Abstract

The present invention relates to an environmentally-friendly engineering method for purifying polluted river water using the force of gravity, and to a powerless water gate operating system for same, which involve slightly lifting the lower portion of a water gate when water is stored in a water reservoir with the water gate standing upright, to preferentially discharge water of a hypolimnion layer stored by the water gate and to thus discharge contaminants such as sludge from the bottom of a river together with the water being discharged, thereby naturally purifying polluted river water.
