Abstract
The present invention relates to a hanging seat provided with seat plane (1), seat back (2) turnably attached thereto, and armrests (3) turnably attached to the seat back. On each side of the seat, a rope (14) moves slidingly. The seat always conforms to the size and the distribution of the weight of the occupant. In addition, the seat can be collapsed into a small space without detaching the parts from each other.
Description
Seat
Background of the invention
The present invention relates to the field of furniture and concerns a hanging seat.
Various hanging seats used for instance as outdoor furniture are known in the art, said seats being attachable with ropes or chains to a suspension means above the seat. A drawback related to prior art seats is for instance, that the seats are fixed in shape or at least difficult to adjust.
US. reference No. 4,244,622 discloses a hanging chair com¬ prised of transverse slats connected with ropes at the edges.
Reference DE 36 39 474 discloses a hanging seat which is pro¬ vided with two ropes on each side with the aid of which the seat has been hung at the front and rear ends of the armrests. In addition, the seat is provided with two separate ropes at¬ tached slidingly to the suspension ropes, wherewith the inclination of the feet support and the back rest can be adjusted.
Description of the invention
In the present context a hanging seat as presented in claim 1 is disclosed. Preferred applications of the invention are presented in the other claims.
The essential aspect in the invention is the rope passing on both sides of the seat via the front end of the armrest, the front end of the seat part, the rear end of the seat part and the rear end of the armrest or the seat back to an attachment point above the seat. Between the front end of the armrest and the seat part, most advantageously an intgermediate support is provided, via which the rope also passes. The ropes form most
preferredly one united rope. Preferredly, one more crossing intermediate rod is provided above the seat, via which the ropes pass.
It can be understood that the expression rope refers in the present context also to cables, chains or equivalent elements which can be used in implementing the invention.
An embodiment of the invention is described below in greater detail.
In the drawings of the description Fig. 1 presents a seat in side view and Fig. 2 presents the seat in front view.
The main parts of the seat as shown in the figures are seat plane 1, seat back 2 and armrests 3.
The seat plane 1 is provided with edge supports 4 supported to which seat boards 5 have been attached transversely. Also the seat back is provided with edge supports 6 and seat back boards 7 have been attached thereto. The edge supports 4 of the seat plane have at the rear ends been attached to the lower ends of the edge supports 6 of the seat back so with the aid of lock screws 8 that the seat plane and the seat back are pivotable relative to each other. The edge supports 4 are here located outside the edge supports 6. The armrests 3 have in turn been attached at the rear ends to the edge supports 6 of the seat back, to the outside thereof, with the aid of lock screws 9 so that the armrests can be turned relative to the seat back.
For the lock screws 8 and 9, the edge supports 4 and 6 and the amrests 3 can be provided with a plurality of holes, whereby the proportions of the seat part l, the seat back 2 and the armrest 3 can be adjusted.
The rear ends of the armrests 3 are provided with vertical holes 10 and the front ends thereof, with holes 11. The edge supports 4 of the seat plane are similarly provided with holes 12 and 13. Through said holes a united rope 14 passes, first through the holes of one edge of the seat and then, through the support ring 15 thereabove, through the holes of the other edge of the seat. The ends of the rope 14 have been best joined in the proximity of the support ring 15.
Between the front end of the armrests 3 and the front edge of the seat plane 1, vertical interemediate pieces 16 have furthermore been disposed, being provided with longitudinal holes 17 through which the rope 14 passes.
Below the support ring 15, one more crossing spreader rod 18 is provided, with vertical holes 19 and 19' at the ends, through which the rope 14 passes. The height of the spreader rod can be vertically adjusted.
The body structure of the seat can be made e.g. of 28x45 mm birch thick board and the boards of the seat back of e.g. 15x45 birch board. The corners are rounded and the surfaces are handled in appropriate manner. The thickness of the rope can be, e,g, 15 mm.
In producing the seat, any materials serving the purpose may be used, such as timber-based boards or plastics.
Thanks to the turning juncture of the seat part 1, the seat back 2 and the armrest 3, the seat back moves freely as de¬ sired by the occupant. The distribution of the weight of the occupant modifies the angle between the seat back 2 and the seat part 1 to be appropriate.
Relative to the horizontal plane, the angle of the seat part 1 may adjusted by letting the rope 14 run through the holes in the desired direction.
Thanks to the spreader rod 18, the person sitting in the seat has more space in lateral direction. With the spreader rod 18, the rotation of the seat can also be reduced.
The seat can be folded into a very small space during shipping or storage. For instance, the seat shown in the figures can be folded to a size of about 15x60x90 cm. However, the seat is always rapid to erect for use without any tools.
