact with any part of the pad member or body.

- the limiter portion 4c is configured to cooperate with the cut-out portion 5c of the rod 5 and thus prevent complete removal of the rod 5 from the elongate body.
- the limiter portion 4c has a "parrot-beak" shape, so as to allow rotation of the stem about the axial axis of the longer leg, until the tip farthest from the nozzle acts as the limiter when the rotation of the device 4 is limited by the surface 2a of the carton 2.
- the limiter contained in the actuator acts as the limiter of the rod, preventing it from being completely removed, and it can only rotate.
- the lock of the present invention features an extremely simplified construction where the one piece workpiece actuator 4 acts as a rotary actuator, rod locking means and rod retaining means.
- the driver 4 is engaged in the cylinder assembly 3, then both are engaged in the pad box 2, similar to the stem 5, in sequence the padlock lid 1 is positioned to then the cap 1 and housing 2 are joined by the ultrasonic welding process.
