Abstract

The invention relates to mechanically processing sheet, roll or composite materials, in particular, to means for mechanically shaping a material without removal thereof, namely to the structural design of the rotary embossing cylinders which can be used for producing packing materials, wall-paper etc. The aim of the invention is to accelerate the process for producing a rotary embossing cylinder, since the used tool is designed in the form of electrodes which are easily produced and have an extended service life in comparison with cutting tools. The cylinder produced according to the inventive method has projections of different shape, thereby making it possible to extend the range of functionalities thereof. The method for producing a rotary embossing cylinder involves forming a contoured surface by means of projections which alternate at a specified pitch in the longitudinal and transverse directions and narrow and/or do not narrow towards the top, and grooves. The contoured surface is formed on the surface of a cylindrical blank by machining it in a transverse direction by means of a cutting tool, and the longitudinal grooves are made by electroerosion or electrochemical processing, wherein the pitch of the projections in the longitudinal and transverse directions can be constant or variable.
