Abstract

A fail-safe disc brake assembly comprising a spring means (100) pushing a brake shoe (50) against a brake disk (30) in a parking/emergency brake mode a fluid bladder (110) to provide a force, when expanded, to counterarct the spring means and release the brake shoe from the brake disk. The spring means includes a plurality of spring assemblies spaced apart circumferentially on the brake housing (22), wherein each spring assembly comprise a lever (130) which engages a push rod (104) biassed by a Belleville spring (102). Expansion of the fluid bladder displaces an abutment ring (112)in contact with each lever of the plurality of spring assemblies, forcing the levers to rotate resulting in the retraction the push rods against the force of the Belleville springs.
