Abstract
Description
Method for making a decoration on leather.
The present invention relates to methods for producing decorations on leather. More particularly, the invention provides a method for decorating tanned leather, comprising a tattooing step during which at least one pigment is penetrated into the thickness of the leather by means of at least one needle, by pricking the leather repeatedly with said needle, so as to produce a pigmented decoration.
The pigment in question can be, for example, in the form of a liquid or possibly pasty preparation, such as tattoo ink, for example an alcoholic liquid ink. Thanks to these provisions, a decoration is obtained which can be produced very finely while having very high resistance to wear and aging, in particular due to the deep penetration of the pigment into the thickness of the leather. In preferred embodiments of the invention, use may optionally be made of one and / or the other of the following arrangements: the said needle is coated with pigment; the pigment is in the form of a liquid or pasty preparation; the tattooing step is preceded by at least one preliminary treatment step during which a solvent is applied to the leather; during the preliminary treatment step, the solvent applied to the leather is a polar solvent, preferably acetone; .. during the preliminary treatment step, "i e solvent is applied on one: face du_ cuir_ and during the tattooing step, is carried out the setting on the same face of the leather; during. from the preliminary treatment step, the solvent is applied by buffering; the preliminary treatment step comprises a drying phase, after the application of solvent to the leather; the drying phase has a duration of at least 30 minutes and preferably at least one hour approximately; - During the tattooing step, at least one titanium-based steel needle is used; during the tattooing step, the leather is pricked simultaneously with at least three needles substantially contiguous to each other by forming a bundle; during the tattooing step, said needle is made to penetrate at least 0.5 mm into the thickness of the leather; during the tattooing step, a pigment is used which is in the form of a liquid or pasty ink, preferably an alcoholic ink; the tattooing step is preceded by a dry stitching step during which the leather is stitched repeatedly with said needle not coated with pigment; - the decoration is made on a shoe.
Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear during the following description of one of its embodiments, given by way of nonlimiting example, with reference to the attached drawing, where the single figure represents a leather object being decorated according to a process according to the present invention.
As shown in the drawing, the object of the invention is to provide a decoration on an object 1 which may be, for example, a shoe or the like, in order to produce a pattern 4 on the outer surface 3 of a tanned leather part 2 of object 1 (for example the upper of the shoe).
According to the invention, the pattern 4 is produced by tattooing, by repeatedly pricking the outer surface 3 of the leather with at least one and generally several needles 5 (for example three needles), which are driven in an alternating movement in the direction their length by an electric actuator 6 such as a tattoo stylus or the like held by an operator. The needles 5 can for example be metallic needles, produced in particular from titanium-based steel, each having a diameter of for example between 0.1 and 0.4 mm. These needles may in particular be welded, or otherwise fixed, to a rod (not shown) which is actuated in an alternating sliding movement by the actuator 6. The needles 5 are substantially joined to one another so as to form a beam. The needles 5 are regularly soaked by the operator in a reserve of a pigment initially in the form of a liquid or possibly pasty preparation, such as ink for tattooing, for example an alcoholic liquid ink. Because the needles 5 are substantially contiguous to each other, they retain ink between them by capillary action and remain coated with ink during tattooing. During tattooing, the needles 5 are made to penetrate a thickness of at least 0.5 mm into the leather, entraining the pigment. Alternatively, the actuator 6 could optionally include an internal pigment reserve with a system for automatically feeding the needles 5 with the pigmented preparation.
This tattooing step can advantageously be preceded by a preliminary treatment step, in which a preferably polar solvent which can advantageously be acetone, is applied to the leather 2, and in particular to the outer surface 3 of the leather. This solvent can be applied in particular by buffering, for a sufficient time so that the leather loses its shine and becomes rough to the touch. This treatment has the effect of slightly lifting the surface fibers of the leather. Outdoor .. sμrface 3 of the. leather then takes on a substantially rough suede appearance in the areas where pattern 4 must be made.
After applying the solvent, the leather is allowed to dry for a period which may advantageously be greater than half an hour, and preferably greater than Approximatly one hour.
If necessary, after this preliminary treatment step with acetone and before the actual tattooing, a dry stitching of the area which must receive the pattern 4 can be carried out by means of the needles 5 actuated by the device 6, not coated. ink, so as to further lift the surface fibers of the leather.
After the tattooing step, the outer surface 3 of the leather can undergo a conventional skating and / or waxing treatment.
