Abstract

An arrangement (15) which can be attached to a shroud (9) or other elongated traction element, and which can be fitted on the said traction element (9) to prevent, amongst other things, sails and the like from being torn by contact with a part of a boat such as a shroud spreader (8), etc., for example. The invention enables an arrangement (15) which has a thicker section to be attached to a shroud (9), etc. which is already set up in position, and has the effect thereby of amongst other things preventing a sail from being torn by contact with a part of a boat. Pairs of disc-shaped attachment elements (1, 11) are provided, each having a cut-out (2) adapted to be fitted on the traction element (9) transversely thereto, and the respective attachment elements (1, 11) having connecting devices (3, 6, 7) by means of which the said two attachment elements (1, 11) can be joined together encircling the traction element (9).

Description

An Arrangement which can be attached to a Shroud or other elongated Traction Element
The present invention relates to an arrangement which can be attached to a shroud or other elongated traction element, which can be fitted on the said traction element to prevent, amongst other things, sails and the like from being torn by contact with a part on a boat such as a shroud spreader, etc., for example.
The main object of the present invention is primarily to provide an arrangement of the above-mentioned kind which can be attached to the traction element when the latter has been set up in position and there is no free end on which to thread an arrangement which it is desired to attach to it.
The said object is accomplished by means of an arrangement according to the present invention which is essentially characterised in that there are pairs of discshaped attachment elements each having a cut-out adapted to be fitted on the traction element transversely thereto, and that the respective attachment elements have connecting devices by means of which the said two attachment elements can be joined together encircling the traction element.
The invention is described below by way of a preferred embodiment example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, on which Figure 1 shows an arrangement which is attached to a traction element in the form of a shroud,
Figure 2 shows one of a pair of attachment elements which can be joined together to form an arrangement, viewed obliquely from above, and Figure 3 shows the other attachment element appertaining to a pair of attachment elements, looking onto its lower face. Two attachment elements 1 and 1 respectively, which are preferably identical and expediently circular, each have a cut-out 2, which is preferably in the shape of a slit, preferably extending from the circumferential edge 1A of the respective elements 1, 11 to the central region 1B thereof, preferably through their entire depth. The inner side surfaces 2A and 2B respectively of the cutouts are expediently planar and expediently have a semicircular shape 2C at their transition in the central region 1B of the elements 1, 11. The said semicircular shaping of the cut-out end 2C is expediently the same as that of the end 3A on a thicker part 3 which projects from the flat lower face 1C of the respective elements. The said respective thicker part 3 is expediently strip-shaped and is adapted to fit into the relevant cut-out 2 in a complementary attachment element 1, 11 appertaining to the pair of elements, and extends along an imaginary line 4 running along the longitudinal extent of the cut-out. The side surfaces 3B and 3C respectively of the said thicker part 3 have a shape which is adapted to the side surfaces
2A, 2B of the cut-out 2, and is preferably planar.
In the embodiment shown on the drawing the respective attachment elements 1, 11 have a raised part 5A and 5B respectively which enables the depth at the end 20 of the cut-out and the end 3A of the thicker part respectively to be increased.
On the lower face 10 of the respective elements a suitable number of connecting devices 6 and 7 are provided, preferably in pairs, in the form of projecting pins 6 and holes 7 for receiving the connecting devices. The pins 6 which are provided onan attachment element 1 are designed to be received in the holes 7 in a complementary attachment element 1 appertaining to the pair. The elements 1, 1 1 described above function as follows: a shroud 9 or some other elongated traction element, connected via a shroud spreader 8 or some other appropriate connection device, is to receive in its transverse direction an attachment element 1 which is threaded onto the shroud 9 in the direction of the arrow 10. A complementary attachment element 11 appertaining to a pair of elements 1, 11 is threaded onto the shroud transversely thereto, in the direction of the arrow 11. When the shroud 9 is located at the inner ends of the respective cut-outs 2, the two elements are pressed together towards each other in the direction of the arrows 12 and 13 respectively, so that the respective thicker parts 3 are received in the respective cut-outs 2 and the pins 6 are introduced into the holes 7. The shroud 9 is thereby accommodated effectively and securely in the preferably circular hole 14 which is formed at the centre of the raised part 5 between the respective opposing ends 2C and
3A of the cut-out 2 and the thicker part 3, and the arrangement 15 formed by the two connected elements 1, 11 may be positioned, for example, on the upper face of a shroud spreader 8 to prevent a sail from being torn by contact with the shroud 9 and/or the shroud spreader 8. The arrangement may also be used in other spheres than on a boat, wherein an elongated traction element is provided.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment example of an arrangement which can be attached to an elongated traction element which is described above and shown on the drawing, but can be used on other types of traction element where it is desired to provide some kind of thicker part on the traction element without having to release the latter. Amongst other things, lines which it is desired to hold at a certain specific distance from each other, and markings which it is desired to establish on lines, etc. can be cited as examples of other applications.
