Definitions
- the present invention relates to a stripper for coaxial cables.
- coaxial cables is meant electrical cables comprising several concentric conductors separated from each other by sheaths.
- a triaxial cable for example, must be considered as part of the family of coaxial cables and therefore as part of the cables which can be used with the stripper according to the invention.
- the present invention notably offers the advantages of overcoming the aforementioned problems. It relates to a stripper for coaxial cables comprising: a cutting unit comprising cutting means for a plurality of sheaths, said cutting unit being adapted to surround a cable and simultaneously cut its sheaths by rotation of said cutting means around the cable,
- an intermediate unit adapted to surround said cable and comprising means for adjusting the rotation of said cutting means
- a fixing unit comprising means for fixing said cable, the three units being adjacent and aligned along a common axis defined by said cable, said stripper being characterized in that:
- the cutting unit comprises a cylindrical casing which is open on the side of its base which is in contact with the intermediate unit, the interior of the casing comprising at least: a) two rotary cutting disks having an orifice in their center for passing the cable, the face of each rotary disc which is opposite to the intermediate unit comprising a pivoting blade adapted to cut the sheaths of the cable, the other face comprising means for securing with the adjacent disc and means for making pivot the blade, b) a rotary guide disc comprising means for guiding said blades, said guide disc being made integral with the cutting disc which is adjacent to it by means of said securing means, the bottom of the housing further comprising means for driving the rotary cutting disc which is adjacent to it;
- the intermediate unit is made integral with the fixing unit.
- the device according to the invention can also have reduced dimensions, for example between 10 to 20 cm in length and a diameter between 5 to 10 cm.
- the cutting discs include means which make it possible to adjust the cutting depth.
- the guide disc comprises a cylinder surrounding the cable and which comprises a set of slots serving as guides for the blades during their pivoting.
- the guide disc itself comprises cutting means.
- the means for adjusting the intermediate unit comprise two discs, the first disc remaining integral with the assembly formed by the intermediate unit and the fixing unit, the second disc being adapted to rotate around the cable while exerting friction on the first disc.
- the stripper according to the invention can contain a number greater than two cutting discs.
- three cutting discs are used and the guide disc is also provided with cutting means. This configuration is intended for stripping triaxial cables which have four sheaths to be cut.
- Figure 1 shows a stripper according to the invention.
- Figure 2 essentially shows a disassembled cutting unit.
- FIG. 3 represents a cutting disc, seen from the front, in a first configuration.
- Figure 4 shows the same disc as Figure 3, but in a different configuration.
- Figure 5 shows schematically the disc of Figures 3 and 4 seen from the back.
- FIG. 6 illustrates a longitudinal section of the stripper of FIG. 1.
- the stripper shown in Figures 1 to 6 consists of a cutting unit 1, an intermediate unit 2 and a fixing unit 3. It is designed to strip a triaxial cable.
- the interior of the stripper (see fig. 2 and 6) has a longitudinal channel intended to detachably receive a coaxial cable 5.
- the cutting unit 1 comprises a casing 9 of cylindrical shape, the external surface of which is provided with longitudinal grooves serving to facilitate the gripping and rotation of the cutting unit 1 by a user.
- the base 10 of the housing 9 which is located on the side of the intermediate unit 2 is open.
- the interior of the housing contains a disc 23 fixed to the bottom 22 of the housing 9 by means of screws 34, three cutting discs 11 -13 and a guide disc 19.
- the three cutting discs 11-13 are of identical structure except for their thickness which can vary. In the example illustrated here, each disc has a different thickness. As will be seen later, the choice of the thickness of the discs 11-13 determines the distance between two cutting zones.
- the face 15 of the disks 11-13 which points towards the bottom 22 of the housing 9 has a pivoting blade 7 provided with a longitudinal slot 37. The position of its pivot 28 is such that the blade 7 can cut the sheaths of a cable 5 which passes through the orifice 14 of the disc 11-13.
- the disc 11-13 further comprises two slots 26, 27 in the form of an arc of a circle ' .
- the first slot 26 being disposed towards the periphery of the disc 11-13, the second 27 being between the pivot 28 of the blade 7 and the central orifice 14 of the disc.
- the disc also has two recesses 38, 39 in the shape of an arc of a circle, their presence makes it possible to lighten the entire structure forming the stripper.
- the second face 16 of each disc 11-13 has two pivots 17, 18 arranged perpendicular to the face 16 of the disc 11-13.
- the first pivot 18 is placed towards the periphery of the disc 11-13, it is adapted to move inside the first slot 26 of the adjacent disc.
- the second pivot 17 is placed near the central orifice 14, it is adapted to pass through the longitudinal slot 37 of the blade 7 of the adjacent disc and to move inside the second slot 27 of this same disc .
- the maximum displacement of the pivots 17, 18 in their respective slots 26,27 can be adjusted using a system comprising a screw 25, the end of which can be introduced into the first slot 26.
- the disc 23 fixed to the bottom 22 of the housing 9, on its face directed towards the intermediate unit 2, also comprises pivots 17, 18, identical in their technical and functional characteristics, to those of the other cutting discs (see FIG. 5 ).
- the guide disc 19, with the exception of the zone surrounding its central orifice, has a configuration similar to that of the first faces 15 of the cutting discs 11-13.
- the central part of the guide disc 19 comprises an extension of cylindrical shape 20 whose external diameter is such that it can pass through the orifices of the other discs 11-13, 23.
- the end of the cylinder 20 is located towards the bottom of the housing. 9 and slightly exceeds it to reach the outside of the housing 9.
- the cylinder 20 has a circular groove 36 intended to receive in a sliding manner a screw 35 housed in the fixed disc 23. The presence the circular groove 36 and the sliding screw 35 ensures the retention of all of the discs 11-13,19 and their movable contact with the fixed disc 23 and the housing 9 to which it is fixed.
- the cylinder 20 also comprises a series of slots 21 (see FIG. 2) which act as a guide for the blades 7.
- the intermediate unit 2 comprises a cylindrical sleeve 29 made integral with the cylinder 20 of the guide disc 19, a rotary disc 30 made integral with the sleeve 29 by means of screws 32 and a fixed disc 31 exerting friction on the rotary disc 30 by means of springs 6 surrounding screws 24 which are arranged perpendicular to the two discs 30, 31.
- the fixing unit 3 is made integral with the intermediate unit 2 by means of screws 33. It includes a system of clamps 8 which prevent rotation and translation of the cable 5 when that is put in place in the stripper.
- the cable 5 is fixed by screwing the outer casing of the fixing unit 3 towards the intermediate unit 2.
- each blade 7 Prior to the introduction of the cable 5, the cutting depth of each blade 7 is defined by adjusting the depth of the adjusting screw 25 of the first slot 26 of the cutting disks 11-13.
- the frictional force between the rotary disc 30 and the fixed disc 31 of the intermediate unit is adjusted by action on the screws 24 which are inside the springs 6.
- the different elements are then assembled. With one of his hands, the user rotates the housing 9 of the cutting unit 1 clockwise, the other hand preferably gripping the fixing unit 3. This gesture causes a displacement in the same direction of the pivots 17 which pass through the blades 7. The latter are then removed from the central orifice 14 of the cutting discs 11-13,19.
- the cable can thus be introduced into the stripper, preferably on the side of the fixing unit 3.
- the cable 5 is then fixed in the fixing unit 3. In this configuration, the stripper is ready for cutting the sheaths.
- the user rotates the housing 9 of the cutting unit 1 in an anti-clockwise direction. The blades approach and penetrate into the different sheaths at previously defined depths.
- the speed of rotation of the blades 7 around the cables, as well as the quality of the cut are determined by the adjustment of the screws 24 which, by means of the springs 6, modify the friction between the rotary disc 30 and the fixed disc 31 of the intermediate unit 2.
- the speed of rotation of the blades will be all the higher, and the quality of cut reduced, if the friction between the two discs 30,31 is low.
- the user first unlocks the cable 5 at the level of the fixing unit 3, he then exerts traction on the cable, preferably from the side of the stripper where the unit of fixing 3.
- the cable 5 can thus exit the stripper and the cut sheaths remain temporarily inside the stripper before being in turn extracted by shaking the stripper and turning the housing 9 clockwise to disengage the blades from the central orifice 14 from the cutting discs 11-13,19.
