Be it known that l. 'FRANK I. MILLER,
a citizen of the United States, and a.. resident of Meadville, in the county of Craw- I ford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reamers, of which the following is a slpecification.

In reamers now in luse the blades are formed with a land or guide portion, the edges of which are parallel and the forward end ofthe land abruptly terminates at the ll flat inclined lead or cutting portion of the reamer. It has been found as the result of extensive use that such a. blade dulls quickl'y and does not provide a. smooth hole.
Therefore, an important object of this in- U vention isA to provil a reamer blade in which thelead is rounded and into which the lead merges whereby the cutting edge is maintained for a long riod and whe-reby a smooth hole is provi ed.
Further, the improved reamer blade is formed with a land which adually tars toward its forward enfr and merges into the lead approximately where the radius of the same beginsT thereby providing an additional cutting edge.
A further object is to provide a reamer having blades of the character specified which ma be' economically manufactured or groun and which may be employed without radically departing from established shop practice. '1

In carrying out the invention the grinding of the blade to produce the clearance lelgproduccs what is known in the art as the land the edges of which are ordinarily parallel. However, Figures 4, 5, and 6 illustrate that the land is, in thiscase, gradland merges into the radius of` the rounded lead begins whereby to produce an additional cutting edge 16 which co-operates with the cutting edge 13 of the roundedv lead to provide a,

In summarizing it might beI stated that this invention consists particularly in producing the rounded lead in combination' with the tapered land so as'to` provide the additional cutting edge 16' and to provide a. reamer blade which maintains its cutting edge for a.. large number'xof reamingoperf ations.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 further illustrate that thc clearance 14 gradually decreases in Width toward the rear has integral blades.
