Description
A METHOD FOR APPLYING A COATING ON A SURFACE TO BE DECORATED. IN PARTICULAR A WALL. A CEILING OR A FLOOR
TECHNICAL FIELD
A method for applying a coating on a surface to be decorated, in particular a wall, a ceiling or a floor.
BACKGROUND ART
The prior art contains various methods for applying paints on walls and ceilings which after drying exhibit irregular patterns in relief, which project according to the nature and type of the paints used.
A like decorative effect is achieved by the use of tools, such as rollers, sponges or spatulas, on surfaces which have been pre-treated with suitable products.
A further known method comprises application by spatula of a layer of acrylic plaster on a smooth and uniform surface, and a subsequent impressing thereon, either locally or all over, using a curved tool bearing a predetermined impression.
With the known methods, however, it is not possible to obtain relief decorations that are precise and homogeneous on relatively large surfaces.
The precision of the prior art applications in fact depends on the experience and/or manual ability of the operator and is strongly influenced by the size of the surface to be decorated,
The final decoration cannot therefore be precise and perfect due to the high manual component of the work stages.
This means that work is extremely long and laborious and also requires the intervention of able and expert craftspersons.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The aim of the present invention is to obviate the above-cited drawbacks by providing a method for applying a coating on a surface to be decorated, in particular a wall, a ceiling or a floor, which enables a final decorative effect to be achieved which is particularly aesthetically pleasing, with work stages that are extremely simple and intuitive.
A further aim of the present invention consists in providing a method for applying a coating, smooth and/or in relief, realisable by any operator, even an inexperienced one.
The above-indicated aims are obtained with the contents of the claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The characteristics of the invention will better emerge in the following description, in which some preferred but not exclusive embodiments are described, with reference to the accompanying tables of the drawings, in which figures from 1 to 10 schematically illustrate plan views of some variants of perforated templates, which enable the method to be actuated.
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The method for application of a coating on a surface to be decorated, in particular a wall, a ceiling or a floor, in the general actuation modes thereof, comprises following operating stages:
•positioning at least a first series of perforated templates on the surface to be
decorated, having complementary profiles and being placed side by side such to uniformly cover at least a portion of and preferably a whole surface to be decorated;
applying, on an upper portion of the first templates, a fluid substance of predetermined viscosity and chromatic shade, for example liquid or pasty, which reaches the surface to be decorated by passing through the perforated areas of the templates, the fluid substance being applicable for example by means of a brush or spatula;
removing the first series of templates from the surface to be decorated in order to realize a first graphic pattern, which is flat or raised.
The above stages can obviously be repeated for a plurality of perforated templates, after removal of which a same number of graphic patterns can be identified, which appropriately superpose one another.
The perforated templates can be adequately shaped such as to obtain final coatings that are smooth or in relief, which call to mind, by way of example, jungle and/or forest motifs, such as for example elephants, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, tigers, leopards, snakes and even tree bark.
In the case of animals, a significant portion or a whole thereof can be repeatedly reproduced, identifying various zones (back, legs, side view of midriff) as represented for example in figures 9, 10.
To realise the above the mentioned operating stages can advantageously be integrated with the supplementary stages related herein below, such as to obtain a varied range of final decorations.
In particular, in a further embodiment, the first templates can be pre- positioned, at least a base coating applied, usually known as a primer, having a predetermined chromatic shade on the surface to be decorated. The base layer can be white or another shade.
Following removal of the first series of templates, application can already be
made, for example by brush and/or sponge, of at least a layer of paint of a predetermined shade on the obtained surface to be decorated,
In soma cases, before the application of the paint, application can be advantageously made, for example with a brush, of at least a further primer coat in order to guarantee maximum adherence of the paint thereafter applied on the surface to be decorated.
In a further embodiment, independently of any application of the further base layer, after the application of the coating of paint further application can be made on the surface to be decorated, for example with a brush, of at least a coat of protective paint, preferably transparent or having a chromatic shade which is compatible with the previously-applied coat of paint.
In other cases, after application of the base coat, and before in any case the positioning of the first templates, one or more coats of transparent film of reactive substance can be applied on the surface to be decorated, followed by the application of at least a coat of crackle paint of a predetermined chromatic shade, able to react chemically with the transparent film previously applied in order to obtain a crackle effect.
Following application of the coat of crackle paint, and before the positioning of the first templates, one or more further coats of transparent film of reagent substance can be applied, which can react chemically with the liquid or pasty fluid substance, advantageously crackle paint, applied on the upper part of the first templates after the positioning thereof, such as to achieve the crackle effect.
In any case after removal of the first series of templates, at least a coat of protective paint can be applied, for example by brush, which protective paint is preferably transparent or of a chromatic shade which is compatible with the liquid or pasty fluid substance.
In a further embodiment, following removal of the first series of templates, and in any case before the application of the protective paint, the following can be
comprised:
positioning on the thus-obtained surface to be decorated of at least a second series of perforated templates having complementary profiles, which are placed side by side (possibly partially superposed at edges thereof) in order to 5 uniformly cover at least a portion, preferably the whole surface to be decorated, thus obtained;
applying, on the upper portion of the second templates, a fluid substance having a predetermined viscosity and chromatic shade, possibly of a crackle type, which is destined to reach the surface to be decorated through the ] 0 perforated areas of the second templates;
removing the second series of templates from the surface to be decorated in order to realize a second graphic pattern, which is flat or raised.
An interesting supplementary stage, especially indicated for surfaces to be decorated constituted by stairs or floors, comprises a final self-levelling IS application of a coat of paint, preferably transparent acrylic or epoxy, such as to obtain a final smooth decorated surface that is shiny and resistant to abrasion and/or trampling.
In the following, some applications of the method of the Invention are described, all aimed at obtaining final surfaces which are smooth or in relief,0 which recall jungle and/or forest themes, such as for example elephants, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, tigers, leopards, snakes and tree bark.
Example no. 1 - Elephant/crocodlla/tree bark.
The final effect of the covering evoking an elephant's skin (or a crocodile's, or tree bark) is obtained with the following steps: 5 1) application of a white or coloured base coat on the wall to be decorated;
2) positioning, on the wall to be decorated, a series of perforated templates 1 , 2, 3, each like those illustrated respectively in figures 1 , 2, 3, having
complementary profiles and being flanked to one another such as to uniformly cover the whole wall to be decorated;

Example no. 5.
In the case of application of the decoration on stairs and floors, on conclusion of the steps relating to each of the above-indicated examples, a final application has to be made of a serf-levelling layer of at least a coat of paint, preferably transparent acrylic or epoxy, such as to obtain a final decorated surface that is smooth, shiny and resistant to abrasion and/or trampling.
From the above it is simple to comprehend how the proposed method for applying a covering on a surface to be decorated, in particular a wall, celling or floor, enables a final decorative effect to be obtained which is of particularly pleasant aesthetic appearance, with extremely simple and intuitive steps.
The surface to be decorated can be realised in cement, plasterboard, wood, plaster, plastic, glass, metal, preferably free of moisture,
The covering obtained, regardless of the type, smooth and/or in relief, can be realised by any operator, even one who has had no previous experience.
The method of the invention enables obtaining decorations in relief that are particular precise and homogeneous on relatively large surfaces, such as for example walls, ceilings, floors or stairs.
The precision of the decorations does not exclusively rely on the experience and/or the manual abilities of the operators; the decorations can also be faithfully reproduced on even large surfaces.
The quality and precision of the final decorations are guaranteed by the use of appropriate templates having complementary profiles and being positioned flanked to one another such as to uniformly cover preferably the whole surface to be decorated.
In this way the stages of working in order to obtain the final decorations are extremely simple and rapid, and require no ability on the part of the operators.
The templates are advantageously provided with protective film of the glue layer which must be removed by the users before application on the surface to be decorated.
