Description
The subject of the present invention is a hand tool for opening metal beverage cans comprising a ring tongue, it relates to the adaptation of the tool device patented under number 92-08825, of the present applicant, intended for opening tin cans with opening by pulling ring and line of least resistance, this tool consisting of a metallic element in the shape of a "spout" carried by a handle of cylindrical section providing a handle for manipulation, the assembly comprises two hooks, one located under the spout and oriented towards the end of it, and the other placed laterally along the handle, they successively ensure, by leverage, the lifting of the ring, then the traction by winding the box cover.
The adaptation, which is the subject of this text, modifies the existing tool for cans by reducing on the one hand its dimensions considerably to end up with those of a pocket utensil of the style of a penknife whose general morphology recalls that of a small spoon, and on the other hand by bringing it complementary and new functions.
Orr constate alors que :Beverage cans generally consist of a cylindrical hollow body forming a container, and a substantially flat cover ensuring the closure of the body by crimping. The emptying of the liquid contained is provided by an orifice in the form of a seal, itself delimited on the surface by a slight incision made in the thickness of the constituent metal (line technique of least resistance). To cause detachment of the cover, the box cover is equipped, by mechanical fixing (clinching technique or false rivet), with a tongue-ring which, by its tilting, ensures the operation. Orr then notes that:
1° - la manipulation de cette languette-anneau compte tenu de ses dimensions et de son accessibilité, se fait forcément du bout des doigts ;1 ° - the manipulation of this tongue-ring taking into account its dimensions and its accessibility, is necessarily done with the fingertips;
2° - la rupture brusque, la pénétration de l'opercule d'ouverture dans le contenu, et la présence d'une pression due à la boisson elle- même, ou bien consécutive des déformations du corps et du couver¬ cle de boîte, entraîne assez souvent une légère projection de particules liquides à l'extérieur de la boîte et consécutivement sur les doigts qui manipulent la languette ;
L'outil selon l'invention apporte sur ces 3 points un confort d'utilisation appréciable.2 ° - the sudden rupture, the penetration of the opening seal in the contents, and the presence of a pressure due to the drink itself, or consecutive to deformations of the body and of the can lid, quite often causes a slight projection of liquid particles outside the box and consecutively on the fingers which manipulate the tongue; 3 ° - for some users who consume the drink directly, the packaging then serving as a cup, the ring-tongue, in this case, must be returned to its initial position to clear access to the drain opening. The tool according to the invention provides appreciable user comfort on these 3 points.
According to a first characteristic, the invention relates to a device constituting a hand tool intended for the opening of metal beverage cans equipped with an opening system by tongue-ring, of the type comprising a handle equipped at the end with a support spout behind which, over a distance corresponding to the length of the ring tabs, a hook open towards the front is arranged at the bottom, intended to receive the ring tongue for lifting it while the support spout exerts a pressure on the front part of said tongue beyond its point of attachment, and on the opening cap of the box, when the tool is actuated by the operator according to a lever principle.
Selon d'autres caractéristiques, le manche de l'outil porte en extrémité arrière un trou destiné à l'accrochage de l'outil à un anneau porte-clefs ou bien une chaînette de service (cas d'emploi de l'outil par professionnels débitants de boissons par exemple).The hook consists of a blade folded at 90 ° so as to defne a shovel of thickness progressively thinner at the end so as to be able to be inserted between the tongue-ring and the box cover by introduction into the spacing available existing between the rear of the tongue and the crimped edge of the box cover, characterized by a slight protrusion of the sides of the tool which frame the tongue-ring so as to admit the various models of it and allowing a correct positioning of the tool with respect to the tongue, by self-centering, and in that the shovel hook comprises, located parallel to it, a counter-shovel element ensuring support by wedging the tongue when the tool is returned to its first position after opening the box. According to other characteristics, the handle of the tool carries at the rear end a hole intended for the attachment of the tool to a key ring or else a service chain (case of use of the tool by professionals serving drinks for example).
