Description
DETACHABLE MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT, METHOD FOR INSTALLING A DETACHABLE MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT, AND A SHELVING UNIT
Technical Field
The present disclosure relates to a shelving system, and especially to a wall fastening arrangement of the shelving system. In particularly for the specific use of a detachable wall mounting arrangement.
Background
In the field of shelving or other wall hung units, it is often needed a fastening arrangement to attach the unit to the wall. Normally this is done with a console which is screwed into the wall. However, this arrangement is in particularly unsuitable when there is a need for temporarily installing a shelf or any other wall hung unit since the use of screws makes an inflexible solution, and it leaves unattractive holes. In WO2015/031960, there is disclosed a fastener free connection. However, the forces from the unit itself as well as any load upon the shelf may affect the fastening piece in a negative way. Hence, there is a need for an improved solution.
Summary
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved solution that alleviates the mentioned drawbacks with present devices. Furthermore, it is an object to provide a detachable mounting arrangement, which provides a flexible mounting solution for shelving units or other wall hung units. With detachable mounting arrangement, it is meant a mounting arrangement which provides for ready connection to a wall or the like, and which may allow for detachment without leaving any unattractive marks. Furthermore, it is an object to provide a mounting arrangement where the need for fastening elements such as screws, nails or rivets is minimized.
An aspect of the invention is to provide a detachable mounting arrangement for detachably mounting wall hung units to a wall. The
detachable mounting arrangement comprises a wall side receiving member configured to be arranged to a wall, and a connection element. A part of the connection element is configured to be received in the wall side receiving
member. The connection element comprises at least a first portion which is configured to be at least partially received in the wall side receiving member and has a cross sectional shape that corresponds to at least a part of the cross sectional shape of the wall side receiving member. The cross sectional shape of the first portion is in the form of an arc. The connection element, when in use, is configured to be arranged so that a far end of the first portion is arranged in the wall receiving member at a vertically higher level than any other part of the first portion of the connection element. An advantage with a mounting arrangement of this type is that a connection element may be detachably connected to the wall side receiving member. In that way, the shelf, table, basket or any other wall hung unit may be mounted and dismounted in an easy way. Also, it is possible that a number of wall hung units may be mounted using the same type of connection element, and therefore can be interchangeably mounted without making new holes. A connection element of the type may have good load bearing capabilities as well. When inserted, the load from the wall hung unit may be transferred along the connection element and carried by the connection element itself, with the aid of the surrounding wall side receiving member. The wall side receiving member may be a pre-formed hole of a suitable shape and may be arranged in a wall or another upright wall type member for instance a vehicle wall or side. The hole may be arranged to be a perfect fit for the connection element. Since the cross sectional shape may slope upwards along at least a part of the cross section of the first portion, the load from the wall hung unit may be transferred along the first portion and upwards towards the far end. Any moment or torque arising from the load may be absorbed by the surrounding walls of the wall side receiving member. Thereby, the load may be partially absorbed by the wall side receiving member. Further, this type of connection may not require any additional fastening using obstructing fasteners such as screws or nails. This may be especially advantageous where there is need for quick and easy mounting and detachment. For instance, in recreational vehicles, shop displays units and the like, there may be a need to be able to store wall hung units until needed, and then to detach
them to store again. The connection may be arranged within the concave side of an arc facing upwards. Therefore, forces applied to the connection element, may transfer along the connection element and be distributed along the wall side receiving member. Further, by having the wall side receiving member arranged in that way, dirt and grime may not be likely to form within the wall receiving member.
In one embodiment, the connection element comprises a second portion configured to be connected to the wall hung unit. The connection element may thus be constructed to have two portions. A first portion to be arranged within the wall receiving member and a second portion to be connected to the wall hung unit. The connection element may thereby be an individual piece. The second portion may be in any shape. For instance, it may be flat. Also, it may be attached to the wall hung unit in any way, for instance by screws.
In one embodiment, the detachable mounting arrangement may further comprise a unit side receiving member configured to receive the second portion of the connection element. A cross sectional shape of the unit side receiving member may correspond to the cross sectional shape of the second portion. The cross sectional shape of the second portion may be in the form of an arc, and the connection element, when in use, may be configured to be arranged so that a far end of the second portion is arranged in the unit receiving member at a vertically higher level than any other part of the second portion of the connection element. In this way, the first portion of the connection element may be configured to fit the wall side receiving member, and the second portion configured to fit the unit side receiving member.
In one embodiment, the connection element may have a length, extending in a direction perpendicular to the cross section. The cross sectional shape may be uniform along the length. The connection element may be arranged at any suitable length which may be required for the specific use. A bigger wall hung unit may require a longer connection element in order to carry the load from the wall hung unit and in order to provide stability to the
wall hung unit. Alternatively, a plurality of shorter connection elements may be used.
In one embodiment, the connection element may have at least a first thickness and a second thickness. The thickness in the center of the connection element may be greater than the thickness at the far end of the first portion and/or second portion. The connection element may have a flat portion. The flat portion may be located at the lower part of the center of the arc. With lower part, it is meant the part which is the lowest located when installed. That may be, on the convex side of the arc. The flat portion may be a part of a thickening at the center of the connection element. Further, at the convex side of the far end there may be a gripping portion. The gripping portion may also have a thickening. The connection element may further have a bulge. The bulge may be located on the concave side of the first portion and or second portion. The flat portion the gripping portion and the bulge may be provided along the entire length of the connection element. The flat portion the gripping portion and the bulge may be provided to ensure that there is a three-point contact grip via the bulge, the flat portion and the gripping portion to the wall side receiving member and to the unit side receiving member, in order to maintain stability and to take up the forces F, and any momentum resulting from the wall hung unit.
In one embodiment, the first and the second portion may be parted by a symmetry line which runs through a center of the connection element. The second portion may be an identical mirror image of the first portion. This is an advantage since the connection element may be used at any end. Also, this means that the wall side receiving member and the unit side receiving member may have a substantially identical cross sectional shape. This makes the detachable mounting arrangement versatile and any of the parts may be used with the connection member.
In one embodiment, the arc may extend across a part of a circle at an arc angle. The arc angle may not be more than 180 degrees. An angle of 180 degrees or less may make the installation easier and the distribution of forces along the connection element in a suitable way.
In one embodiment, the arc extends across a part of an oval.
In one embodiment, the wall side receiving member may be an elongated groove having a length and a uniform cross section along its length. This is an advantage since a wall hung unit may be placed anywhere along the groove. This makes the solution versatile and may be fitted to any need.
In one embodiment, the unit side receiving member may be an elongated groove having a uniform cross section along its length. In this way, the connection element may be placed anywhere along the wall hung unit.
In one embodiment, the detachable mounting arrangement further may comprise an elongated wall profile adapted to be arranged on a wall. The elongated wall profile may comprise the wall side receiving member. The elongated groove may be arranged along the entire length of the elongated wall profile. In that way, it may be possible to arrange an elongated wall profile to a wall, and place the wall hung unit anywhere along that wall profile. This may be particularly useful in RV-vehicles and camper wagons, where the space may be on the short side. For instance, a table may be stored away, and only mounted when to be used. Further, there may be a number of elongated wall profiles arranged at different levels, so shelving units, baskets or the like may be arranged on a suitable height only when needed.
In one embodiment, the detachable mounting arrangement may further comprise an elongated unit mounting profile adapted to be arranged on a wall hung unit. The elongated unit mounting profile may comprise the unit side receiving member. In this way a versatile solution may be provided. Further, the unit side receiving member may be identical to the wall side receiving member. In that way, the connection element may be used to any side. Also, by using an identical elongated unit profile and elongated wall profile, manufacturing costs may be kept lower since it does not require different tooling.
The elongated wall profile may be arranged onto the surface of the wall. In this way, the elongated wall profile may be arranged to any wall without any preparations.
The elongated wall profile may be arranged in a milled groove within the wall. In that way, the wall and the elongated wall profile may be flush and the wall may stay substantially flat. The milled groove may be rectangle shape in order to fit a rectangle shaped wall profile. This may provide a nearly invisible mounting arrangement.
The elongated unit profile may be arranged in a milled groove within the wall hung unit. In that way, the surface of the wall hung unit and the elongated unit profile may be flush. The milled groove may be rectangle shape in order to fit a rectangle shaped unit profile. This may provide a nearly invisible mounting arrangement. Even more so if this is arranged to the flush type wall profile as well.
Another aspect of the invention is to provide a method for installing a detachable mounting arrangement to a wall hung unit and a wall. The detachable mounting arrangement comprises a wall side receiving member configured to be arranged to a wall, and a connection element. At least a part of the connection element is configured to be received in the wall side receiving member, and arranged to the wall hung unit The connection element comprises at least a first portion which is configured to be at least partially received in the wall side receiving member and having a cross sectional shape that corresponds to at least a part of the cross sectional shape of the wall side receiving member. The cross sectional shape of the first portion is an arc. The method comprises the steps of providing a wall side receiving member. The wall side receiving member being arranged to a wall. Further providing a wall hung unit. The wall hung unit comprises a unit side receiving member. Further providing a connection element. Further inserting, a first portion of the connection element in the wall side receiving member so that, when installed, a far end of the first portion is arranged in the wall receiving member at a vertically higher level than any other part of the first portion of the connection element. The installation may be done from the front, by inserting the connection element into the wall side receiving member by a movement similar to the shape of the connection element.
In one embodiment, the detachable mounting unit may further comprise a unit side receiving member arranged to the wall hung unit, and the unit side receiving member may be configured to receive a second portion of the connection element. A cross sectional shape of the unit side receiving member may correspond to at least a part of the cross sectional shape of the second portion. The method may thus further comprise the step of inserting a second portion of the connection element in the unit side receiving member so that, when installed, a far end of the second portion may be arranged in the unit receiving member at a vertically higher level than any other part of the second portion of the connection element.
Another aspect of the invention is to provide a shelving system comprising a detachable mounting arrangement. Description of Embodiments
The present invention will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which preferred embodiments of the invention are shown. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art. In the drawings, like numbers refer to like elements.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, there can be seen a detachable mounting arrangement 100 according to an embodiment of the invention. The
detachable mounting arrangement 100 comprises an elongated wall profile 21 . The elongated wall profile 21 has a longitudinal length L. The elongated wall profile 21 is configured to be arranged horizontally on a wall, with a wall facing side 22 arranged towards the wall and the longitudinal length L extending in the horizontal direction. The elongated wall profile 21 comprises a wall side receiving member 2, which is in the shape of an arc shaped slot. The arc is configured to receive a connection element 1 . The connection element 1 shown in Fig. 1 is a piece which has a length and a uniform cross section in the shape of an arc. The connection element in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a first 15 and a second portion 16. The first portion 15 is
configured to be received in the wall side receiving member 2. The
detachable mounting arrangement 100 further comprises an elongated unit profile 31 , which is configured to be arranged on a wall hung unit 30, see e.g. Fig. 8 and Fig. 15. The elongated unit profile 31 comprises a unit side
receiving member 3 configured to receive the second portion 16 of the connection element. In Figs. 1 and 2, the first portion 15 and the second portion 16 are mirror images and identical. In that way, it does not matter which way the connection element 1 is turned. The first portion 15 also fits in the unit side receiving member, and vice versa. This type of detachable mounting arrangement 100 may be suitable for modules. For instance, in some usage areas there may be a number of elongated wall profiles 21 installed on different heights. Further, there may be a number of different wall hung units 30, such as shelves, tables, hanging racks etc., which may be arranged to the available wall profiles 21 , and using the same type of connection element 1 . Also, this solution requires no additional fastening from screws. The elongated wall profile 21 comprises a first contact surface 23, see Fig. 5, and the elongated unit profile 31 comprises a second contact surface 33, see Fig. 8. When the connection element is fully installed in the wall side receiving unit and the unit side receiving unit, the first and second contact surfaces may be in contact with each other and serve as a load bearing portion for the load of a wall hung unit and any load put there upon. The elongated wall profile 21 in Figs. 1 and 2 has an elongated recess 25. The elongated recess 25 may have a 90-degree angle configured to correspond to the angle of a corner of a wall hung unit 3. The 90-degree recess may function as a hinge when a top edge of a shelf is pressed into the center of this recess. This contact may then serve as a guide when the elongated unit profile 31 is to be slid onto the connection member 1 .
Referring now to Figs. 3 and 4, there is shown a connection element 1 . The connection element 1 has a length L1 and a cross sectional shape in the form of an arc. The arc extends at an arc angle a. Generally, the arc angle a is not more than 180 degrees. This is since the installation may be facilitated if the arc angle is kept under 180 degrees. However, if needed, the arc angle a could be done bigger. At least this may be possible if the first portion 15 and the second portion 16 are not identical. There is a possibility that the cross sectional shape of the connection element 1 is not symmetric, and that the first portion 15 and the second portion 16 are different from each other. The
connection element 1 has, on each of the first and the second portions, a respective bulge 152, 162. This bulge is provided to ensure grip within the wall side receiving member 2 and the unit side receiving member 3.
Furthermore, as can be more clearly seen in Fig. 4, there is a flat portion 154, 164 at the lower part of the center of the arc. The flat portion 154, 164 is part of a thickening 155, 156. Further, at the respective far ends 151 , 161 , there is a gripping portion 153, 163. The gripping portion 153, 163 may also have a thickening. The flat portion 154, 164, the gripping portion 153, 63 and the bulge 153, 162 are provided to ensure that there is a three-point contact grip via the bulge 152, the flat portion 153 and 154 to the elongated wall profile 21 and via 162, 163 and 164 to the elongated unit profile 31 or vice versa, in order to maintain stability and to take up the forces F, and any momentum resulting from the wall hung unit (illustrated with arrow F).
The arc shape is intentional. By forming the connection element 1 in this way, any force obtained from the wall hung unit may be transferred along the connection element 1 towards the center 10. Any forces are thereby transferred towards the center 10 from both ends of the connection element 1 . The connection element 1 has a thickness T1 , T2. The thickness may vary across the cross section. For example, the thickness may be bigger in the center in order to ensure the load is carried. The thickness T1 at a far end 151 , 161 of the first or second portion 15, 16 may thus be smaller than the thickness T2 in the center. The connection element 1 has a length L1 . The length L1 can be as long or as short as needed. The length L1 can thus be provided to suit the specific need. It may thus be between 0,5-2 cm long. In these cases, two or more connection elements 1 may be needed to mount the wall hung unit 30 to the wall. An exception may be if there is a small wall hung unit 30 to be mounted, such as a basket or a hook, in case only one connection element may be needed. Also, there may be more than one connection element 1 required to mount a shelf depending on the size of the shelf and the load to be carried. The length L1 of the connection element may further be adapted to run along the entire length of the shelf, table, or any chosen wall hung unit 30. The connection element 1 may be an extruded
profile. It may further be an extruded aluminum profile. Alternatively, the connection element 1 may be cast, sintered or any manufactured in any other suitable way.
Figs. 5 and 6 show an elongated wall profile 21 . The elongated wall profile 21 comprises a wall facing side 22 configured to be arranged towards a wall 20. The elongated wall profile 21 is mostly suited to be arranged horizontally on the wall 20. The elongated wall profile 21 has a length L2, which may be as long as required. In some embodiments, the length may be across an entire wall in order to allow for flexible mounting of a shelf or some other wall hung unit. The elongated wall profile 21 has a wall side receiving member 2, which has a shape that corresponds to the shape of the
connection element 1 to be received therein. In Fig. 6, the cross sectional shape of the wall side receiving member 2 is an arc. The elongated wall profile 21 in Fig. 6 may be arranged to the wall using fasteners, such as screws. It is possible to use this type of elongated as a unit profile as well. The elongated profiles described herein may be extruded profiles which may be cut in any length. Further, the profiles may be extruded aluminum profiles. Alternatively, the profiles may be cast, sintered or manufactured in any other suitable way.
Referring now to Figs. 7 and 8, there is shown a type of elongated profile. This elongated profile may be used both as a wall profile 21 and as a unit profile 31 . From here on, this type of profile may be referred to as a unit profile 31 or elongated unit profile 31 , even though it may be equally suitable as a wall profile. This type of elongated unit profile 31 may be arranged inside a milled groove 201 such as illustrated in Fig. 8. The elongated unit profile 31 has a length L3 and a cross sectional shape which is uniform along its length L3. The unit profile has a unit side receiving member 3 which has a shape that corresponds to at least a part of the shape of the connection element 1 . The elongated unit profile 31 has, such as the elongated wall profile 21 , a contact surface 33, against which the wall profile may be in contact when installed. The contact surfaces 23, 33 serves as a force absorber from any weight put on the connection member 1 . The groove 201 may be of a size to
fit the elongated unit profile 31 , so that the contact surface 33 and the edge of the wall hung unit are flush. In that way, the wall hung unit may be arranged neatly against the wall 20. Alternatively, the unit profile may be arranged directly on the edge of a wall hung unit 30, and not arranged in a groove. There may be provided end pieces (not shown) to either of the profiles in order to prevent sharp edges. The end pieces may be provided on either end of either profile (21 , 31 ) to close any gaps and to smoothen any sharp edges. The elongated wall profile 21 and the elongated unit profile 31 may be as long or short as required.
In Figs. 9 and 10, there is shown a detachable mounting arrangement
100 according to an embodiment of the invention. The detachable mounting arrangement 100 is provided with an elongated wall profile 21 and an elongated unit profile 31 as described in Figs. 7 and 8. The profiles are thus identical to each other, and opposing. By using this type of profile on both the wall side and on the unit side, an invisible mounting arrangement may be provided since none of the profiles may be shown when installed. The wall profile 21 and the unit profile 31 may both be arranged in corresponding grooves 201 in the wall 20 and the wall hung unit 30 respectively (not shown).
Referring to Figs. 1 1 and 12, in which a connection element 1 b according to an embodiment is shown. The connection element 1 b comprises a first portion 15 to be arranged in a wall side receiving member 2 or a unit side receiving member 3. From here on, in this type of connection element 1 b will be described as to be connected to a wall side receiving member 2. It may however be equally suitable for connection to the unit side receiving member 3. This connection element 1 b comprises a flat unit facing side 32 which is configured to be arranged against a side of a wall hung unit 30. The wall hung unit 30 may thus be arranged directly to the wall side receiving member 2. This solution may be suitable when there is no need or desire to use loose connection elements 1 which comprises both a first 15 and a second portion 16.
Figs. 13 and 14 shows schematically a way to install the connection detachable mounting arrangement 100. First, there is provided an elongated
wall profile 21 , readily arranged on a wall. The elongated wall profile 21 may either be of a type that is arranged within a milled groove, similar to the unit profile in Fig. 8, or the type arranged directly on a wall 20, as shown in Fig .1 . In order to mount a wall hung unit 30, the connection element 1 may be inserted into the wall side receiving member 2 of the wall profile 21 . In Figs. 13 and 14, the connection element 1 is inserted from the front of the wall profile 21 . However, it may be equally suitable to slide the connection element 1 from the side into the wall side receiving member 2. In the same way, it may be equally suitable to slide the connection element 1 from the side into the unit side receiving member 3. The connection element 1 may be inserted as far as possible, until a far end 151 of the first portion 15 bottoms within the wall side receiving member 2. Further, as shown in Fig. 14, a wall hung unit (not shown) having an elongated unit profile 31 may be provided. The unit side receiving member 3 may be arranged over the inserted connection element 1 until a far end 161 of the second portion 16 bottoms within the unit receiving member 3, and the contact surface of the wall profile and the unit profile are, or almost are, in contact with each other. Possibly, more than one connection element 1 may be required. Alternatively, the length L1 of the connection element 1 may be long enough so that only one connection element 1 may be provided.
Fig. 15 schematically illustrates a possibility that the wall side receiving member 2 and the unit side receiving member may be provided directly in the wall and/or wall hung unit. Possibly, either of the receiving members may only be adapted to fit a single connection element 1 . To clarify, the wall receiving member 2 and the unit receiving member 3 may have a length L2, L3 that corresponds to the length L1 of the connection element 1 .
Figs. 16 and 17 are examples of usage areas for a detachable mounting arrangement 100 according to an embodiment of the invention. In Fig. 16, there is illustrated a shelving unit 4. As seen, with this type of connection, no fixed consoles may be needed.
Fig. 17 is a table 5 with three detachable shelves where each table joint comprises a detachable mounting arrangement 100 as described in Fig.
9 and Fig. 10. The table can be further enlarged by assembling more shelves in the horizontal plane by using the detachable mounting arrangement visualized by Fig. 9 and Fig. 10. The table 5 is mounted at one end using the detachable mounting arrangement 100. At the other end it has a pair of legs in order to provide additional stability. The legs may be detachable and/or telescopic in order to facilitate storage. By using the detachable mounting arrangement 100, the table 5 may be stored away and taken out only when needed.
