Abstract

A heating element overtemperature protection (dry boil) control for a cordless water heating appliance has a pair of dished, snap-acting bimetallic discs spring mounted on one face of the control to be juxtaposed with the underside of a planar heating element and, on an opposite face of the control, has a 360° power input connector designed to be powered by way of a complementary 360° power output connector mounted in a power base of the appliance. The bimetals each operate a respective set of switch contacts via a trip-lever and a spring wire latching arrangement operates to prevent the trip-lever from resetting once the respective bimetal has reset. A cam is provided in the 360° power input connector part of the control and is coupled to the spring wire latching arrangements so that the act of disconnecting the power input connector from the power base output connector, by lifting the appliance proper off its base, releases the spring wires and allows the trip levers to reset. A steam control can also be provided which acts upon the dry boil switch contacts. The mounting arrangement of the bimetals provides compliance and optimum switch-actuating movement.
