EDWARD o. MOORE, OF YONKERs, NEW YORK, AssieNOn TO TIFFANY d: COMPANY.
Design No. 3,917 dated Illarch 22, 1870.
DESIGN FOR HANDLES OF SPOONS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. MOORE, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented or produced a Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, 85o., and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof'.
In the accompanying photograph- Figure 1 is a View of the upper side of' the handle, and
Figure .2 shows the reverse side.
The handle is ornameuted with rounding heads and grooves along the smaller or shank-portion, at a, and on one side of the handle, at its junction with the fork or spoon-bowl, is a spreading leaflet ornament, b.
The end ofthe handle is of an arch-shaped outline, with narrow beads, as shown at c, and the beads run into and around the semicircular projections at d d, and from these the outline'of the handle tapers to the leaflet ornaments e, at the junction with the shank a of `the handle.
The ground-work of the design, at the bottom of the recessed portion, is shown as corded or ribbed, but 1 do not limit this design to that character Of ground- Work.
On one side the broad portion of' the handle is Ornamented with the shell figure, at f, in addition to the heads and leaflets fi, as shown in fig. 1, and on the other side leaflets and stems are formed in raised Work, as at o, leaving a blank or name space, as seen in fig. 2.
[ claim as my invention- The design of the shape, configuration, and ornament of the handle, substantially as described and represented.
Dated this 24th day Of` February, A. D. 1870.
E. U. MOORE.
