Abstract

An autoclave (1) comprises a chamber (3) with a vertically oriented opening (5), closed by a door (7). The door (7) is raised from below the opening (5) to opposite the opening (5). A plurality of cams (91) are movable to a closing position in which the cams (91) bear on the door (7) to hold it against a seal (33) to form an airtight seal between the door (7) and the chamber (3) when the door (7) is locked. Control means are provided to electrically control the movement of the door (7) and the cams (91).
