ITAESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUSTACE CREES AND CHARLES S. COURT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE WATSON AND NEVVELL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 36,230, dated February 17, 1903.
Application filed December 26, 1902. Serial No. 136,75 7. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EUSTACE CREES and CHARLES S. COURT, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Providence, in
' 5 the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of a Spoon or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being IO had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The figure is a view of the obverse side of a spoon-handle, showing our new design.
The leading characteristic of our design [5 consists in the artistic decoration of the handle by an ornamental arrangement in relief of orange blossoms and buds interspersed with foliage.
In the drawing, A is the head, and B the 20 shank, of the handle. The shank B is ornamented with the stem 4, which winds upward from the base of the handle, branching into the leaves 5, 6, and 7, and the bud 8, which lies about midway of the shank. At the base 2 5 of the shank lies the partially-blown flower 3. At the point where the shank widens to form the head A lies the blossom 9, surmounting the stem 10 and overlying the leaf 11. Continuing into the head A the stem 4 radiates into the buds 12 12 and the leaves 13 13, the leaves disappearing beneath the large fullblown blossom 14, which ornaments the upper portion of the head. One of the petals of the blossom 14 forms the pointed apex of the handle.
It is evident that our design is applicable to the handles of articles other than, but similar to, spoons.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon or similar article substantially as here in shown and described.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
' EUSTACE CREES.
CHARLES S. COURT.
