Detailed description:
According to this invention, we have provided improved ruler and improved Sets or T square.
The present invention is comprised of an improved ruler and Sets or T square which enables a draftsperson to accurately and efficiently draft:
1. A parallel line segment of required length to an existing line or line segment at a desired distance.
2. A line segment of required length at any of the provided angles on the improved ruler.
3. A regular polygon of 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 12 sides of desired length. Moreover, star polygons can also be constructed similarly.
3. These abilities are invaluable in terms of time and effort to a draftsperson.
4. Marking 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 12 number o sectors in circle.
5. Draw hatching lines at 30, 45 and 60 degrees at desired offset.
In accordance with an embodiment of this invention figure 1A and IB illustrates the elevational front view and a left side view of the improved ruler. Improved ruler (10) which is made up of transparent material has a centimetre measuring scale (1) originating from the centre line (3) on either side of it. Centre line (3) is located exactly at the centre of the improved ruler (10) and is perpendicular to both the edges. A similar centimetre scale (12) is marked below (1) having a range of 30cm. Also, an inches scale (9) having range 12 inches is marked. Figure 1A also shows angular indication (5) at an angle of 18 degree with respect to the centre line (3). Similarly, indications (6), (7), and (8) are marked at 30, 45, and 60 degrees respectively. These indications appear on both the sides of the centre line.
Figure IB shows the left side view of the improved ruler (10). A slot (15) in provided in the ruler (10) so as to provide a pathway for the improved Sets or T square to traverse axially without dislocation. The slot should be designed such that the improved Sets or T square can be easily engaged and disengaged, and should only traverse along the direction of the improved ruler (10).
In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention Figure 2A illustrates an improved ruler where there are two scales (18), (19) on either side of the edges of the ruler (20). These measuring scales are in the ratio of 2: 1 and 2A(1/2): 1 respectively. Other aspects are similar to that of the ruler (10) in figure 1A.
Figure 2B shows the left side view of the ruler (20). There are two slots (21) and (22) adjacent to the scales (18) and (19) respectively. These slots provide a pathway for the 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 improved Sets or T squares respectively.
Figure 3A and 3B illustrates the elevational front view, and left side view of the holding component (36) of the improved 45-45-90 Sets or T square. The improved Sets or T square consist of a movable component (32) which can traverse along the edge of the Sets or T square (34). The component (31) has a centimetre scale (32) indicated on it. Another component (35) which is mutually perpendicular to (34) is elevated and contains (33) which is extended from surface (38). The surface (38) consists of markings (37) at a regular interval from each other. The surface (38) is also coated with an opaque material such that only the markings (37) are visible, and the view below is blocked. This embodiment also contains a protractor (39) with angles ranging from 0 to 180 degrees (not shown), and a void (40) to mark the preferred angle on the drawing board. An improved 30-60-90 Sets or T square can be constructed in a similar fashion.
Best method of performance of the invention:
Figure 4A and 4B show the engagement of the improved ruler and the improved SETS OR T square. This configuration is used to draft a parallel line of required length at a desired distance from the initial position. The ruler (10) and Sets or T square (20) are connected to each other by the element (42) on the Sets or T square and the slot (43) provided on the ruler (10). This configuration only allows the relative axial motion to take place, and removes any other movement caused while drafting the required line segment. To draft the required line segment following steps are taken:
1. Initially the above-mentioned configuration is positioned such that the edge of the movable component (44) on the improved Sets or T square is aligned to the line (45) to which we have to draft a parallel line segment.
2. At this initial position of the Sets or T square, keep the position of the Sets or T square fixed and align the markings (47) on the improved ruler with any of the suitable marking (46) on the Sets or T square.
3. Now keeping the ruler stationary, move the Sets or T square (20) such that the noted marking on the Sets or T square moves the desired distance at which we want our parallel line segment to be from the initial position.
4. Thus, the edge of the movable component (44) is at the desired distance from the initial position. Hence we can draft a line segment of required length with the help of the scale provided on the component (48).
5. Figure 5 illustrates that the ability of the movable component (51) provided on the improved Sets or T square (20) enables us to draft a line segment at a position which is not directly above or below the initial position. Moreover, we can draft a line segment of length greater than the length of scale (52) provided on the component (51) by just moving the component (51) and not the entire Sets or T square (20), thus eliminating any error in drafting a long line segment, and simultaneously saving time in drafting the required line segment.
The process of drafting the desired parallel line segment can be carried out using the embodiment shown in figure 2A and 2B. Here the construction shown in figure 3B is constructed along the longest edge of the improved Sets or T squares. The improved 30-60-90 Sets or T square is attached to the slot adjacent to the 2: 1 scale. Similarly, the improved 45-45-90 Sets or T square is attached to the slot adjacent to the 2A(1/2): 1 scale and the same steps are followed as mentioned above to draft the parallel line segment.
Figure 6 shows the elevational front view of the improved ruler (10) and illustrates the ability of the improved ruler (10) to draft a line segment of required length at a desired angle with respect to another line or line segment. Moreover, this ability also allows the draftsman to draft a regular polygon/star polygon. The above-mentioned operation can be achieved by following these steps:
1. Position the improved ruler (10) with respect to the line segment (61) in such a way that the point (62) on the improved ruler is coincident with the end point of the line segment (61).
2. Now align the marking (64) provided on the improved ruler, such that it is superimposed on the line segment (61).
3. Thus, the edge (65) of the improved ruler is inclined with respect to the line segment (61) at an angle displayed by the marking (64) on the improved ruler (10). The marking (64) also shows the interior and exterior angle made by the edge (65) of the improved ruler (10). 4. Now draft a line segment of required length which is inclined at the desired angle. The measuring scale (66) provided on the improved ruler (10) assists the draftsman to draft a line segment of required length. Similarly, we can draft line segments of required length at other desired angles.
5. To draft a regular polygon, repeat the above process keeping the angle and the length of the drafted line segment same, and just changing the position of the point (62) from the end point of initial line segment (61) to the end point of the newly drafted segment. The end point of the final line segment will meet the starting point of the initial line segment (61), thus completing the loop and forming a regular polygon.
It is to be understood that the process of present invention is susceptible to modifications, changes and adaptations are intended to be with the scope of the present invention.
Inventive step of the invention:
Following are the inventive steps of the present invention:
1. The provision of slot on the improved ruler guides the improved Sets or T square to slide along axis of the improved ruler, whereas markings of the centimetre scale on the improved ruler indicates the draftsperson about the distance at which the line segment is to be drafted. This ability enables the draftsperson to traverse at desired distance and draft the desired line segment rapidly with greater accuracy.
2. The sliding mechanism provided on the improved Sets or T square increases range of the magnitude of the offset to be drawn. This ability allows the draftsperson to draft the line segment of magnitude greater than the length of the sliding component of the improved Sets or T square without moving the entire improved Sets or T square, thus maintain a straight line and saving time. 3. The markings of conventional angles along with the centimeter scale originating from the center of the edge allows the draftsperson to draft a line segment of required length at conventional angles in least number of steps thus saving time and effort. Further more, regular polygons and star polygons with sides of desired magnitude, sectors in a circle and hatching an area.
Industrial application:
This invention has its application for draftsman, engineering students, technical schools/colleges, architectures, carpentry art work
Additional advantages and modification will readily occur to those skilled in art. Therefore, the invention in its broader aspect is not limited to specific details and representative embodiments shown and described herein. Accordingly various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the general invention concept as defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
