Abstract

A method of determining the number or concentration of molecules in a sample, a method of tracking a substance in a reaction or system, and applications of such methods. Use of nucleic acid as a tracer. The methods of determining the number or concentration involves either modifying the molecules with random oligonucleotide tags to create modified molecules which differ from each other; or taking a sample which is of such a small size that molecules in the sample will be different.
