- a very widely used system when the given area is within buildings comprises an infrared detector which is a very efficient detector in this type of application. In the protection of cars and other similar applications other systems are preferred.
- a very well-known system comprises an ultrasound detector and the system utilizes the Doppler effect. Due to this mode of operation vibrations in the car body and small movements within the car can produce false alarm signals.
- a more reliable system comprises a microwave detector. However, this detector is large and cumbersome and has a narrow beam of radiation.
- a third type of detector system utilizes an electric or electrostatic field. Electric and electrostatic fields emanate from power lines, mains wirings, radio transmitters and the like.
- US 4,504,822 discloses a system where a mains wire is a prerequisite.
- a transmitter is adapted to be connected to the mains wiring, the ground of the mains wiring comprising the transmitting antenna of the system.
- a receiver for receiving the electric field and for detecting the changes in the field is also provided.
- US 3,673,589 discloses a system comprising a probe which carries electric currents brought about by change in an existing surrounding electrostatic field. Said currents are transformed to voltage signals by means of a large value resistance, and said voltage signals are fed to a differential input operational amplifier.
- US 4,346,373 discloses and intrusion warning system wherein a quasi-stationary electric field is produced by a field wire extending substantially parallel to ground.
- An oscillator produces an output signal with a wave length which is very long compared to the length of the field wire.
- First and second field sensing wires are arranged substantially parallel to and vertically displaced from said field wire and disposed on opposite side of said field wire.
- the system further comprises first and second detector means.
- the main feature of this system is that two field sensing wires are provided by means of which the system will provide an indication showing the direction of the intrusion within the field of operation of the system.
- a major drawback of prior art intrusion warning alarm systems is their tendency to give false alarm signals due to fluctations in the surrounding background electric field.
- An interference source having a frequency within the frequency band of the detector of the systems may also cause false alarm signals or possibly even decrease the sensitivity of the systems to such an extent that intrusions are neglected.

- the wires extend approximately in an horisontal direction and the sense wire 15 is arranged just below the window of the door.
- the distance between said wires and grounded conducting elements of the car exceeds in all cases 1 cm.
- the cross section of the wires are kept as low as possible.
- the transmitting means 10 and the receiving and filtering means 16, respectively, are mounted as close to the wires as possible and preferably on the wires.
- the transmitting means 10 comprises three blocks VCO (voltage control oscillator) 13, an amplifier 12, and a transformer 10.
- the oscillating frequency of the VCO is controlled by the control unit 26.
- the receiving and filtering means 16 comprises an impedance converter 17 and a band pass filter 17.
- the center frequency of said band pass filter is adjusted by the control unit 26.
- the detector means 19 comprises an amplifier 20, a band pass filter 21, an AM demodulator preferably comprising a PLL (phase locked loop), a first low pass filter 23, the time constant thereof being approximately 0,1 s, a second low pass filter, the time constant thereof being approximately 20 s, and a comparator 25.
- the center frequency of the filter 21 and the free-running-frequency of the PLL 22 are also adjusted by the control unit 26.
- the control unit 26 is operatively connected to the VCO 14 of the transmitting means 10, to the filter 18 of the receiving and filtering means 16, to the filter 21 and to the AM demodulator 22 of the detector means 19.
- the operation of the system is as follows
- control unit 26 activates the VCO 14 and adjusts the oscillating frequency thereof to a predetermined value.
- the output signal from the VCO 14 is then fed to the amplifier 13 and from the amplifier to the transformer 12.
- the voltage is increased substantially in the transformer.
- the output voltage from the transformer 12 is preferably at least 2 kV peak to peak.
- the operational frequency of the VCO 14 is from 1 to 20 kHz, preferably 10 kHz.
- a second field wire 27 is also provided.
- the sensitivity of the system is also increased by utilizing a second sense wire 28.
- the maximum output current from the transmitting means 10 is lower than 0,5 mA.
- the input impedance of the impedance converter 17 is approximately 1000 GOhm.
- a signal received by the sense wire 15 or sense wires 15 and 28 is fed to the filter 18 through the impedance converter 17.
- the filter is of the band pass type and the center frequency thereof is adjustable and controlled by the control unit 26.
- the received and filtered signal is then input to the amplifier 20. Then the signal is fed to a second band pass filter 21, the band width thereof being more narrow than the band width of the first band pass filter 18. The signal is then demodulated in the AM demodulator 22. Thus, the output signal of the demodulator 22 has a linear relationship to the amplitude of the output signal from the filter 21.
- the signal is then fed to a comparator 25 through the two low pass filters coupled in parallel.
- the time constant of the first low pass filter 23 is 0,1 s and the time constant of the second low pass filter 24 is 20 s.
- the output signals of this low pass filters are compared in the comparator 25, and when the comparator detects a difference in signal amplitude a warning signal is sent to the control unit 26 in turn producing alarm signals to the horn (AL1) of the car and to the head lights (AL2) in response to said warning signal.
- Very slow and very fast varations in signal amplitude from the demodulator 22 result in equal signals from the two low pass filters 23 and 24.
- the signal resulting from objects, such as a human body or even an arm, intruding in the monitored area i.e.
- FIG. 4 shows the preferred embodiment when two field wires 11 and 27 are utilized. By feeding the field wires in opposition a higher field intensity, i.e. a higher radiant, is achieved in the area between the field wires than if the field wires are feeded in phase. In this way it is possible to increase the sensitivity of the alarm system in certain parts of the monitored volume.
- the secondary winding of the transformer 12 is provided with a center tapping which is grounded. In some cases the efficiency of the system is increased by off-setting the tapping from the center position.
- the control unit can be programmed to run through different frequency set-ups, thereby increasing the safety and efficiency of the system and to a very high extent making it diffucult to disturb the signal by applying a high electrostatic field to the system.

Abstract
Un système d'alarme avertisseur d'intrusion, servant à détecter et à indiquer la présence d'un objet intrus dans une zone déterminée, comprend un organe d'oscillation et de transmission (10), au moins un fil inducteur (11) disposé dans cette zone et destiné à produire un champ électrique quasi-stationnaire dans cette zone déterminée, au moins un fil de lecture (15), un organe de filtrage (16) connecté de façon fonctionnelle au fil de lecture (15) et un organe détecteur (19) connecté de façon fonctionnelle à l'organe de filtrage (16) et destiné à produire un signal avertisseur lorsque la présence d'un objet intrus est détectée par l'organe de filtrage (16). Une unité de commande (26) est connectée de façon fonctionnelle à l'organe de transmission (10), à l'organe de filtrage (16) et à l'organe détecteur, de façon à régler les caractéristiques desdits organes selon la fréquence émise. L'organe détecteur (19) est connecté de façon fonctionnelle à l'unité de commande (26), de façon à permettre la transmission du signal avertisseur lorsque la présence d'un objet intrus est détectée.
