Description
DESCRIPTION
LID FOR POT
The present invention concerns a pot or pan lid for heating and preparing dishes.
Pot or pan lids are known comprising a continuous cover wall having a peripheral edge suitable to contact-engage an upper edge of a pot or of a pan to position the lid so as to close the pot or the pan and a handgrip member coupled to the cover wall to facilitate hand gripping of the lid itself.
Known lids have the drawback of preventing or of at least greatly hindering the operations of mixing, moving and handling in general of the dishes inside the pot or pan. Indeed, in order to access the pot, it is necessary to remove the lid and to hold it or rest it on a work top with the result of having only one hand free to handle the dish, undesired dripping and dirtying and a high exposure of the user to hot steam, cooking smells and splashing of boiling fats and liquids, as well as an overcooling of the dish due to a complete opening of the pot.
In order to avoid some of the difficulties mentioned, some users try to uncover the pot only partially resting and holding the lid "balancing" on only one side of the pot with the risk of the lid falling and
the hands of the user getting burnt.
The purpose of the present invention is therefore that of proposing a pot and pan lid having characteristics such as to at least partially avoid the drawbacks mentioned with reference to the prior art.
In the main purpose, one particular purpose of the invention is to propose a lid that allows an easy handling of the dish with both hands.
A further ' particular purpose of the invention is to provide a lid that allows a partial opening of the pot without any risk of falling of the lid itself and that makes it possible to keep both hands of the user free.
These and other purposes are achieved by means of a pot or pan lid according to claim 1.
The dependent claims concern advantageous embodiments.
According to the invention, the pot or pan lid comprises a' cover wall having a peripheral edge suitable to contact-engage an upper edge of a pot or of a pan so as to close it and a handgrip to facilitate the hand gripping of the lid, in which the cover wall comprises a cover ring which delimits an access opening and at least one shutter coupled to the cover ring in a moveable manner between a closed
position in which it closes the access opening and an open position in which it frees the access opening and in which the handgrip comprises a grip handle and locking means and it is coupled to the shutter in a moveable manner between a locking position, in which the locking means lock the shutter in the closed position, and a release position, in which the locking means release the shutter, allowing a movement thereof- in the open position.
This allows the access opening to be opened, closed and allows the whole lid to be gripped by a single hand and by acting upon a single handgrip.
In order to better understand the invention and appreciate its advantages, in the rest of the description we shall describe some embodiments given as an example and not for limiting purposes, with reference to the figures, in which:

- figure 3A is a side view of the lid in figure 1°, in which an anti-splash mesh is in the half-open position;
- figure 4 is a side view of the lid in figure 1 or 2, in which the shutters are closed;
- figure 5 is a top view of the lid in figure 4 in the release configuration;
- figure 6 is a top view of the lid in figure 4 in locked configuration;
- figure 7 is a section view of a hinge of the lid according to one embodiment;
- figure 8 is a section view of an edge of the lid according to one embodiment;
- figure 9 is a perspective view of a detail for coupling a shutter to an anti-splash mesh of the lid according to one embodiment .
With reference to the figures, a pot or pan lid is wholly indicated with reference numeral 1 (hereafter the term "pot" shall indicate all types of cooking containers of the pot, pan type etc., that can be closed with a lid) .
The lid 1 comprises a cover wall 2 having a peripheral edge 3 suitable to contact-engage an upper edge of a pot 32 to close it and a handgrip 4 to facilitate the hand gripping of the lid 1. The cover
wall comprises a cover ring 5 which delimits an access opening 6 and at least one shutter 7, 8 coupled to the cover ring 5 in a moveable manner between a closed position, in which it closes the access opening 5, and an open position, in which it frees the access opening 5. The handgrip 4 comprises a grip handle 9 and locking means 10 and it is coupled to the shutter 7 in a moveable manner between a locking position, in which the locking means 10 lock the shutter 7, 8 in the closed position, and a release position, in which the locking means 10 release the shutter 7, 8, allowing a movement thereof in the open position.
This makes it possible to easily and comfortably handle the dish through the access opening, to easily open and close the access opening, as well as to grip the shutter or the entire lid with a single hand and acting upon a single handgrip.
In accordance with one embodiment, the cover wall 2 comprises a first shutter 7 coupled to which is the handgrip 4 and a second shutter 8 coupled to which is a secondary handgrip 11 having a hand grip portion 12 so as to facilitate the manual opening and closing thereof .
Advantageously, the handgrip 4 can comprise a hook portion 10 (that forms the aforementioned locking
means 10) configured in a manner such as to engage, in the closed position of the shutters 7, 8 and in the locking position of the handgrip 4, a corresponding counter-hook portion 13 formed in the secondary handgrip 11 of the second shutter 8.
Preferably, the hook portion 10 is formed in a single piece with the grip handle 9 and also the counter-hook portion is formed in a single piece with the grip portion 12 and both the handgrip 4 and the secondary handgrip 11 are advantageously manufactured from heat insulating material, for example plastic.
In accordance with a further embodiment, with the shutters 7, 8 positioned in the closed position and with the handgrip 4 positioned in the locking position, the grip handle 9 is substantially positioned at (and exactly above) the geometric centre 14 of the cover wall 2, with reference to the position of use of the lid resting on the pot 32.
In accordance with a further embodiment, the shutter 7 or the shutters 7, 8 are configured in a manner such as to be withheld in the open position and such as to be moveable from the open position to the closed position by means of a manual movement. In particular, the shutters 7, 8 are withheld in the open position thanks to the force of gravity, to a snap-engagement
or to friction.
This obviates the need to hold the lid 1 or the shutters 7, 8 in hand while the dish is being handled. Advantageously, the lid 1 also comprises an anti- splash mesh 15 coupled to the cover ring 5 and moveable between a closed position, in which the anti- splash mesh 15 covers the access opening 6, and an open position, in which it frees the access opening 6. This allows the user to aerate the dish in the pot through the opening of the shutters 7, 8 and, at the same time, it allows splashing of fats or hot liquid to be avoided through the closure of the anti-splash mesh 15.
The cover ring 5 can substantially be circular, oval or rectangular and it is preferably but not necessarily rounded with the lower concave surface 16 facing towards a lower side 17 of the lid 1 (pot 32 side in the position of use) and an upper convex surface 18, opposite to the lower surface 16 and facing towards an upper side 19 of the lid 1 (side opposite to the pot 32) .
The two shutters 7, 8 can be hinged to the cover ring 5 at two positions diametrically opposite and advantageously have a substantially semi-circular shape, preferably but not necessarily rounded with an
upper convex surface 20 facing towards the upper side 19 and substantially flush with the upper surface 18 of the cover ring 5. The shutters 7, 8 are configured so as to be able to be opened towards the upper side 19 and have an outer support edge 21 configured so as to abut (in the closed position) against a stop portion 22 of an inner edge 23 of the cover ring 5 which delimits the access opening 6.
The handgrip 4 can comprise a base portion 24 preferably in the shape of a spherical dome, coupled to the first shutter 7 in a rotating manner around an axis 28 and equipped with a groove 25 circumferential to the axis 28 and having an insertion section 26 that extends to a stop seat 27 that is widened with respect to the width of the insertion section 26. The secondary handgrip 11 preferably comprises a stem 29 coupled to the second shutter 8 in a position such as to be able to be accommodated in the groove 25 of the handgrip 4 when the latter is rotated in the locking position, as well as a head 30 widened with respect to the stem 29 and suitable to be snap-received in the stop seat 27 and, preferably, to form the aforementioned hand grip portion 12.
The grip handle 9 can advantageously be arc-shaped and extend transversely to the rotation axis 28 of the
handgrip 4, so as to easily be able to grasp the lid or the shutter and turn the handgrip to lock ox- release the shutters 7, 8.
The anti-splash mesh 15 can comprise two portions 31 hinged to the cover ring 5 on the lower side 17 of the shutters 7, 8 intended to be directed towards the pot 32, preferably equipped with a hand grip portion 33, and able to be opened towards the upper side 19 of the lid 1.
In accordance with one advantageous embodiment, the shutters 7, 8 are releasably coupled to the cover ring 5, in particular by means of a hinge seat 34 in the form of an elastic clip that can be snap-engaged on the pin 35 of the hinge itself, as illustrated in figure 7.
In accordance with one embodiment (Figure 7), the lid 1 comprises sealing strips 39 coupled to the shutters 7, 8 at the hinges 36 and configured so as to close an interstice between the hinge 36 and the cover ring 5. Preferably, the sealing strips 39 substantially extend along the entire length of the hinge 36 and can lie tightly, with the shutter 7, 8 closed, on the inner surface (facing towards the pot) of the cover ring 5. It is also advantageous to position the hinge 36 along a secant to the circumference of the edge of the
shutter 7, 8 so as to increase the coupling length between the shutter 7, 8 and the cover ring 5.
Advantageously, the hinge 36 between the shutter 7, 8 and the cover ring 5 comprises a single pin with a central portion 36A for the rotating coupling of the anti-splash mesh 15, as well as two side portions 36B adjacent to the central portion 36A for the rotating coupling of the shutter 7, 8 or vice versa, as illustrated in figure 6.
This makes it possible to reduce the number of single pieces to be assembled and concentrates the rotating coupling space between the cover ring 5 and the shutter 7, 8 and the anti-splash mesh 15 on a single rotation axis.
In accordance with a further embodiment, the shutters 7, 8 have a gutter portion 37 the cross section of which is U-shaped and extends along the outer edges of the shutters 7, 8 to covey the condensate and cooking liquids into the pot and to prevent uncontrolled dripping.
Figure 9 illustrates a further embodiment, in which it is foreseen for there to be snap-coupling elastic means 38, for example a flat spring bent at an angle or having two L-shaped portions coupled to one another, fixed to the lid 7, 8 and configured so as to
snap-engage and snap-release an engagement edge of the anti-splash mesh 15.
This facilitates the coupling and the decoupling of the anti-splash mesh with respect to the shutter.
The lid 1 according to the invention has numerous advantages'. In particular, it facilitates the operations of mixing, moving and handling in general of the dishes inside the pot. In particular, the lid 1 makes it possible to act with two hands free avoiding undesired dripping and dirtying and makes it possible to avoid a high exposure of the user to hot steam, cooking smells and splashing of boiling fats and liquids. Last, but not least, the lid 1 allows a controlled aeration of the dish, avoiding both the risk of splashing of liquids and an overcooling of the dish due to a complete opening of the pot.
