Definitions
- the present invention relates generally to a control device for push-button of the type encountered in particular in electronic or electromechanical timepieces.
- the present invention also relates to a portable electronic instrument, such as a timepiece, comprising such a control device for a pusher.
- Such push-button control devices are very widespread, in particular in the field of electronic or electromechanical timepieces.
- a typical example of such a control device is given in document EP 1 089 144.
- This document describes in particular a multifunction pusher contact flange consisting essentially of a base fixed to the bottom of a housing in the vicinity of the pusher and of an elastic blade forming a movable contact element capable of being actuated by the pusher.
- This contact flange forms a first contact element of the control device, the elastic blade of the flange cooperating with a second contact element disposed on an electronic module to establish an electrical connection when the pusher is actuated.
- the contact is therefore formed of two contact elements, one movable (namely the above-mentioned elastic blade capable of being actuated by the pusher) secured to the housing by its base and the other fixed. which is arranged on the electronic module (typically a contact area provided on the printed circuit board of the electronic module).
- the second contact element thus consists for example of a curved conductive tab of the printed circuit. It will thus be understood that the two contact elements are arranged on different reference systems, namely the housing (of which the pusher is typically integral) as regards the first contact element, and the printed circuit board as regards the second contact element.
- a disadvantage of the above-mentioned typical construction is that the printed circuit board constitutes an element whose dimensions and positioning in the housing cannot be guaranteed with great precision. This lack of precision results in a lack of precision in the arrangement and the stroke of the pusher, which consequently affects the quality of actuation and use of the pusher. To improve this accuracy, it is therefore necessary to find another solution or at least improve existing solutions.
- the fixed contact element in contact with which the movable contact element is brought is generally produced in the form of a metallization made on the printed circuit board or an integral part of the printed circuit. Following repeated mechanical contacts between the contact elements, this metallization can undergo significant wear and consequently degrade the quality of the electrical contact. We will therefore also seek to reduce this susceptibility to wear of the control device for the pusher.
- An object of the present invention is thus to propose a solution which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art.
- Another object of the present invention is to propose a solution whose construction and assembly are facilitated, in particular a solution suitable for automatic assembly of the components.
- the present invention provides a control device for a pusher, the characteristics of which are set out in claim 1.
- the main advantage of this control device lies in the fact that the two elements forming the contact, as well as the pusher itself, are arranged on the same support or repository (for example the box of the portable electronic instrument). In this way, the arrangement of the constituent elements of the control device as well as the stroke of the pusher can be adjusted very precisely. Unlike the solutions of the prior art, this precision is no longer dependent on the precision and the tolerances of the electronic module used.
- each contact flange forming part of the fixed contact element is in electrical contact with a corresponding contact pad, namely a contact pad of the electronic module (such as a pushbutton control input) or a contact area brought to a determined potential (for example a pole or a terminal connected to the pole of a source of electrical energy supply).
- the electrical contact is thus ensured by the displacement of a mobile part from one flange to the other.
- This "flange on flange" contact also ensures better wear resistance of the control device for the pusher.
- the present invention also relates to a portable electronic instrument comprising a control device of the aforementioned type and the characteristics of which are set out in claim 7.
- FIG. 1 is a plan view of a portable electronic instrument in the form of a wristwatch incorporating a pusher control device according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, this portable instrument being in particular equipped five pushers placed laterally on the instrument box;

- FIG. 3 is a sectional view of the instrument of Figure 1 taken along an axis parallel to the axis 6h-12h (line B-B indicated in Figure 1 also shown in Figure 6a);
- FIG. 4 is an isometric view of a part of the box of the instrument of Figure 1 (upper part of the box) forming the support of the pusher control device according to the invention;
- FIGS. 5a to 5c are respectively front, side and perspective views of a first contact flange of the pusher control device according to the preferred embodiment of the invention.
- FIG. 6a to 6c are respectively front, side and perspective views of a second contact flange of the pusher control device according to the preferred embodiment of the invention
- FIG. 7a to 7c are respectively front, side and perspective views of a flange holding member of Figures 5a to 5c and 6a to 6c according to the preferred embodiment of the invention and also forming a spacer;
- FIGS. 8a to 8c are perspective views illustrating three intermediate phases of assembly in the box of the elements illustrated in the above figures, namely respectively the mounting of the electronic module, the first contact flanges of the pushers and the seconds contact flanges.
- FIG. 1 illustrates a general plan view of a portable electronic instrument in the form of a wristwatch generally identified by the reference numeral 1.
- This instrument 1 comprises a box 4 containing in particular a display device 5, here liquid crystal, arranged under a glass 3, as well as an electronic module (not illustrated in this figure), this box 4 here taking the form of a case-back of the watch on which a bezel is attached 11.
- Five push buttons identified respectively by the reference numerals 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 are arranged laterally on the case 4, respectively at 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, 8 h and 10 h.
- Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the instrument of Figure 1 taken along a cutting line along the axis 9h-3h (cutting line A-A indicated in Figure 1).
- the box 4 made up, as illustrated, of two parts 4.1 and 4.2, respectively forming a middle part and a bottom, made integral with one another by fixing means not illustrated (for example by means of screws), a seal 45 being in particular disposed between these two parts in a groove 41 formed in the middle part 4.1.
- the box 4 is made of a synthetic material such as a plastic, the glass 3 then being suitably welded, for example by ultrasound, to the middle part 4.1.
- the bezel 11 is attached to the middle part 4.1, here by bi-material injection.
- the liquid crystal display device 5 as well as the electronic module, identified by the reference numeral 6, are arranged in the housing formed inside the middle part 4.1.
- a housing is also provided in the bottom 4.2 to accommodate a source of electrical energy supply 9, here being in the form of a button-type battery.
- the electronic module 6 includes, as illustrated, a printed circuit board 60 (hereinafter simply referred to as “printed circuit”) supporting, on each of its faces (or at least one) a set of electrical and / or electronic components identified globally by the reference numerals 61, 62.
- spacers 7, 8 are arranged on either side of the printed circuit 60 to ensure adequate spacing and support from neighboring elements.
- a first spacer 7 is thus placed on the glass side to provide support for the module 6 in the middle part 4.1 and on the display device 5.
- a second spacer 8 is arranged on the bottom side to provide support for the module 6 relative to the bottom 4.1 and the stack 9. It will already be noted here that the second spacer 8 also participates in the maintenance of the pusher control device according to the invention. We will come back to its additional role later.
- the middle part 4.1 comprises a tenon (in this case several tenons as illustrated in particular in the isometric view of FIG. 4) designated by the reference numeral 400 which here crosses an orifice formed through the module electronic 6.
- This tenon 400 (as well as the others) notably includes a shoulder 410 on its terminal part, the utility of which we will come back below.
- FIG. 2 shows a part of this control device in conjunction with the pusher 2.2 located at 3 o'clock.
- this pusher 2.2 comprises a head 21 integral with a rod 22 inserted in an orifice 42 formed in the middle part 4.1. It will be noted that the pusher 2.2 (like the other pusher) is retained in the box by the end of the rod 22. The latter in fact has a wider end cooperating with a bead of material 42a formed at the outlet of the orifice 42.
- the pusher is thus inserted into its orifice 42, the bead of material deforming slightly when the rod 22 passes to return to place and ensure the retention of the pusher by the end of its rod.
- the seal at the pusher is ensured by an O-ring 23 disposed in a groove in the rod 22.
- the pusher incorporates a snap-action control device 25, disposed between the base of the head 21 of the pusher and the middle part 4.1, this click control device being of the type described in document EP 1 162 251 also in the name of the present Applicant.
- the pusher control device comprises a first metal contact flange generally designated by the reference 210 and comprising a first elastic blade 211 placed on the actuation axis XX of the pusher so as to be operated by the latter.
- the contact flange 210 is preferably embedded by its base 214 in the box 4 (in this case in a groove made in the middle part 4.1, this groove being designated here by the reference numeral 43.2) so that it is arranged in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of the printed circuit 60 of the electronic module 6. It will be understood that this contact flange 210 does not necessarily have to be arranged in this way. It will however be noted, as described in what follows, that the contact flange 210 is in particular arranged in such a way as to cooperate with an edge of the printed circuit 60 as well as with an edge of a second contact flange of the device control.
- the first contact flange 210 comprises at least one second elastic blade, designated here by the reference numeral 212, slightly folded out of the plane of the flange to come into contact with an edge of the printed circuit 60 of the electronic module, or more exactly with a corresponding contact pad, hereinafter designated by the reference numeral 610, formed on the edge of the printed circuit 60.
- FIGS. 8a to 8c make it possible to better visualize the five contact pads 610 associated with pushers 2.1 to 2.5 formed on the edge of the printed circuit 60 ..
- These contact pads 610 are typically produced in the form of an appropriate metallization (for example of copper or gold) of localized areas of the edge of the printed circuit 60.
- the first contact flange actually comprises, in addition to the elastic blade 211 placed on the actuation axis XX of the pusher, two other elastic blades 212, 213 in electrical contact , preferably permanent, with the edge of the printed circuit 60, these elastic blades 212, 213 being placed symmetrically on either side of the elastic blade 211, this arrangement ensuring better support and better distribution of stresses in the flange during actuation of the pusher.
- the contact flange 210 preferably has a general "E" shape comprising a base 214 by which the flange is embedded in the box, the elastic blade 211 in the central position, integral with the base 214 and intended to be actuated by the pusher, and two peripheral blades 212, 213 also integral with the base 214, the latter being slightly folded by ten degrees outside the plane of the flange as illustrated in FIGS. 5b and 5c.
- the base 214 of the contact flange 210 also has a curved profile so as to ensure correct positioning of the flange in its mounting groove.
- This base 214 could also be provided with a notch collaborating with a corresponding protrusion of the mounting groove in order to further improve its resistance to any lateral movement in the mounting groove.
- the control device for each pusher comprises a first contact flange of the type illustrated in FIGS. 5a to 5c, an equivalent number of mounting grooves thus being formed in the corresponding lateral parts of the middle part 4.1 as illustrated in the view isometric of Figure 4 (only the mounting grooves 43.1, 43.2 and 43.3 of the pushers 2.1 to 2.3 being visible in this figure).
- the pusher control device also comprises a second metal contact flange generally designated by the reference numeral 220.
- This second contact flange 220 is here preferably arranged in a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the printed circuit 60 as can be for example see it in Figures 2 and 3.
- the second contact flange 220 is arranged so that the elastic blade 211 of the first contact flange 210 can come into contact with an edge of the second flange of contact 220 (see in particular figure 2).
- the second contact flange 220 is in electrical contact, preferably permanent, with a contact pad, designated by the reference numeral 620 (cf. in particular FIGS. 8a to 8c) formed on the face on the battery side of the printed circuit 60.
- this second contact flange 220 is also in electrical contact, advantageously permanent, with a pole 91 (here the positive pole) of the battery 9.
- the second contact flange 220 forms, with its associated contact pad 620, a contact element whose electrical potential is fixed by the potential of pole 91 of the energy source electric 9 with which the flange is in contact.
- the second contact flange 220 consequently forms both a contact element for the pushers as well as an electrical connection element allowing the supply of a first electrical potential to the electronic module 6.
- FIGS. 6a to 6c present a detailed illustration of the second contact flange 220.
- the pusher control device of the instrument illustrated in the figures comprises two contact flanges of this type placed at 3 o'clock and at 9 o'clock. to collaborate respectively with buttons 2.1 to 2.3, on the one hand, and 2.4 to 2.5, on the other hand.
- the second contact flange 220 comprises a base 223 by which the flange is mounted on the box 4, as well as first and second elastic blades or extensions 221, 222 integral with the base 223.
- extensions 221, 222 are preferably extend out of the plane of the base 223 and each have a “V” shaped profile comprising a bent part 221a, 222a and a free end part 221 b, 222b.
- the bent parts 221a, 222a of the extensions 221, 222 of the second contact flange 220 are intended to come into electrical contact with the contact pads 620 formed on the face of the battery side of the printed circuit 60 while the free end part 221b, 222b is intended to come into electrical contact with the pole 91 of the battery 9.
- Figures 8a to 8c show that a total of four contact pads 620 are provided on the face of the battery side of the printed circuit 60 to come into contact with the bent parts 221a, 222a of two contact flanges 220.
- the second contact flange 220 is provided with a set of orifices and mounting notches designated by the reference numerals 224a and 224b by which this flange is mounted on the box 4.
- the mounting holes and notches 224a, 224b are provided to allow the contact flange 220 to come to bear by its base 223 on the shoulders 410 of the pins 400 forming an integral part of the middle part 4.1 of the box 4.
- the middle part is provided with six tenons 400 each having a shoulder 410 on which the contact flange 220 comes to bear.
- each contact flange 220 is supported by three pins 400 as shown for example in Figure 3 which is a sectional view of the instrument in the vicinity of the pushers 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 taken along the cutting plane B- B shown in FIG. 1 as well as in FIG. 6a.
- two mounting orifices 224a are formed in the base 223 of the second contact flange 220, only one of them being however used to support the flange in addition to the notches 224b. It should be noted that the contact flange 220 placed at 9 o'clock is supported by the two notches 224b as well as the mounting hole 224a located in the center, while the contact flange 220 placed at 3 o'clock is supported by the two notches 224b and the mounting hole 224a located in the off-center position, this due to the presence of the pusher 2.2 located at 3 o'clock as illustrated in FIG. 8c.
- the pusher control device is preferably designed so that the elastic blade 211 of the first contact flange 210 is capable of coming into contact with an edge of the second contact flange 220.
- the second flange of contact 220 being designed to cooperate with a number of pushers which can go up to three in the preferred embodiment presented by way of example in the figures, it will thus be noted that the second contact flange 220 comprises, on its edge, up to three contact regions 223a, 223b and 223c intended to receive the central elastic blade 211 of each first contact flange 210.
- the central elastic blade 211 of the first flange of contact 210 associated with the pusher 2.2 is likely to come into contact with the contact region 223b formed on the edge of the base 223 of the second contact flange 220. It will be noted that the contact region 223b formed on the contact flange 220 placed at 9 o'clock is not used.
- the first and second contact flanges 210 and 220 are all arranged on the same support or reference frame as the pushers, in this case on the middle part 4.1 of the box 4, each of the first flanges contact 210 being embedded in a corresponding mounting groove formed in the middle part 4.1 while each of the second contact flanges 220 is supported by the shoulders 410 of the studs made of material with the middle part 4.1.
- the arrangement of the constituent elements of the control device as well as the stroke of the pusher can be adjusted very precisely, the precision of this adjustment no longer being dependent on the precision and the dimensional tolerances of the electronic module used.
- the electrical contact of the pusher with the electronic module is ensured by the contact of the movable part of the first flange on the edge of the second flange, thus ensuring better wear resistance of the control device for the pusher.
- a (second) spacer 8 is arranged on the battery side face of the printed circuit 60 of the electronic module 6. In addition to its conventional spacing and support function, this spacer 8 ensures, on the one hand, that the two contact flanges 220 are held in place, and, on the other hand On the other hand, the five contact flanges 210 are held in place.
- the configuration of the spacer 8 is illustrated in more detail in FIGS. 7a to 7c. As illustrated, this spacer 8 has an essentially annular shape with a support frame 80 provided with five arms 81.1 to 81.5.
- each arm 81.1 to 81.5 are arranged in positions corresponding to the locations of the five pushers 2.1 to 2.5 and each serve to retain the first contact flanges 210 in their respective housings by means of their two peripheral blades 212, 213 as well as press the second contact flanges 220 against the shoulders 410 of the pins 400, this being visible in the sections of Figures 2 and 3 ( Figure 2 showing for example the retention of the contact flanges 210 and 220 in the vicinity of the pusher 2.2 located at 3 h).
- each arm 81.1 to 81.5 is preferably provided with a pair of pins 82.
- pins 82 are directed on the glass side after mounting of the spacer 8 and are intended to ensure permanent contact with the peripheral blades 212, 213 of each first contact flange 210 with the corresponding contact pad 610 formed on the edge of the printed circuit 60.
- the frame 80 of the spacer 8 is provided with four notches 83 intended to allow passage extensions 221, 222 of the two contact flanges 220 to come into contact with the pole 91 of the battery 9.
- the two studs identified by the reference numeral 85 ensure adequate positioning of the spacer 8 in the middle part 4.1.
- FIGS. 8a to 8c show three intermediate phases of the assembly of the pusher control device according to the preferred embodiment of the invention.
- the assembly comprising the electronic module 6, the spacer 7 and the display device 5 is housed in the middle part 4.1.
- the five contact flanges 210 are inserted in their mounting groove, as illustrated in FIG. 8b, so that the two peripheral blades 212, 213 of each first contact flange 210 come to bear against the five corresponding contact pads 610 formed on the edge of the printed circuit 60.
- the two contact flanges 220 placed on the battery side are then arranged, as illustrated in FIG. 8c, on the shoulders 410 of the pins 400 of the middle part 4.1, the bent parts 221a and 222a of the extensions 221, 222 of each second contact flange 220 bearing against the four contact pads 620 formed on the face again exposed of the printed circuit 60.
- the spacer 8 illustrated in FIGS. 7a to 7c is then arranged to hold the contact flanges 210, 220 in place.
- the assembly of the instrument finally ends, among other operations, by the fixing of the bracelet, not shown, the arrangement of the seal 45 in its groove 41, and the fixing of the bottom 4.2 comprising the battery 9.
- first contact flanges 210 of the control device for the pusher are retained by means of the second spacer 8 and that the elastic peripheral blades 212, 213 of each of these contact flanges 210 are in electrical contact with a corresponding contact pad 610 formed on the edge of the printed circuit 60 of the electronic module 6. It will however be understood that the contact flanges 210 could alternatively be retained by the printed circuit 60 itself.
- the spacer again fulfills its additional role of retaining the contact flanges 210, however without the need to provide the pins 82 envisaged in the embodiment illustrated in the figures.
- the two aforementioned alternatives present in particular the advantage of not requiring the fitting of metallizations on the edge of the printed circuit 60 as is the case of the embodiment illustrated in the figures, this advantage being capable of reducing costs module manufacturing electronic 6.
- peripheral blades of the first metal contact flange are preferably in permanent contact with the corresponding contact pads of the electronic module.
