Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for connecting a telephone switch to a fixed telephone network via a radiotelephone network, one (or more) fixed radiotelephone telephone terminal making it possible to replace a cable link.
- Each fixed radiotelephone terminal performs functions similar to those of a conventional portable radiotelephone terminal, but it connects a switch to the fixed telephone network instead of connecting a single user.
- the device according to the invention can be used to connect to a public telephone network a switch serving a hotel, or a village, located in an isolated region where the laying of a cable or other terrestrial infrastructure would be too costly.
- This switch serves a group of fixed user terminals by routing calls arriving from the public network.
- Each radiotelephone terminal is used successively for different user terminals, since these are not used permanently.
- Several radiotelephone terminals can share the same frequency band thanks to a distribution over time, or by code.
- the invention relates more particularly to radio telephone networks of the GSM type, and those of types derived from the GSM type which will comprise a stationary satellite or scrolling satellites.
- GSM-type networks have the following characteristics:
- a gateway manages the resources of each cell, with regard to the carrier frequencies and the plurality of channels carried by each carrier frequency.
- At least one switching center in the mobile radio service manages calls, connections with the fixed telephone network, and databases containing: the directory number, the international mobile subscriber number, and the location of each subscriber mobile.
- Conventional GSM networks are not designed so that several subscribers use the same user terminal.
- the user personalizes the terminal he uses by inserting an identification card called SIM (Subscriber identification module) containing an international mobile subscriber identity called IMSI (international mobile subscriber identity), which determines the account on which will be billed. the calls.
- IMSI international mobile subscriber identity
- TMSI Temporal mobile subscriber identity
- an authentication procedure uses a secret key contained in the card SIM identification, to prevent a fraudster from using the IMSI identity or the TMSI identity of another user, when a call is made and when a call is received.
- the document GB 2 293 524 describes a method making it possible to solve these problems, but it requires modifying certain equipment of the radiotelephone network used.
- the object of the invention is to propose a device which solves the problems mentioned above, while allowing the use, without modification, of a GSM network or a derivative of the GSM type.
- the object of the invention is a device for connecting a telephone switch to a fixed telephone network via a radiotelephone network; a plurality of user terminals being connected to this telephone switch; this device comprising at least one fixed radiotelephone terminal comprising means for communicating with this radiotelephone network, and being characterized in that it comprises means for authenticating this radiotelephone terminal by using the same key for all the calls received or transmitted via this terminal fixed radiotelephone.
- the device thus characterized does not require modification of a conventional or derived GSM network. It is sufficient to assign the same key to all the user terminals connected to the switch in question.
- the international mobile subscriber identities, IMSI, identified by this device are identical to n digits; n being an integer lower than the total number of digits that an international subscriber identity contains.
- the device thus characterized is particularly simple to make and it makes it possible to use a conventional SIM identification card, simply by masking n digits among the digits constituting the IMSI identity read on this SIM card: 10 "fixed user terminals can be distinguished by assigning them the same IMSI identity to n numbers.
- the device thus characterized does not require modifying the GSM network used, because it makes it possible to use an international identity of mobile subscriber IMSI, respectively a temporary identity of mobile subscriber TMSI, different for each user terminal connected to the switch, as if it were a mobile radiotelephone terminal, although in fact the device comprises one or more fixed radiotelephone terminals which are used in common by a certain number of user terminals
- the GSM network can therefore establish a separate invoice for each fixed user terminal, as it conventionally does for mobile terminals
- the device also comprises means for extracting, from the SETUP message received for the establishment of each call, the directory number of the user terminal which is called, and signaling means for sending this number at the switch, in order to select the user terminal which is called
- the device thus characterized allows direct selection of a called user terminal, when a call arrives, without requiring modification at the GSM or derivative network level, although such a function is not provided in GSM standards
- the device also comprises means for periodically performing a location procedure, for all the international mobile subscriber identities, IMSI, which correspond respectively to the user terminals which are connected to this switch, or for the corresponding temporary mobile subscriber identities, TMSI, when these have been assigned
- the device thus characterized allows the GSM network to determine the geographical area where these user terminals connected to a switch are located, by applying the conventional procedure for locating GSM terminals, without requiring modification at the GSM or derivative network level.
- FIG. 1 represents the block diagram of an embodiment of the device according to the invention, in an example of application
- FIG. 2 shows a time diagram illustrating the operation of the device according to the invention, when establishing a communication in this example application
- FIG. 1 represents the block diagram of an example of application of the device according to the invention, for providing the services of a national switched telephone network, PSTN (Public switched telephone network), to an IC community located in an isolated region
- PSTN Public switched telephone network
- This isolated community IC is served by a switch SW to which ten conventional telephone terminals UT1,, UT10 are connected, for example
- the switch SW is linked to a national switched telephone network, PSTN, via a radiotelephony network PLMN ( Public land mobile network), type derived from GSM type
- PLMN Public land mobile network
- the PLMN network comprises a geostationary satellite or scrolling satellites, and mainly serves mobile radiotelephone terminals PT
- a switching center for the mobile radio service, MSC (Mobile service switching center) is connected to a satellite S by a gateway G which maintains a radio link with the satellite S
- the switch SW is connected by a conventional telephone cable to a fixed radiotelephone terminal RT
- the latter comprises, in particular, an identification card reading device, SIM, and it comprises a processor P provided of a program which determines the operation of this terminal
- the operation of the RT terminal is identical to that of a conventional radiotelephone terminal, of the type
- GSM Global System for Mobile communications
- a preferred embodiment consists in using a conventional radiotelephone terminal by modifying only the program of the processor P, in order to carry out the functions specific to the device according to the invention
- the RT terminal must identify a set of ten IMSI identities and a set of ten TMSI identities.
- the conventional software is modified to mask a predetermined number among the digits constituting the IMSI identity read on this card. SIM, before comparing it to the IMSI identity contained in a received message
- ten fixed user terminals can be distinguished by assigning them the same IMSI identity, to within one digit
- the masked figure is useful, on the other hand, to the PLMN II network makes it possible to distinguish the ten fixed user terminals UT1,, UT10, in particular so as to be able to bill their calls independently
- the conventional software is modified to - memorizing ten temporary TMSI identities, when ten arbitrary TMSI identities are assigned by the radiotelephone network PLMN respectively to the ten terminals UT1, ..., UT10;
- each can have a SIM identity card, but preferably with the same IMSI identity, so that any fixed radio terminal can be used for communications from any user terminal.
- means must be provided to coordinate all the fixed radio terminals, so as to avoid having several terminals answer a single call simultaneously.
- the authentication function of the fixed radio terminal RT is carried out in a conventional manner because it authenticates the fixed radio terminal RT, and not each user terminal individually. It uses a secret key contained in the SIM card and which is common for all these terminals UT1, ..., UT10.
- each can have a SIM identity card, but with the same secret key, so that any fixed radio terminal can be used for communications of n any user terminal.
- the direct selection function is carried out according to the following process which does not require modification of the PLMN radiotelephone network, because it is provided for in the GSM standard:
- the MSC center sends a message called SETUP and which contains the directory number of the called user terminal, in accordance with GSM standards.
- the software of the processor P is modified to extract, from the SETUP message received for the establishment of each call, the directory number of the user terminal which is called; and to send this number to the switch SW, in the form of conventional signaling messages, in order to allow the switch to select the user terminal, which is called.
- each is capable of performing this function.
- FIG. 2 represents a time diagram illustrating the operation of the device according to the invention, during the establishment of a communication between a user terminal UTO connected to the PSTN network and a user terminal UT2 of the isolated community IC: 1) A user picks up the handset from the UTO terminal and dials the directory number for the UT2 terminal.
- a switching center in the PSTN network sends a message to a switching center MSC in the mobile radio service a message requesting the establishment of a communication with the terminal UT2 designated by the directory number.
- the MSC center consults the PLMN network databases to find out the identity of the IMSI or TMSI mobile subscriber corresponding to the directory number, and the geographical area where the called terminal is located, in the same way as for a classic mobile terminal. He then knows that the called terminal is in one of the geographic zones served by the satellite S. Via the gateway G and the satellite S, it transmits in this zone a search message from the terminal designated by this identity IMSI or TMSI.
- the fixed radiotelephone terminal RT receives this message. If the message contains an IMSI identity, the RT terminal compares the IMSI identity received with the IMSI identity stored in its SIM card, to one digit. If the message contains a TMSI identity, the terminal RT compares the TMSI identity received with those stored. It is thus able to recognize one of the ten IMSI identities or TMSI identities corresponding to the terminals UT1, ..., UT10. In this case the comparison has a positive result. It then sends a message to the SW switch to indicate the arrival of a call.
- the switch SW responds to it with a message requesting the transmission of the first digit of the directory number of the terminal requested.
- the terminal RT requests the gateway G, via the satellite S, the allocation of a radio channel for telephone communication.
- Gateway G assigns a radio channel to the RT terminal.
- the terminal RT then sends a positive response to the search message to the switching center MSC of the mobile radio service.
- the RT terminal and the MSC switching center then exchange messages to authenticate the RT terminal, according to the GSM standardized procedure or a derived procedure.
- the terminal RT uses the same secret key, contained in the SIM card, whatever the terminal UT1, ..., UT10, which is called.
- they initialize the encryption / decryption of the speech signals, according to the standardized GSM procedure or a derived procedure.
- the terminal RT uses the same encryption key, calculated from the secret key contained in the SIM card, whatever the terminal UT1, ..., UT10, which is called.
- the center MSC requests the terminal RT to establish the communication, by sending it a message called SETUP and which contains the directory number of the called user terminal.
- the terminal RT will send it to the switch SW to select the user terminal which is called.
- the RT terminal confirms to the MSC center that communication has been established.
- the terminal RT sends the first digit of the directory number to the switch SW.
- the switch SW acknowledges receipt of this first digit, and requests the transmission of the second digit.
- the RT terminal sends the switch the second digit of the directory number.
- the MSC center retransmits the alert message to the PSTN network.
- the terminal RT requests the switching center MSC to connect the requesting terminal UTO.
- the MSC center transmits this request to the PSTN network, then it confirms the execution of this request with the RT terminal.
- the scope of the invention is not limited to radiotelephone networks using satellites, which are derived from networks of the GSM type.
- the invention can be applied to conventional GSM type networks.
