Description

Method and device to perform an accurate attachment of a component
The present invention relates to a method and a device to perform an accurate attachment och a component, e.g. a countersunk wall panel for an electrical socket and/or an antenna socket, in and/or over e.g. a recess in a wall. More exactly the present invention relates to a technique making it possible to accept a lack of accuracy in the dimension of e.g. a recess which recess the component will cover.
When mounting e.g. a countersunk wall panel with sockets for electricity and/or socets for an antenna cord a certain trimming allowance is important.
The human eye is extremly sensible and will react on small deviations from a correct attachement of covering sheets and panel components.
Thus the problem to be solved according to the present invention is that with a first component, with a bad dimensional accurancy to the surroundings, attach a second component in an exact position to said surroundings, i.e. with a trimming allowance to said first component.
A main object of the present invention is to obtain a technique making it possible to attach components in an exact position by having a trirnrning allowance between the components. Thus it can be a simple attachment in a correct position of covering panel components in interior decorations.
This object is obtained by a method and a device having the characterizing clauses mentioned in the claims.
The technique according to the present invention shall be described in connection to the fitting up of a wall terminal box for a countersunk wall socket where an open recess - often manually made in a hewn process - shall be covered with a cover plate being a part of the wall socket and being parallel and/or in flush with the surrounding wall plane. Thus the exact accuracy of dimension will not be a determining factor to perform an exact attachment of the wall socket/wall plate.
In the figures an embodiment of the method according to the invention is shown; where
Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic view from behind of a plate with threaded trunnion means and a panel component intended to be adjustably attached to the trunnion means; Fig. 2a and fig. 2b show sections of the device accordning to the invention in connection to the fitting into a recess in a wall, wherein fig. 7 a showing the preparatory and fig. lb the final phase, respectively of the fitting;
Fig. 3a and fig. 3b are bottom views on a small scale showing in one hand how the recess in the socket and the screw hole in the trunnion means will not register at first, and in the other hand how the trunnion means is revolved to register with said screw hole to fit the screw; and wherein
Fig. 4 elucidates the trimming allowance by showing examples of three different positions of the outer covering panel in the hight direction and in the traverse dircection.
In fig. 1 a panel component 1 is shown, the central part of which can carry a combined arrangement for electricity or for an antenna (shown with dotted lines) and being fitted to a plate 2 by two trunnion means 4 and 4'. The fitting takes place by using socket and/or snapping means 3 and 3' in connection to the panel compo¬ nent. Means 3 and 3' are displacably arranged during a snapping action by out¬ wards resilient interlockin trunnion means 3a and 3'a, respectively - see fig. 2. These interlocking trunnion means are preferably made integral with the panel component 1 which will be described in detalj below in connection to fig. 2.
In fig. 2 is shown how the plate 2 with peg means 4 and 4' are brought into a recess in a wall A. The wall A can be of light concrete or of bricks and the recess can be manually hewn, and the accuracy of dimensions will not be excessive regarding to the exact width and depth of the recess B. In the position shown in fig. 2a the device according to the invention is being brought to a correct position to cover the recess in the wall A. The edge lb of the panel 1 overlap the recess B and will - see fig. 2b -, in a final fitted position, bear on the wall portion surround¬ ing the recess B. During the fittning of the panel component 1 towards the wall the socket means 3b will be displaced during a snapping action in relation to the resilient interlocking trunnion means 3a. This will happen as soon as the peg means 4, 4' have come to bear on the bottoms of the socket means 3b, in which bottoms notches 9 admitting passing of screws 6 are arranged. The socket means 3b will be displaced in relation to the panel component 1 and to the resilient interlocking trunnion means 3a related thereto during a snapping action which is such that a displacement in just one direction between the interlockning trunnion means and the socket means is possible. After that an interlocking of the panel component will be possible when this has come to bear on the wall portion surrounding the recess B, which is the position shown in fig. 2b.
In fϊg. 3a and 3b the position of the peg means 4 is shown in relation to the socket means 3b and in the notch 9 arranged therein. An adjustment so that the peg means will be positioned exactly in register with the notch 9 will take place in revolving the socket means 3 ln doing so the threaded holes in the peg means 4 and 4' will be acessible by the notches 9 in the bottoms of the socket means to attain fastning means, e.g. and preferably machine screws 6. It is preferred to first tighten the screws 6 with a reduced force to perform a final adjustment of the position of the panel component 1 at the wall A. The limits of such an adjustment of the panel component 1 is shown in fig. 4. It shall be noted that an adjustment according to what is shown in fig. 4 can be performed both at the upper and the lower fixing of the peg means 4 and 4' respectively. It is also possible to revolve or twist the panel component 1 during the adjustment. After a final adjustment the screws 6 are finally tightend.
The invention is not restricted to the shown embodiment but modifications can be done within the scope of the following claims.
