Abstract

This invention relates to a new neurotrophic factor (NTF) isolated and purified from the block of neurofibromata obtained from the patients suffering from the von Recklinghausen disease. The NTF has a polypeptide portion of a molecular weight of 3.000 ± 500 and is a substance which is thermally stable and sensitive to trypsin and proteinase K. This substance promotes the extension of axons of the neurons of a cerebral cortex in a culture medium of a concentration of 1 to 50 ng/ml.
