Abstract

The invention relates to a method for controlling a cooktop (11) having an empty burner detector as a protection against an empty burner at a cooking location, wherein the temperature of the cooking location (14) is detected. For the empty burner detector, exceeding a specific limit value for temperature increase at the cooking location (14) within a short time causes the power to be switched off. After each switch procedure or operation of the cooktop (11), a timer (18) is started again in a cooktop controller (17) and, depending on the elapsed time captured by the timer (18) since each start thereof, the limit value for temperature increase is modified such that as the time increases, the limit value is reduced for the temperature increase for triggering the empty burner detector by switching off the power.
