Abstract

The invention relates to attachment apparatus (1) for attachment of a training device (2) to a fixed substrate including an aperture, the apparatus (1) comprising a first body part (3) dimensioned to be received in and through the aperture and a second body part (4) dimensioned to be substantially usable to fit in and through the aperture.

Description

ATTACHMENT APPARATUS
The invention relates to attachment apparatus and in particular attachment apparatus for a training or sports device.
Training devices for use in exercising and training for sports are known. One particular type of training device requires the user to exert a force against the resistance of a device such as a spring for example to improve muscle tone or strength or technique. For the device to function properly to provide resistance to the user it must either be held by the user or secured to a fixed substrate. Such devices are often used in the home and in those circumstances especially it is desirable to have a device which is both easily attached to and detached from a fixed substrate, as well as providing a secure attachment. It is further desirable with certain devices for the position of the attachment to be variable relative to the ground to enable a wide range of exercises or training movements to be performed.
It is an object of the present invention to provide apparatus which seeks to address these problems.
According to the present invention there is provided attachment apparatus for attachment of a training device to a fixed substrate including an aperture, the apparatus including a first body part dimensioned to be received in and through the aperture and a second body part dimensioned to be substantially unable to fit in and through the aperture.
The apparatus may comprise a strip or length of a flexible material and may preferably be formed into a loop, with the first body part comprising a major portion of the loop, and the second body part comprising a thickening formed in the material of the loop at one point.
The second body part may include a relatively hard core, such as for example a dowel, a ball-bearing or the like.
The apparatus may include a fixing point for attachment ot a further device, the fixing point being for example, an eye.
According to a second aspect of the invention there is provided a training device for use in training for a sport or for performing an exercise, the device comprising attachment apparatus as defined hereinabove and an elongate resilient member, the member being attached at one end to the attachment apparatus and including at its other end attachment means for removable attachment of a sports device or hand-grip.
The elongate resilient member may comprise a length or strip or tube of a rubber material.
The attachment means may be a re leasable cleat or shackle.
The invention will further be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of apparatus according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the apparatus of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a device according to a second aspect of the invention.
Referring in particular to Figures 1 and 2 there is illustrated attachment apparatus 1 for attachment of a training device 2 to a fixed substrate including an aperture (not shown) the apparatus 1 comprising a first body part 3 dimensioned to be received in and through the aperture and a second body part 4 dimensioned to be substantially unable to fit in and through the aperture.
In this example the apparatus 1 comprises a length or strip of a woven, flexible material formed into a loop. The first body part 3 is made up of the major part of the strip as shown. The second body part 4 comprises a thickening formed in the loop by in this example securing a piece of dowel into a loop within the loop, as shown. The second body part 4 thus is thicker relative to the first body part 3. At another part of the loop an eye 5 is provided for the attachment of a training device thereto.
As will be appreciated, the relative sizes of the first and second body parts will vary depending on the size of the aperture for which the apparatus is intended. In this example, the intended aperture is the gap between a door or window and its frame.
Referring to Figure 3 a second aspect of the invention is illustrated. Attached to the attachment apparatus of Figures 1 and 2 via the eye 5 is an elongate resilient member 6 which in this embodiment is a length of a rubber or similar material tube. The tube is fixed to the attachment apparatus 1 in any convenient manner but in this case a plug is inserted into the end of the tube passed through the eye 5 which prevents it from being withdrawn therethrough.
At the other end of the member 6 there is provided a shackle of known type which is attached to the tube conveniently by turning the end of the tube back upon itself and securing the end of the tube to itself thereby forming a loop 7.
In use, the apparatus i illustrated in this example is fixed by placing the first body part 3 between a door or window and its frame, the door or window then being closed on the first body part 3 such that the second body part protrudes from one side and the elongate resilient member 6, via the first body part 3, protrudes from the other. As will be apparent, if a force is exerted on the attachment apparatus 1 in the direction away from the door the second body part 4 prevents the apparatus 1 becoming detached as it is dimensioned so as not to be able to fit through the gap between the door and frame.
The attachment apparatus 1 can be placed at any height between an upright part of the frame and the door or alternatively between a horizontal part of the frame and the door if desired and is thus positionally fully flexible. In addition, provision of the device as a loop allows the attachment apparatus to be held in the hand of a user, to be secured about a fixed object such as a door handle or even attached to a user's foot.
When the attachment apparatus 1 is in place, the user can exert a force against the resistance of the resilient member to perform an exercise which can be for example a simple movement of an arm or leg for strengthening or toning, or could be a more complex action such as a golf swing, a tennis shot, a fishing casting action or a throwing action such as bowling or throwing a javelin, a shotput or a discus. To assist in the execution of a sporting action the shackle at the other end of the elongate resilient member 6 enables a part of or a whole sports article to be attached, such as a tennis racket handle, a cricket handle, a cricket ball, a golf club handle or a fishing rod handle or alternatively the entire sports article itself.
