Abstract

A rodent trap (6, 206) is provided in which a cartridge (7, 207) is utilised. The cartridge is associated with a failsafe mechanism (14, 214) which supports the cartridge until deactivated. Deactivation of the failsafe mechanism (14, 214) is achieved through the rodent displacing an entrance door (32, 232) which in turn slides the failsafe mechanism (14, 214) such that a trip lever (19, 310) acts to release a striker (23, 223) which has a striker bar, (24, 224) to break the rodent's back in order to kill it. The trap (6, 206) will only become actuated once the failsafe mechanism (14, 214) is slide released so that the trap (6, 206) is less susceptible to inadvertent actuation if knocked or dropped. Furthermore, there is less likelihood of contamination in that the rodent and parts of the trap (6, 206) which may be contacted by a rodent are isolated from normal touch by a user.
