Definitions
- the present invention relates to a protective helmet, and more precisely to a helmet adjustment device intended to promote its positioning and positioning as well as its adaptation to the size of the user's head.
- Protective helmets have long been in common use in various fields, either professionally as is the case for the military, pilots of airplanes or helicopters, gendarmes or firefighters, or for civil purposes or private, as is the case for users of motorcycles, rally or racing cars, or employees of construction sites.
- helmets of the prior art are generally formed of a rigid external shell and an internal covering intended to allow the fitting of the helmet and to favor the comfort of the user. They may also include an internal envelope made of synthetic material intended to absorb shocks.
- the adjustment devices of the prior art are not entirely satisfactory because they do not allow a sufficiently precise adjustment or they require removal of the helmet to make these adjustments. In addition, they are generally complicated to implement and sometimes require long and tedious manipulations. Thus, the positive adjustment devices of the prior art have drawbacks related to the implementation, their use and their reliability.
- the present invention aims to solve the aforementioned problems using simple, reliable means, easy to implement and inexpensive. It offers a protective helmet whose adjustment device is easy to use, fast and precise so as to favor the adaptation of the helmet to the size of the user's head.
- the protective helmet of the invention is of the type formed by a shell intended to protect the head of a user and comprising an internal covering which has a head circumference of adjustable size thanks to an adjustment device and is characterized in that the adjustment device comprises two gripping members intended to be brought closer or apart manually by the user to vary the size of the head circumference.
- the head circumference comprises a part of the main strip, two adjustment extensions extending at the ends of the main strip and carrying the gripping members as well as a connecting piece having locking means intended to cooperate with the adjustment extensions.
- the cooperation between the adjustment extensions and the locking means of the connecting piece is effected by a rack system.
- the head circumference is arranged inside the shell of the helmet so that the connecting piece is positioned at the rear of the helmet and that the gripping members are arranged substantially in the zone corresponding to the neck of the user.
- the gripping members are arranged at the end of the adjustment extensions and have a transverse support surface extending downwards (BA) below plans containing the main panel and the adjustment extensions.
- the protective helmet of the invention is characterized in that it comprises elastic biasing means disposed between the connecting piece and the adjustment extensions or the strip to solicit the head circumference towards its loosened position against the locking means.
- the elastic biasing means are formed by two deflection arms connecting the adjustment extensions to the connecting piece and which urge said extensions thanks to their own elasticity.
- the locking means consist of two locking loops which each include a locking lever carrying a locking projection intended to cooperate with notches arranged on the external face of the adjustment extensions and which also each comprise an unlocking member.
- the adjustment extensions comprise at their end, at the level of their gripping members, a guide pin intended to guide the sliding of the adjustment extensions relative to the means for locking the connecting piece by sliding each in a guide light disposed in the connecting piece.
- the gripping members are spaced apart by a distance of less than 15 centimeters.

'mountaineer, cyclist or any other kind of helmet without departing from the scope of the invention.
- this is a fireman's helmet (1) as shown in Figures 1 and 2. It consists of an outer shell (2) advantageously unitary intended to wrap the head of the user and an internal covering (10) disposed inside the shell to allow positioning and tightening thereof around the head.
- This covering (10) comprises in particular a cap (4) formed by a flexible wall or a retaining net (9) and a head circumference (5) whose size is adjustable by means of an adjustment device ( 6).
- the head circumference (5) is intended to enclose the head of the user to promote the maintenance of the helmet once it is in place.
- the adjustment device (6) thus makes it possible to vary the useful length of the head circumference.
- the adjusting device (6) of the invention comprises two gripping members (7a, 7b) intended to be actuated manually by the user in order to be separated or brought closer to each other, their operation allowing the diameter of the head circumference to be varied ( 5).
- These gripping members (7a, 7b) extend downwards (BA) below the head circumference (5) and more precisely below the plane containing the lower edge of the head circumference to facilitate their gripping by the user. and their actuation when the helmet (1) is placed on its head.
- the head circumference (5) is constituted by a main strip part (8), by two adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) arranged at the free ends of the strip (8), by a connecting piece (12) and by locking means (13) carried by the connecting piece and intended to cooperate with the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b).
- the cooperation between the locking means (13) and the extensions (11a, 11b) can be obtained by any means such as for example using a rack system as shown in the illustrated embodiment or by systems equivalent, such as by jamming or the like.
- the main strip part (8) forms at least half of the circumference of the head circumference (5).
- the gripping members (7a, 7b) are carried by the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) so as to extend below the head circumference ( 5).
- the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) carry on their external face a set of notches (14) intended to cooperate with the locking member (13a) of a loop (13) which forms the locking means.
- These extensions (11a, 11b) comprise at one of their ends the gripping member (7a, 7b) and at the other end, fixing or assembly means such as a light (15) to be each assembled at a end of the main strip (8) so as to form an extension thereof.
- each adjustment extension (la, 11b) comprises a first portion of longitudinal wall (16a) intended to extend the main strip and a second portion of longitudinal wall (16b) integral with the first portion (16a) and which carries the set of notches (14).
- These two portion of walls being offset relative to each other to be located in two separate planes (PI, P2), the second portion of wall (16b) being located below the first (16a).
- This second wall portion (16b) carries at its free end the gripping member (7a, 7b) which is formed at least in part of a transverse wall portion which is orthogonal to it.
- This member thus has a bearing surface (17) sufficient to allow the user to request it, said surface extending transversely below the second wall portion (16b) of the adjustment extension (11a, 11b).
- the assembly of the extensions (11a, 11b) on the main strip part (8) by means of the fixing means (15) can be carried out in several positions as shown in FIG. 4, the light (15) extensions being capable of cooperating with several positioning pins (18) of the strip (8).
- this plurality of possible assemblies multiplies the possibilities of adjusting the size of the head circumference (15) by advantageously combining with the adjustment device (6) of the invention. It goes without saying that one would not go outside the protective field of the invention by making the strip and its adjustment extensions in one piece.
- the locking loops (13) intended to cooperate with the extensions (11a, 11b) are carried by a rear connecting piece (12) which partly forms the head circumference (5).
- the head circumference (5) is arranged in the helmet so that the connecting piece (12) is disposed centrally behind the helmet (1) substantially at the level of the user's neck.
- This connecting piece advantageously comprises two guide slots (19) intended to cooperate with a guide pin (20) of each of the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) illustrated in FIG. 10b. It carries at its lateral ends two loops (13) illustrated in FIGS. 8a to 8d, each forming a passage (21) for the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) and each carrying a locking member (13a) such as a central lever provided with a locking projection (22) intended to cooperate with the notches (14) to allow the extension of the extension (11a, 11b) in the passage (21) only in a direction corresponding to the tightening of the head circumference and to prevent any sliding in the opposite direction.
- the locking loops (13) comprise, in a manner known per se, a locking device (23) intended to urge the lever (13a) and its projection (22) so that the latter is no longer engaged with the notches (14 ) and that the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) can slide in the opposite direction and thus make it possible to loosen the head circumference (5).
- the unlocking member (23) is a lever pivotally mounted on the body of the buckle (13) and intended to cooperate with the locking lever (13a) by the 'through additional ramps in a manner known per se.
- the head circumference (5) has elastic biasing means (25) intended to bias it towards its loosened position (A) illustrated in FIGS. 5a and 6a, that is to say its position where the gripping members (7a, 7b) abut against the loops (13) of the workpiece link.
- the elastic biasing means (25) urge the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) to slide in their passage (21) towards their loosened position.
- the elastic biasing means consist of two deflection arms (25) formed by extensions of the rear connecting piece (12) and which connect said piece (12) to the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b ).
- the deflection arms fold as shown in FIGS. 6a to 6c, thus requesting the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) against the locking means (13, 22 ).
- the guide means (20) are located at the end of the adjustment extensions, at the level of the gripping members (7a, 7b) for sliding in the slots (19) of the connecting piece (12) located between the two locking loops (13). Furthermore, when the head circumference (5) is in the released position (A), the gripping members (7a, 7b) are spaced a distance (d) less than 15 centimeters and advantageously equal to approximately 8 centimeters in order to facilitate their actuation by the user.
- the constituent elements of the head circumference (5) namely the main strip part (8) the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b), the locking and unlocking means (13, 22, 23), the connecting piece and its deflection arms (12, 25) are made of plastic by any process, such as by injection.
- the main strip part (8) and the connecting piece (12) may have padding on their internal face intended to give comfort to the user. This padding can advantageously be glued or sewn on the strip (8) or it can be disposed in a removable manner such as for example using a Velcro type fastener (registered trademark).
- the helmet of the invention (1) comprises a vertical plane (P) of general symmetry, and that it comprises means allowing the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) to move symmetrically relative to this plane ( P).
- These means are in the embodiment described above constituted by the elastic means (25) which mean that when the user unlocks his strip, by virtue of his action on the unlocking members (23), the said elastic means act simultaneously and jointly to push symmetrically each of the adjustment extensions (11a, 11b).
- FIGS. 12a, 12b illustrate a variant according to which the displacement of one of the adjustment extensions (11a, or 11b) causes the displacement of the other adjustment extension (11b, or 11a).
- the two adjustment extensions (11a, 11b) are mechanically and kinematically connected by a central transmission pinion (30) pivotally mounted on the connecting piece (12) in the general plane (P). It will be noted that said pinion (30) cooperates by diametric meshing with two additional extensions (31a, 31b) of the main strip, extending the adjustment extensions (lla, 11b).
- the device also includes the elastic means (25) of the first embodiment.
- the elastic means consist of an elastic system, not shown, such as a spring which acts on the transmission pinion (30).
