Abstract

A game machine capable of reading a stack of card selected by the player at a time with high correctness. A camera (64) equipped in a card reader (6) is disposed in front of the stack (10) of cards inserted through the card insertion opening (61) and on the bottom side of the stack (10) at a predetermined distance from the stack (10). The light-receiving surface of a CCD image sensor (643) is parallel to the front surface of the stack (10). A code pattern (16a) is printed on the surface of each card (11) of the stack (10) with a coating agent having infrared red absorptance. Between the camera lens (641) equipped in the camera (64) and the front of the stack (10), a correction optical system (642) for correcting the distortion caused in a captured image is installed. Infrared radiation diffused and irregularly reflected by the code pattern (16a) falls on to the camera lens (641), the code pattern (16a) can be recognized from the image captured by the camera (64).
