Dimethyl- formamide (2 drops) was added and the mixture stirred at room temperature for 50 min. and then at reflux for a further 10 min. The solvent was evaported and chloroform was evaporated from the residue twice. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (200ml) and the solution cooled in an ice bath. A stream of diazomethane in argon was then passed into the solution until all the acid chloride was consumed, and then air was passed through the solution to remove excess diazomethane.
