Description
CELLULAR TELEPHONE USER'S PROTECTIVE DEVICE
1. Field of the invention.
The invention relates to providing some protection to the operators of Lap-top and Note-Book Computers from the electro-magnetic fields emitted therefrom and to afford a comfortable cushion when the computer is being used on the lap.

Lap-Top Computer Operators Protective Device by Joseph M.
Katz Filed May 31, 1991, Ser. No. 708,222, Pat.
No.5,134,245. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION.
There is much concern throughout the world that electro¬ magnetic fields radiation from Lap-Top and Notebook computers can cause genetic defects, cancer and other bodily harms when the computer is in close contact to the body.
The Lap-top and Notebook computers have become very popular with executives and travelling business persons since they can sit in an airplane seat, an automobile, a train and the like, put the computer on their lap and utilize travelling time to get work done, play games or otherwise amuse themselves to pass time away.
Also, since the computer is small and compact, many use it at a work station. However, since the screen is small and the writing on it is dull, the operators have a tendency to bend over close to the computer and expose themselves to emitted electro-magnetic fields radiation.
The lap-top and notebook computers, being electric, emits electro-magnetic fields radiation. The fact that being placed on the lap and in close contact to critical genetic and bodily organs, the danger is apparent. Furthermore, the weight of the computer causes uncomfortableness. Also, at the workstation, danger from close body contact is a hazard.
Because of the hazards and uncomfortableness, this device was invented. Its purpose is to provide a one piece light weight portable unit with a comfortable cushion to rest the computer upon as well as to afford some protection against electro-magnetic fields radiation so that they by-pass the computer operator, thereby providing some protection to the genetic and. bodily organs. Portability, light weight, protection, comfort and separability are all functions of the device.
The device is simple to use. It is manufactured into a single one piece unit consisting of a lightweight, firm material, box-like open at the top tray, electromagnetic radiation shielding and a cushion at the bottom.
The size of the device is manufactured to conform to the measurements of every lap-top and notebook computer manufacturer's specifications.
To use the device, the operator simply places the computer into the box-like tray and places the device either on their lap, work station or other convenient place. A strap or velcro strips to hold the computer into the device for carrying can be attached. Additonal features such as
bendable sides, removable side pieces and side pieces with pull out plugs for the purpose of insertion into the computer of accessories, such as a mouse, modem and discs is a part of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The computer 1. The keyboard 2. The image screen 3. The computer hinge 4. The tray sides 5. The tray base 6. The cushion 7. The electro-magnetic radiation shielding 8. The bending or removable side pieces 9. The side pieces with removable plugs 10.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The invention consists of a tray with 4 upright sides. Electro-magnetic radiation shielding is affixed to the underside of the tray and a cushion is affixed to the underside of the tray with the shielding between the underside of the tray and the cushion. For computers where the electro-magnetic fields are emitted from the sides, rear and front as well as the bottom, the electro-magnetic radiation shielding is affixed to all upright parts of the tray as well as the bottom. In these cases, the firm tray material used for the sides will be doubled, with electro¬ magnetic radiation shielding inserted between the doubled side material for a protective barrier on the sides as well as the bottom, the cushion is affixed to the underside of the tray with electro-magnetic radiation shielding affixed between the underside of the tray and the cushion. The function of the device is to divert the electro-magnetic
fields radiation away from the lap and body of the computer operator and is accomplished by the use of the electro¬ magnetic radiation shielding, thereby providing some protection from the direct electro-magnetic fields radiation. The cushion provides comfortability to the operator when it is used on the operators lap. Also, portability, light weight, protection, acceptance of accessories, comfort and separability are functions of the device.
While various changes may be made in the detailed construction, such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention, as defined by the appended claims.

sides being doubled over at the top and downward to the base of the device to permit electro-magnetic radiation shielding to be inserted and affixed between the doubled over sides;
(b) a first electro-magnetic radiation shielding affixed between the doubled over sides of the tray;
(c) a second electro-matic radiation shielding affixed to the underside of the tray;
(d) a horizontal cushion affixed to the electro-magnetic radiation shielding and the underside of the tray.
3. An assembly for diverting the passage of electro-magnetic energy emitted from a lap-top or notebook computer, said assembly comprising:
(a) a tray having a base and bendable and removable upright sides to permit attachment of accessories to the computer;
(b) an electro-magnetic radiation shielding affixed to the underside of the tray;
(c) a horizontal cushion affixed to the electro-magnetic radiation shielding and the underside of the base.
4. An assembly for diverting the passage of electro-magnetic energy emitted from a lap-top or notebook computer, said assembly comprising:
(a) a tray having a base and upright sides;
(b) the upright sides have spaced removable plugs to permit inserting computer accessories into the computer;
(c) an electro-magnetic radiation shielding affixed to the
underside of the base of the tray; (d) a horizontal cushion affixed to the electro-magnetic radiation shielding and the underside of the base.
