Abstract
A self-cleaning ashtray for motor vehicles, characterized by comprising a duct (2) provided with a collecting container (5) and connected to a suction fan (4) positioned outside the passenger compartment and powered by the vehicle battery.
Description
SELF-CLEANING ASHTRAY FOR MOTOR VEHICLES This invention relates to a self-cleaning ashtray for motor vehicles.
The vehicle driver and passengers generally drop their ash, extinguish their cigarette and deposit its butt in ashtrays provided on the dashboard and/or on the doors.
Thus in the case of vehicles with heavy smokers on board the ashtray or ashtrays require frequent emptying, an operation which if not carried out in the wash station leads to soiling of the persons hands and of the interior of the vehicle in which the ashtray is being emptied.
In addition, especially during cold weather when the passenger compartment is not always subjected to air change, the cigarette smoke not only makes the air in the vehicle ill-smelling but also soils the internal upholstery by "yellowing" it.
An object of the invention is to provide a self-cleaning ashtray for motor vehicles which prevents the emission of bad odours by the ash and cigarette butts deposited within it.
A further object of the invention is to provide a self- cleaning ashtray which enables the air within the passenger compartment to be purified of the smoke.
These objects are attained according to the invention by a self-cleaning ashtray for motor vehicles, characterised by
comprising a duct provided with a collection container and connected to a suction fan positioned outside the passenger compartment and powered by the vehicle battery.
The present invention is further described hereinafter δ with reference to the accompanying drawing which represents a schematic view of a ashtray according to the invention.
As can be seen from the drawing the ashtray 1 according to the invention is provided at its base with a mouth 2 which is connected by a duct 3 to a suction fan 4 positioned in the 0 engine compartment of a motor vehicle.
In the duct 3 upstream of the suction fan 4 there is a container 5 provided with a disposable bag 6 of fireproof material.
The suction fan 4 is connected to the vehicle battery 7, 5 an activation device 8 being provided in the power circuit.
The activation device 8 can be a switch, in which case it is located on the dashboard and operated manually at the rquired time by the driver in the vehicle.
The activation device can alternatively be a 0 microswitch, for eample located on th movable cover 9 of the ashtray and thus automatically operated on opening the ashtray.
Again, the activation device can be a photoelectric cell
located at the aperture of the ashtray, to be operated on opening the ashtray.
The illustrated example relates to a single self- cleaning ashtray, but it is apparent that all the vehicle ashtrays can be provided with a suction duct connected to a main manifold.
