Abstract
The invention relates to an instrument for taking and applying human follicular hair grafts, using disposable needles. The inventive apparatus provides a low-cost, simple, practical and effective solution to a tedious, awkward and very expensive problem to be managed worldwide. The invention can significantly improve human hair implantation while reducing the time, costs and personnel required. At present, numerous plugs of scalp have to be cut, divided individually into pieces with 1 or 3 follicles per graft and conveyed manually for implantation in the receptor bed. According to the invention, a single apparatus can be used to synthesise (reduce) the work of seven people to a single person, since the device not only cuts the hair-bearing grafts, but also prepares, divides and grips the grafts, as well as storing same individually or in groups of three in a row inside the needle. In addition to transporting the grafts, the needle preimplants the grafts in the receptor beds and reimplants same such that they can grow and fully develop. The inventive apparatus is hand operated, portable, light, dismantlable, versatile and can perform several functions simultaneously. The invention, which can be operated by a single person, comprises a handheld pneumatic mechanical apparatus having square- or round-tipped needles. Said apparatus facilitates the removal and application of human scalp grafts and the selective removal of follicular unit strips without damaging the follicles or the underlying plexus. Said modifications provide an improved operating performance and, consequently, the apparatus is more efficient, causes less follicular trauma and increases survival rates.
