Abstract
The present invention relates to a digital contents player and a method for using the player for recording and reproducing the digital contents by utilizing a chip card (10). The chip card (10) contains two IC chips (20, 22) as storage mediums. The chip card (10) is input or output to a digital contents player including an exterior housing (100) with a slim outline corresponding to the size of the chip card. A connector (101 ) formed on one side of the housing (100) is electrically connected to at least one chip (22) of the chip card (10). The player includes a display panel (103) for reproducing the digital content. The digital contents player further includes a key input unit (110) for inputting a command, a control unit (120) for storing applications or data to the storage domains of at least one IC chip (22), an encryption and a decryption module (140) for encrypting and decrypting data, an output unit (150) for storing data for displaying digital contents and a communication module (160) for short-distance communication with at least one chip (20) or a server such as a finance server (200).

DIGITAL CONTENT PLAYER USING CHIP CARD AND A USAGE METHOD THEREOF
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a digital contents player and a usage method of the digital contents for recording and reproducing the digital contents by using a chip card with a standard size as a storage medium. Background Art
[2] Generally, there are various cards such as a cash card, a debit card, a prepaid card and a check card, and MS-typed cards are widely used, in which the data intrinsic to a card owner are recorded on a magnetic stripe (MS).
[3] However, as the MS-typed card involves a small volume of information storage, and above all, a structural weakness in security, the recent trend is that the MS-typed card is gradually replaced by an IC chip card.
[4] The IC chip card has a semiconductor chip mounting an IC memory and a central processing unit thereon, and makes communication with external interface terminals on the surface thereof through the electrical contacting or in a contactless manner. Compared with the MS card, the IC chip card involves a large volume of memory capacity, and various functions of security service such as coding and certification of contact objects, and data and information management, based on the CPU operation thereof.
Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[5] However, although the IC chip card involves a relatively large volume of memory capacity and excellent operation and high-level security management function characteristics when compared with the MS card, the IC chip card is liable to distort the IC chip standard according to the international standard, and to leak personal information so that it is limited in usage to the financial activity or at best to the application of a transportation card.
[6] Furthermore, as the standard IC chip of the IC chip card is programmed such that it can be read only through the card readers limited in security, and has at best an available storage capacity of 32KB, it is limited for the various applications.
[7] Recently, various application services are given from various IC chip card application service providers, however the user should own separately a storage medium to utilize such services, and the chip card that is the storage medium with high value is not used. Accordingly, there are problem such as a manufacturing cost according the
separate purchase, and the various cards, and the use of the chip card is not activated. Technical Solution
[8] The present invention has been made in an effort to provide a digital contents player and a usage method of the digital contents having advantages of using various applications through a chip card as a storage medium without distorting the built-in international standard financial chip and without worrying over the leakage of personal information.
[9] Furthermore, the present invention has been made in an effort to provide a digital contents player and a usage method of the digital contents using the chip card as the storage medium to increase the activation of the IC chip card by using the digital contents of a motion image such as audio, video, UCC.
[10] Furthermore, the present invention has been made in an effort to provide a digital contents player and a usage method of the digital contents using the chip card as the storage medium for providing an interface to promptly use the chip card-related essentials in situ with the chip card usage.
[11] A digital contents player according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes an exterior housing having an opening formed on one side surface to input and output the chip card with a standard size, and formed with a slim outline corresponding to the size of the chip card; a connector electrically connected to at least one chip having a flash memory among at leas two semiconductor chips arranged opposite to each other under the chip card; a key input unit formed on the outside surface of the exterior housing to input a command to at least one chip; a control unit controlling to store and reproduce the contents for the storage region of at least one chip according to the command; an encryption/decryption module for encrypting and decrypting the digital contents stored on the other chip under the control of the control unit; an output unit displaying the reproduced digital contents as a display panel.
Advantageous Effects
[12] Accordingly, with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the applications of various IC chip cards may be stored using a card according to the international standard so as to make usage of various digital contents of music files, moving pictures, or UCC.
[13] Also, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the chip card according to the international standard is used such that the value charging process such as the addition card purchas, the approve proceed, the point charging may be simplified, and the pay digital contents stored to the flash memory may be used.
[14] Furthermore, with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the digital contents player using the chip card as a storage medium has the slim shape enclose the

[25] Referring to FIG. 1, FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, a card 1 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is molded or mechanically made with a standard size of 85.6X54.0mm corresponding to the size of a wallet and a thickness of about 0.8mm by using an insulating substrate 10 bearing a bending characteristic of about 1.5mm or less.
[26] In this way, the card 1 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention has a predetermined size according to the international standard, and the substrate 10 of the chip card 1 is provided with at least one chip 20 that has a size of about 12.5X18mm according to the international standard as a finance chip, and at least another chip 22 having a flash memory storing various applications or data, and capable of writing and deleting digital contents of a predetermined format.
[27] As at least one of the chips 22 is a flash memory, power is not needed to maintain information therein, and to record and reproduce data.
[28] As shown in FIG. 3, grooves are formed at the substrate 10 in the thickness direction thereof, and the IC chips 20 and 22 are disposed within the grooves such that they are physically spaced apart from each other with a distance of about 40mm and completely isolated from each other. In this structure, the chips are completely insulated from each other and, as at least one of the chips 20 is programmed to be read only with a specific reader, the chips 20 and 22 do not interfere with each other while operated separately.
[29] A bar code 36 and an MS stripe 40 are provided on the rear surface of the substrate
10 at the chip card 1 such that they may be used during the period of transition to the IC chip card.
[30] The IC chips 20 and 22 are placed on the front surface such that the credit card information stored at the bar code 36 and the MS stripe 40 is not electromagnetically affected thereby. That is, the IC chips 20 and 22 are disposed about 24mm distant from the bottom of the substrate 10 upwards.
[31] Accordingly, at least one of the chips 22 preferably has an area greater than that of the other chip 20 by 1 to 1.3 times.
[32] Furthermore, the IC chips 20 and 22 are covered by the substrate 10 by the degree of
0.15mm at the bottom thereof. Therefore, the chips are little affected by the external
electromagnetic force, and constantly maintained even when the card is bent.
[33] The above- structured chip card 1 is input or output to a player 2 for recording and reproducing the digital contents by using the chip card as a storage medium, as shown in FIG. 4, the digital contents player includes an exterior housing 100 with a slim outline corresponding to the size of the chip card 1, a connector 101 formed on the one side of the exterior housing 100 and electrically connected to at least one chip 22 of the chip card 1, an opening 102 that the chip card 1 is input or output to the exterior housing 100, a display panel 103 formed on the one surface of the exterior housing 100 such that the digital contents of video, audio, moving pictures or UCC can be recorded and reproduced.
[34] Here, as shown in FIG. 4, the opening 102 may be made in the form of a slot formed on the one side of the exterior housing 2, or a door capable of opening or shutting the exterior housing 100.
[35] Referring to FIG. 4, the digital contents player 2 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention further includes a key input unit 110 for inputting a command if the connector 101 of the exterior housing 100 and at least one chip 22 of the chip card 1 are connected to each other, a control unit 120 for storing applications (or data) and contents for the storage domains of the at least one IC chip 22 of the chip card depending upon the command, or reproducing therefrom, an encryption module 130 and an decryption module 140 for encrypting and de-encrypting the data according to the control of the control unit 120, an output unit 150 for storing the encrypted or decrypted data by the encryption module 130 and the decryption module 140 to the predetermined storage domains of at least one chip 22 and displaying the digital contents such as video, audio, moving pictures or UCC.
[36] Meanwhile, the digital contents player 2 may further have a communication module
160 so as to make short-distance communication with at least one chip 20 of the chip card 1 or a or an activation server 200 such as a finance server.
[37] The short-distance communication may provide an infrared data communication interface, a bluetooth communication interface, a Wi-Fi communication interface, a wireless LAN communication interface, and an RF communication interface such that the at least one chip 22 may store the financial activity details etc, through the short- distance communication with a portable communication terminal having ATM, finance banking function.
[38] That is, at least other chip 22 is interfaced with at least one chip 20 or the server 200 and the ATM through the digital contents player 2 such that a card transaction identification may be provided without the use of the card reader provided from VAN, and the information related to a card transaction details, limit sum, original transaction detail, scheduled events, discount information may be obtained.
[39] As shown in FIG. 5, at lease other chip 22 is provided with a flash memory, and the flash memory 50 has a format information domain 51, a security storage domain 52, and a free storage domain 53. The format information domain 51 records format information for allowing the exterior housing 100 to recognize the applications, data and contents. The security storage domain 52 stores reproducible encryption data only when the identity of a particular person like a certificate, a digital signature, a code table, a password, a card-related essential information as to the limit sum, scheduled events and coupons and a pay digital data is established or the limitation conditions are satisfied. The free storage region 53 may store and reproduce data through a common computer or a universal portable terminal such as PMP and MP3
[40] The security storage region 52 has a financial activity information unit 52a, a security document unit 52b, a card information unit 52c, and a contents unit 52d. The financial activity information unit 52a encrypts or decrypts data through an encryption and decryption module 140 in accordance with the information input by the button selection of the key input unit 110 when the chip card 1 is inserted into the exterior housing 100 and the other chip 22 of the chip card 1 electrically contacts the connector 101 of the exterior housing 100, and is controlled in reproduction or deletion by way of the reproduction unit 120. The security document unit 52b stores a card number, an official certificate, a digital certificate, a password, and a code table. The card information unit 52c stores the card usage details and the overdue details per data, place and sums. The contents unit 52d gives coupon, revolving and pay contents information.
[41] At least other chip 22 is further provided with a data location information unit 54 to recognize the data location in advance. Therefore, the second chip 22 may more speedily process data through the control unit 120 in accordance with the selection of the input unit 110, and reproduce signals through the reproduction unit 130 so as to output them through the output unit 150.
[42] As shown in FIG. 6 to FIG. 8, the key input unit 110 further includes a financial activity information icon 110a, a personal information icon 110b, a card usage information icon 110c, a pay contents reproducing icon HOd and a communication icon 11Oe to read each information block 52a, 52b, 52c, 52d that are stored to the security storage region 52 of the other chip 22 on the output unit 150.
[43] Also, as shown in FIG. 6 to FIG. 8, the key input unit 110 may be formed to use a jog dial.
[44] The output unit 150 may be formed with an LCD panel or an AMOLED panel capable of making illumination even with no backlight.
[45] Next, a usage method of a digital contents through digital contents player using a chip card with a standard size as a storage medium according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. 9.
[46] Firstly, a method for storing a data such as a digital contents to a chip card 1 will be described with reference to FIG. 9.
[47] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, if the chip card 1 is received to the digital contents player 2 (SlO), at least other chip 22 of the chip card 1 is electrically connected to the connector 101 of the exterior housing 100 by a fixing means (not shown) in the exterior housing 100 (S20).
[48] The communication icon 11Oe is selected through the key input unit 110 of the exterior housing 100 (S30), for example, if the short-distance communication with the ATM or a wireless communication with a digital contents server is established (S40), the credit card information and the personal information are encrypted by an encryption module 40 from one chip 20 of the chip card 1 and transmitted (S50), if the ATM or the server 200 that receives the data transmits the data according to the command (S60), the data is stored to the corresponding region among the security storage region by the selection of the data download icon HOg among the key input unit 110 (S70).
[49] The control unit 120 reads the information of the data location information unit 54 of the second IC whip and may easily store the information to the corresponding information region.
[50] Now, a usage method of the digital contents will be described with reference to FIG.
10.
[51] If the chip card 1 is received to the digital contents player 2 (Sl 10), at least other chip 22 of the chip card 1 is electrically connected to the connector 101 of the exterior housing 100 by a fixing means (not shown) in the exterior housing 100 (S 120).
[52] The contents icon 11Oe is selected through the key input unit 110 of the exterior housing 100 (S 130), and the credit card information and the personal information are encrypted by an encryption module 40 from one chip 20 of the chip card 1 and transmitted under the control of the control unit 120 through the communication module 160 of the exterior housing 100 (S 150), if the finance server 200 that receives the data permits the transaction authorization command (S60), the data is decrypted and reproduced in the decryption module 130 and the motion image such as video, audio, UCC is output through the output unit 150 (S 170).
[53] Here, if the card usage information icon 110c is selected through the key input unit
110, the card usage may be managed by promptly picking up the card-related essential information as to the limit sum, the total sum of monthly usage, and the details of scheduled events, discount member stores, and discount coupons in situ by using the selection key under the player chip card.
[54] Accordingly, with the card 1 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the two IC chips are operated in a coupled manner so that pay applications
or data may be used without introducing a separate point charge or a separate payment system.
[55] Furthermore, in case the valued password is input through the key input unit 110 of the exterior housing 100 and the data of the security storage domain 52 is selected through the key input unit 110, the card usage may be managed by promptly reading the card-related essentials in situ.
[56] Furthermore, with the card according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, official certificates and other digital certificates are stored safely by using a security module, and it may be always carried with without requiring any separate storage media so as to efficiently conduct the business when needed.
[57] While this invention has been described in connection with what is presently considered to be practical exemplary embodiments, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments, but, on the contrary, is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Claims
[1] A digital contents player using a chip card with a standard size as a storage medium comprising: an exterior housing having an opening formed on one side surface to input and output the chip card with a standard size, and formed with a slim outline corresponding to the size of the chip card; a connector electrically connected to at least one chip having a flash memory among at leas two semiconductor chips arranged opposite to each other under the chip card; a key input unit formed on the outside surface of the exterior housing to input a command to at least one chip; a control unit controlling to store and reproduce the contents for the storage region of at least one chip according to the command; an encryption/decryption module for encrypting and decrypting the digital contents stored on the other chip under the control of the control unit; an output unit displaying the reproduced digital contents as a display panel.
[2] The digital contents player of claim 1, wherein: one of at least two chips is a finance chip.
[3] The digital contents player of claim 1 or claim 2, wherein: the exterior housing further include a fixing means for ensuring the electrically connection between the chip card and the connector when inputting the chip card through the opening.
[4] The digital contents player of claim 3, wherein: at least other chip includes a security storage domain security-processed to store and reproduce the digital contents only when a predetermined key is input from the exterior housing, a free storage domain capable of freely storing and reproducing the digital contents, and a format information domain for recording a format information as to the interfacing thereof with the exterior housing.
[5] The digital contents player of claim 4, wherein: the output unit of the exterior housing is a display panel, and the key input unit is provided as an icon upon the display panel.
[6] The digital contents player of claim 5, wherein: the output unit of the exterior housing is a display panel, and the key input unit is a jog dial.
[7] The digital contents player of claim 5 or claim 6, wherein: the key input unit includes a financial activity information icon, a personal information icon, a card information icon, and a pay contents reproducing icon to
speedily access to the security storge domain of the other chip upon the output unit.
[8] The digital contents player of claim 7, wherein: the key input unit further includes a communication icon to data-communicate with an ATM, a finance server, a contents providing server.
[9] A method for downloading a digital contents by using a chip card having at least one chip including a flash memory among at least two semiconductor chips spaced apart from each other on a standard- sized substrate as a storage medium: receiving the chip card to a digital contents player including an opening formed on one side, and a contact portion formed on the other side and electrically contacted with at least one chip of the chip card; push-connecting the contact portion of the digital contents player by the fixing means to at least one chip of the chip card; selecting a communication icon through the key input unit of the digital contents player; establishing a short-distance communication with ATM or a wireless communication with a digital contents server; transmitting a credit card information and a person information obtained from at least other chip of the chip card for the digital contents player; transmitting the data according to a command by the ATM or the server received with the credit card information and the person information transmitted by the digital contents player; selecting a download icon among the key input unit to store the data to the memory of at least one chip.
[10] The method of claim 9, wherein: at least one chip includes a security storage domain capable of storing or reproducing information only when a predetermined key is input through a key input unit, a free storage domain capable of freely storing or reproducing information from an exterior terminal, and a format storage domain for recording format information as to the interfacing thereof with the AMOLED display.
[11] The method of claim 10, wherein: the security storage domain includes a finance information unit, a person information storage unit, a card usage information unit, a pay contents storage unit, and a data location information unit storing the location information of the data stored in the memory to easily access to the data in interoperation with a control unit of the digital contents player.
[12] A method for using a digital contents by using a chip card having at least one semiconductor chip including a flash memory and arranged opposite to each
other on a standard- sized substrate as a storage medium: receiving the chip card to a digital contents player including an opening formed on one side, and a contact portion formed on the other side and electrically contacted with at least one chip; push-connecting at least one chip of the chip card and the contaction portion by a fixing means of the digital contents player; selecting a contents icon through the key input unit of the digital contents player; encrypting and transmitting a credit card information and a person information obtained from at least other chip for the digital contents player; receiving the credit card information and the person information, and commanding a transaction authorization by a finance server; receiving the transaction authorization and outputting a motion image such as video, audio, UCC through the output unit. [13] The method of claim 12, wherein: if the card usage information icon is selected through the key input unit, the card usage is displayed by promptly picking up the card-related essential information as to the limit sum, the total sum of monthly usage, and the details of scheduled events, discount member stores, and discount coupons in situ by using the selection key under the digital contents player.
