Abstract

A synthetic fiber, a yarn made of synthetic fibers, and a fibrous structure which are excellent in conductive performance, antistatic performance, electromagnetic/magnetic-shielding performance, planar heat generation, thermal conductivity, etc. and have excellent persistence of these properties. They are excellent also in flexibility, texture, processability, handleability, lightweight properties, etc. Also provided is a process for producing these. The synthetic fiber, yarn made of synthetic fibers, and fibrous structure are ones each having carbon nanotubes adherent to the fiber surface. They are produced smoothly by a process in which a synthetic fiber, a synthetic-fiber yarn, or a fibrous structure formed from a synthetic fiber and/or a synthetic-fiber yarn is treated with a dispersion of carbon nanotubes at a temperature which is not lower than the glass transition temperature of a polymer forming part or the whole of the synthetic fiber or synthetic-fiber yarn and is lower than the melting point or decomposition temperature of the polymer to thereby adhere carbon nanotubes to the surface of the synthetic fiber, synthetic-fiber yarn, or fibrous structure, the carbon nanotubes being continuously connected to one another.
