Description

A WASHER/DRYER USING MICROWAVE AND ITS CONTROL METHOD
This invention relates to a washer/dryer using microwave which reduces the risk of electrical arcing and an operation method providing the safe use of the washer/dryer.
hi the prior art, microwave is used in the washing/drying cycles of preferably the front loaded washer/dryers in household appliances. In case wherein microwave is used in the washer/dryers, the metal accessories left and/or forgotten on the laundry can cause the electrical arcing and scorch the laundry.
In International Patent Application WO 01/57457, an arc detection device is defined for the washer/dryers wherein the microwave is used.
hi American Patents US5424515 and US 5325600 of the other embodiments, a device and a method is disclosed for the prevention of scorching of the fabric subjected to the microwave by means of the detection of the arcing in the microwave environment.
The object of this invention is to provide a washer/dryer and a control method which use microwave and prevents the loading of the metal objects into the place where the microwave is used.
In order to achieve the object of this invention, a washer/dryer and a control method wherein the microwave is used is described with the attached drawings.
Figure 1 is a schematic view of a washer/dryer using microwave,
Figure 2 is a flow chart of a control method. hi figures each part has been numbered corresponding the following:
1. Washer/dryer
2. Microwave applicator 3. Magnetron
4. Isolator
5. Wave guide
6. Control card
7. Microwave detector 8. Metal detector
9. Warning device
10. Select button
11. Cover 21. Drum 22. Tub
The washer/dryer (1) using microwave comprises a cover (11), which helps the loading and removal of the objects, a microwave applicator (2), which yields and applies the microwave and a control card (6) comprising preferably one or more memories. The microwave applicator (2) comprises a magnetron (3) which yields microwave, an isolator (4) which protects the environment from the reflecting power, a microwave detector (7) either crystal or diode which controls the power of the microwave by detecting the excessive powers on the isolator (4) by means of the control card (6) and a wave guide (5) which leads the applied microwave to the desired direction.
The washer/dryer (1) which is the subject of this invention comprises a metal detector (8), which is placed not to be affected by the microwave and provides the detection of the arcing metal objects and one or more warning device (9) wherein the control card (6) informed by the metal detector (8) when the metal objects are placed into the device (1) warns the user by visual or audio means. The warning device (9) comprises one or more select buttons (10), which provides the user with options such as the continuation of the operation of the warning device and/or applies them.
However the main object of the microwave detector (7) is to prevent the arcing during the operation when the metal detector (8) does not work, it detects the metal objects by means of the differences in the reflections resulted from the control-targeted low amounts of microwave transmission in the first operation conditions and provides the warning for the user based on the control card (6), end of the operation or continuation of the operation without the use of microwave.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, preferably a front loaded washer/dryer (1) comprises a drum (21) pivotally rotating around an axis in which the laundry is put and a tub (22) in which the drum (21) moves. Microwave applicator (2) is preferably on the tub (22) and the metal detector (8) is preferably on the tub (22) in a place where it is not affected by the microwave resulted from the microwave applicator (2) and is on the close side of the cover (11). Therefore the metal objects loaded into the device from the cover (11) part can be easily detected.
An operation method for the washer/dryer (1), which is the subject of this invention, comprises the steps of;
Starting the method to apply without the option of the user (200), as the washer/dryer (1) is operated,
Controlling the metal detector (8) whether it works or not (201),
o Controlling (201) the metal detector (8) , if the metal detector (8) does not work or an object comprising a metal is not detected, o Closing (102) the cover (11) , o Controlling (201) the metal detector (8), if the metal detector (8) works, objects comprising metals are detected by the metal detector (8) (100), 5 o Controlling the object loaded into the washer/dryer (1) whether it contains metal or not (101), o Controlling (102) the cover (11), if the object loaded into the washer/dryer (1) is detected not to contain metal during its control step (101), 10 o Warning the user by means of an warning device (103) due to the risk of arcing (103), if the object loaded into the washer/dryer (1) is detected to contain metal during its control step (101), o Controlling the select button (10) whether it is used or not 15 (104), o Stopping the machine and returning to the beginning step
(200), when the select button (10) is controlled (104), if the select button (104) is used, o Awaiting until the select button (10) is used for the period 20 determined by the producer (105), when the select button
(10) is controlled (104), if the select button (104) is not used, o Controlling the cover (11) whether it is closed or not (102), o Restarting the method and the procedures again (200), if 25 the cover (11) is not closed, o Operating (120) microwave detector (7), When the cover
(11) is controlled, if it is closed, o Operating (120) microwave detector, o Transmitting microwave to the environment at a low level 30 (121), o Detecting microwave transmitted in the environment (128), o Controlling the detected microwave amount whether it is higher than the values determined by the producer to harm the user or not (122), o Continuing to operate in the way predetermined by the 5 consumer (123), if there is no difference in the reflection of the transmitted microwave, o Stopping (124) the machine and returning to the beginning step (200), o Stopping transmission microwave by the information 10 received in the control card (125), if there is a difference in the reflection of the transmitted microwave in the control step whether the detected microwave amount is higher than the values predetermined by the producer (122), o Warning the user (126), 15 o Detecting whether the metal object is removed or not (127) by metal detector (8), o Continuing to operate in the way selected by the consumer
(123), if the metal object is detected to be removed (127), o Awaiting for the period determined by the producer (130), 20 if the metal object is detected not to be removed (127), o Warning the user ( 131 ) , o Asking to the user to select to operate with or without microwave (132), o Stopping (133) the machine and returning to the beginning 25 step (200), if it is required to operate with microwave, o Operating the machine without microwave (134), if it is required to operate without microwave, o Stopping (135) the machine and returning to the beginning step following the completion of the procedures (200). 30 In addition to the fact that the washer/dryer, which is the subject of this invention, can stop the arcing during the operation by detection, it can prevent the arcing by means of the detection of the causative objects prior the operation.
