Definitions
- diabetes is a prevalent disease which is categorized in two different types:
- Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease and the main problem of people with Type 1 diabetes is the shortage of insulin.
- Our purpose for designing this device is to monitor the blood sugar level of the patients as well as the injection of insulin with the least error rate.
- the devices used for insulin delivery include U - 100 syringes.
- One of the most common errors in this device is the precise draw up of insulin from the vial and the accurate way of injecting.
- the other modern device used is known as Insulin prefilled pens one of the problems of which is not being used by the elderlies whose eyesight is weakened by diabetes.
- the other form of insulin drug is the inhaled insulin which is not available in Iran.
- This microsystem is the same size as an ordinary plaster and installing it on the body is as easy as a plaster. Sampling by sweat is conducted by the help of a thin touch kit; this invention has already been patented in the U.S with the patent number of US 2013/0053668.
- the micro controller orders injecting insulin with the number of units required for the patient.
- the insulin already embedded in the micro system is injected to the patient through the microneedle.
- the possibility of delivering several accurate injections from this micro system is predicated and its number is variable. But the ideal number is six injections during two days. Afterwards, a new micro system must be installed on the body of the patient.
- FIG. 1 is the schematic diagram of the microsystem
- FIG. 2 is the diagram of the internal parts of central section
- FIG. 3 is the bottom diagram of central section
- FIG. 4 is the diagram of function of injector Detailed description of the drawings
- a schematic diagram of the microsystem is seen which is composed of two sections: The external transparent section 1 which is as transparent as a plaster.
- the blood sugar detection sensor by the sweat 2 is installed at a little distance from the external section.
- the central section 3 is the one in which other pieces of the system is installed.
- FIG. 2 the parts of central section are observed.
- a micro battery 4 is installed to supply the energy required for the system and the micro controller 5 is responsible for the function of the system.
- This function includes receiving the data of blood sugar detection sensor, data analysis, and giving injection order to the microneedles if required.
- the other part includes microneedle 6 which is made of different subparts.
- a mobile piece which has a hole on one side is on the chassis 10.
- the other side of the mobile piece covers the hole of the chassis in the primary mode to avoid any kind of exchange through the needle.
- the last piece is insulin storage 11 which is installed on the mobile piece.
- the microcontroller activates electromagnet.
- the magnet is activated, the mobile piece is attracted toward the magnet and therefore its hole matches on the hole of stable piece. Consequently, the passage of insulin entry into the body through the micro needle is opened and the content of insulin storage is evacuated.
