Definitions
- This invention relates to an ostomy appliance with venting component for controlled release of waste gases - flatus from post-surgical abdominal wall colostomy or ileostomy.
- a filter - odor removing element WO 2011/150937.
- the filter contains a deodorizing element and has an extension.
- the latter is with a gas-inlet portion with numerous gas-inlets across the surface of the extension.
- US 2007/0270772 offer another solution - manual operation of an exhaust vent , in the upper section of the bag .
- Sealing lock operation can be used to open a passage inside the collecting bag such that flatus gasses may pass through a filter, which is protected prior to opening of the passage such that it is not contaminated.
- an Ostomy Appliance with Venting Component comprising: collecting bag, wafer, and bag empting opening with fixing unit.
- Said collecting bag having outside rim seam and inside rim seam shaping up a gas channel with an inlet in the upper part of the collecting bag and an outlet in side part, mounted in which is the inlet part of gas tube, with a gas valve, normally closed, mounted to the other end of the gas tube, whereby the content of the collecting bag is sealed off.
- Gas tube is mounted along the valve axis and its outlet end is close to slits, thus there is a passage in valve available in case of its deformation due to finger pressure.
- pressure valve slits stay open, overcoming elasticity forces keeping slits closed.
- a filter with inlet sleeve to elongated body replaces valve; at the opposite end of sleeve are outlets, adequately small to prevent passage of chemical filter substance in its body, securing free gas passage.
- two versions of gas channel are possible - output on the right-hand side towards the bag axis (colostomy typically on the left-hand side of user's body) or symmetrically opposite position.
- the space position of the valve defined via a varied length gas tube, in respect of the collecting bag, makes it possible to keep the valve in place under, between or even above clothing of users where its handling is most convenient, discrete and small size as it is.
- Functioning as high-pressure valve it secures bag's not separating from body or wafer in case of inadmissible pressure, due to unintended bag deformation.
- Specific design of the valve ensures functioning of the appliance in case of blocking of gas passage by intestine content - in every manual activation of the valve, at initial deformation of it, before slits open, extra-pressure in gas line to pressure in the bag, pushing content back into it.

- Ostomy Appliance with Venting Component typical colostomy application (Fig. 1), made up of: collecting bag 1, with body wafer 2 fixed to it, in the nether part of which (user's body standing posture) is bag empting opening with fixing unit 3.
- Outside rim seam 4 closes left, upper, and half of right side of bag.
- Inside rim seam 5 starts from upper part of bag, inside equidistant from outside rim seam 4, shaping up gas channel with inlet in upper part of collecting bag and outlet in middle right part of it.
- Inlet part of gas tube 7 is mounted to outlet of gas channel 6.
- Gas valve 8 is mounted at nether side of gas tube 7, shown normally off, content in bag isolated from ambient.
